I have been prescribed benzos for 6 years now, and just now found that niacinamide was the basic structure used to create valium. I was wondering if anyone else has had experience with it? it is a Vitamin B3 and if you look closely at the bottle, it will say that the Niacin came from niacinamide. I am trying to get off as many medications (psych) as I can, I am currently on 4mg xanax a day, but from what i hear about the niacinamide, its better than kava and valerian. If anyone has any experience with Niacinamide please let me know.

I don't know where you heard this, niacinamide and Valium are two seperate substances and niacinamide is not used in the synthesis of diazepam.

Niacin (nicotinic acid) and niacinamide (nicotinic acid amide) are simply forms of vitamin B3. They are required for good health and proper bodily function.

I just heard that the first basic structure of valium was based off the structure of niacinamide. probably wrong though. but oh well. if it can help with anxiety thats all i relle need it to do

Maybe you heard of picamilon? It's gaba binded with niacin. It's hydrolyzed into gaba and niacin in the brain. It can lower benzo requirement from what I've on other forums. The gaba would bind to the receptor and the benzo would potentiate the response to the receptor being activated. If you're trying to lower your xanax dose, picamilon would probably help matters.

No you are correct my friend, the person above is wrong. Here is a citation: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/155222

Structurally niacinamide also known as nicotinamide is related to benzodiazepines based on its affinity for gaba receptors. Check out mind and muscle forums for more info I have a thread there that is more for the advanced user.

Dosing is personal but i would go with the standard dosing on the bottle, mega doses are not required but are safe if you want to try as it does not cause flushing like niacin.

It is also mentioned on benzo.org/uk as useful on WD symptoms, i highly recommend that site.

^that's pretty interesting. I just gave a cursory glance at it's wikipedia page and it seems pretty impressive. From activating sirtuins to preventing immunosuppression from uva and uvb radiation. Makes me think I should start taking a closer look at all vitamins.

The actions of nicotinamide and inosine were investigated on rat cerebellar Purkinje cells using ionophoretic and extracellular recording techniques. Ionophoretic application of nicotinamide or inosine showed that they were potent inhibitors of Purkinje cell firing. This inhibition differed from that induced by benzodiazepines in that it was not reversed by the GABA antagonists bicuculline methiodide and picrotoxin. RO 15-1788, the specific benzodiazepine antagonist, did not reverse the effects of nicotinamide. Chlordiazepoxide has been shown to increase significantly social interaction between pairs of male rats and this increase can be reversed by RO 15-1788, 20 mg kg-1 i.p. Nicotinamide also caused a small increase in social interaction but this effect was not reversed by the benzodiazepine antagonist. Inosine did not increase social interaction. [3H]-flunitrazepam binding studies showed that nicotinamide and inosine have only low affinities for the benzodiazepine binding site. These results suggest that while nicotinamide may exert some neuronal depressant and anxiolytic activity, its site of action appears not to be associated with the benzodiazepine receptor site. Similarly, inosine exerts a neuronal depressant effect dissimilar from that of benzodiazepines.

Niacinamide may have a small affinity for GABA-BZD subunits but it wasn't the parent compound nor the namesake of Valium - those were chlordiazepoxide and valrian respectively.

Ohh there is a lot more info to fiind out about this, im really excited. I just purchased some niacinamide yesterday, i dont have super epectations or anything and i know how vitamins work, but we will see if it can at least help me lower my dose of xanax in a few weeks. Very good site and info and page I actually have not been there yet ^^^

OP, give phenibut a shot.
I take 2.5 grams and with a mild benzodiazepine tolerance its very sedating for me. Feels like about 3mg of xanax at once.
For tolerance comparison for anxiety i take 2mg of ativan twice a day

You really should take a closer look at different vitamins, amino acids, herbs, etc. Just be super careful with herbal supplements that have Monoamine Oxidase inhibitors in them )esp. non-reversable MAOI's. Moving on; in NO WAY am I a health nut, but since Ive started takng a closer looking herbal things and vitamins. And of course, spoke with my doctor I have definitely noticed a change in me that will be discussed after this funny little warning about why you need to look very very closely at natural remedies.

This is kind of of topic but I feel this info is relevant to the topic of looking more in to vitamins , I found an "all natural" ADHD med called "Synaptol" that came up as a pop up ad while i was researching vitamins. You can check it out if you wanna see all the info i just though it was post worthy because the first three random ingredients I looked up in it were 1: Avena Sativa which is 'natural' viagra (you may have heard of Avena Sativa on the news because a lot of it was found in Osama Bin Laden's compound... but moving on; the next one I looked up was:Adrenalinum, which is diluted real epinephrine and I stopped after I read about this next ingredient:"Aconitum ferox [which] is considered the most poisonous plant in the world."

All this just goes to show, that you've really got to do you research before going choosing any sort of vitamin regimen, natural supplements, herbs, etc because you really want to know what you are actually taking seeing as how a lot of these are not regulated nor standardized.

That aside, I would HIGHLY recommend checking out vitamins, ever since i started a regimen of a vitamin complex (not one of those alleged SUPER MEGA crap things, but you just gotta see how much of what you need its got it it, then but supplements that your body is lacking from your diet. For example, i needed fatty acid, MSM, and some other things. I started the regimen about a month ago and now I'm off 100mg Trazadone a night (cold turkey no less), and we all know thats a no no with antidepressants but now I only need a little benadryl or Doxyalimine to fall asleep IF I even need anything anymore. Also I'm down to 4 scripts from 8, i don't need as many medications anymore, and i have less days that I'm super depressed since about 3 weeks after starting with this. And my recent research on Niacinamide just made me wanna buy the supplement vitamin because (1: my multivitamin only has 25mg of niacinamide in it and 2: some sites say that for anxiety one should take 200-400mg 3 times a day)
