hi im a 15 yo. male 155 lbs and i recently have been starting doing diphenhydramine. nearly every day(4-6 times a week for 2 weeks). but i am never "under the influence" of more than 350mg at a time and never take more than 450 mg a day. is this potentially dangerous for my health?-er that was a stupid way to ask the question, i guess im trying to ask 1 day is my liver/kidney just going to fail on me out of nowhere when i take them? or is there a better drug to take that gives me the same numbing/mild hallucinating/delirium state? ive tried DXM recently too and i like that A LOT more than DPH. Idk any inputs? any advise would be greatly appreciated thx=D

If you like DXM more, why bother with a drug like diphenhydramine? I love diphenhydramine as an antihistamine or a hypnotic (sleep aid, not recreational hypnosis)... Anyway, it's not great for the cardiovascular system in high doses, it changes heart rhythm and can lead to heart attack.

Diphenhydramine in high doses causes strain on the heart as the heart rate increases, causes delirium (scary hallucinations - visual, auditory, and tactile), increase in body temperature, increased urination, dehydration, and in very high doses it can cause renal failure.

Do not use diphenhydramine in doses more than 100 mg at once and don't use it for anything other than for allergies or for sleep. It is not a recreational drug.

I've used diph and dimen, as well as other antihistamines for a long period of time, and eventually developed heart palpitations and other shit that I don't remember now...it was years ago. It drains your body of alot of shit to use them frequently.

alright thanks everyone for the help, i just got another bottle of sleep aid but i guess this'll b my last one. ill probably regret my "experiments" later on in life if i keep it up thx everyone! and whoever else comes back to this thread, does DXM hurt the body as much as DIPH? i doubt anyone checking this out is a doctor, but just curious

DXM is used frequently in high doses can be neurotoxic and can cause onleys lesions, psychosis, stomach problems and varying other problems. I'm not saying DXM will do this. But if you use high high doses everyday for a long time you will eventually run into these.

olneys lesions haven't been PROVEN...just a myth really. I used to use dxm heavily, still use it now and then. I used it for a month straight one time and in the end I quit cause shit started to seem all fake and I got a little delusional, which is understandable after a month of binging. I had brain zaps and depression upon withdrawal....some people get withdrawal after a long period of heavy use. Most people don't get addicted to dxm though...I"m one of the weird ones. I also liked how antihistamines made me feel, but they're far more toxic to the body. Antihistamines fucked with my memory for days after a heavy period of use, cause I used to use them heavily too. There are better drugs out there man. Dxm is far less toxic if you use DXM ONLY, none of that CCC shit with CPM in it or other active ingredients. You're young, you'll learn with experience.

DXM is definitely safer than high-dose diphenhydramine, at least... I recommend trying to keep the dose of DXM low as possible, 100 - 400mg or so.

I have been taking 75mg at night for sleep about 2 weeks in a row. Is there anything wrong with that? Like I said, I use it for sleep, not recreation and no more than 75mg. lmk

If you can really keep the dose at 75 mg a night, and ONLY at bedtime, there should be no problem. I also use an anticholinergic/antihistamine (promethazine) to help me sleep (I have digestive problems). It is more powerful than DPH and I have been taking 50-62.5 mg a night for the past 3-4 months. If you can keep the dose constant, you're A-OK.

It is shown that after three days of diphenhydramine for hypnosis, the effect is nearly the same as placebo. I'd try to alternate days, and maybe another hypnotic like doxylamine (a damn good hypnotic at that, OTC).

Thanks for that, now I'll no longer be able to get to sleep with it! :X

What if you increase the dose?

yeah i hate when that happens.

But now that u know. I built a tolerance to Benadryl aka diphenhydramine real quickly. Like 1 week quickly.

Plus i dont think it is good that you are taking that for sleep every night but im not 100% sure.

If you take a lot of diphenhydramine (Benadryl) for a long time it will cause a withdrawal. I don't care what anyone says I've known to many people who have gone through this. Withdrawal can include not being able to sleep, extreme allergies, huge congestion and feeling like shit. It's obviously not the worst withdrawal but it sucks.

I can definitely vouch for this, wasn't even using it that long or over 150mg(usually 50mg, for 2 weeks before bed only skipping a day or 2 randomly)

it's a very frustrating withdrawal, like your mind has tons of shitty background chatter that makes you feel uneasy, sweating/unbearable temperature when trying to sleep, and just all around shitty.. I could imagine that it would get pretty bad if I had used it for longer.
