Too young to smoke weed?

I started at 14, but wish I would've waited as it was my top priority up until 17, when I realized that smoking that much was hindering my ability to perform normal every-day tasks.

An eighth lasts me at least a week and a half these days, and I smoke 2-3 bowls a day.

These days it's just a way to cope with the never-ending cravings of opiates(I 'quit' last May, although I still use on occasion), and I love smoking herb when I roll, which I'm still taking a break from doing anyway.

I know I went on a ramble, but there is a point to that. You don't want to make the herb or any other substance a higher priority than the things that you must do to excel in life, and being at a young age, it's a lot easier to make irresponsible decisions like making getting high their only priority. I'm not preaching, as I was like that myself, and know PLENTY of people who have been/are in the same boat.

I've just come to realize in the past couple of years that even though I love ganja, hallucinogens/entheogens, and opiates/opioids, I still have to be a presentable, upstanding member of "society".

So I just rambled too much...

Much love,

I've smoked with a lot of people, young and old. I think the youngest person I've smoked with was 9 years old (with their parent's permission). It is definately a personal decision. If you feel ready you probably are. It is much safer to try cannabis at a young age than alcohol or tobacco. In general, I don't think that kids under the age of 16 should smoke unless it is under the supervision of family (either parents or an older sibling). I made the decision not to smoke until I was out of high school, and I don't regret it at all. Asking what age drug use should start is kind of like asking what age you should lose your virginity. It is your own decision and no one can really tell you when the right time is.

i would say smoking out kinda stops your brain from maturing
like peter pan in never never land

i started young

but i would say wait till at least 23-25

In the UK, the BBC ran a documentary about the effects of cannabis not long ago. They showed a study comparing the effects of smoking grass on both juvenile and adult rats, and the results are quite compelling.

The documentary can be watched HERE or on the BBC iPlayer if you've got a UK IP.

From a purely developmental point of view, IMO cannabis consumption shouldn't start becoming a big thing until the individual is 18 or older.

i wish i didnt start smoking everyday till i was a senior.my shits all fucked up now but thats just me.

It has actually helped me excel in certain areas as well as for other people i know. I think it comes down to why you're using it. Anything used to avoid reality or responsibility is gonna slow you down. If you use it for anxiety or an eating disorder, e.g., it might really help you.

heh i wouldn't last one day with a normal job then. i'd rather remain a poor self-employed musician. conformity has never been my thang.

OT - any age is fine with bud, as far as i'm concerned. i'm getting to like the idea of making more edibles lately. if you do it just right you can be high all day and still function..and mental addiction seems much less likely. i think the simple ritual of packing a bowl/pipe and smoking up is a huge part of the mental addiction.

What is it with all the hypocritical "I've been smoking since I was young, but it's not good you shouldn't do it." responses here when it comes to threads about the age that people should begin smoking cannabis. If you did it, and you turned out fine, then why shouldn't anyone else do it?

Are you all worthless, filthy scumbags who nobody could ever want to grow up to be like or something? Why so down on yourself and your experiences?

I believe I was misunderstood on that one there...

I use Cannabis for many, many reasons, most of them medicinal, but I don't make it my #1 priority. Also, balancing a "regular job" and being part of the drug culture isn't near as difficult as one might think.

And by the way, I'm not a conformist, I've just learned to adapt enough to the "real world" so that I may be successful in life. It's part of growing up, man.

Also, you are dead on when it comes to ritual. The ritual of packing a bowl/rolling a blunt/joint and blazing is most definitely a huge part of the psychological addiction, as chopping up lines to snort, preparing your rig, etc. The ritual is half the excitement...

i started at 14, and took 2-3 month breaks here and there during from then to now. im 18 now.

id say dont smoke weed until your a senior, you'll be better off all around if you start at that age than 14.

IMO anything above 15 is all good as long as you have your priorities in ch-ch-check check aiiiiight

I don't think there's anything wrong with smoking weed here and there as a teenager, it's fun, it's part of the youthful experimentation and rebellion that goes hand in hand with being a trouble making kid ;)

But I do think it's greatly beneficial to start up a daily habit once you're on your own, don't have to worry about hiding it nearly as much, and have no one to answer to but yourself. At the end of a long day of work, there's nothing better than kicking back and finally relaxing. When you're not high all day and actually look forward to it, it keeps marijuana a little more special, which is part of where the wonder of the whole thing originally came from.

I started very young (9 or 10) but I didn't start using it everyday until I was about 13. By the time I was 15 I was getting very large amounts of hash and oil for free constantly, to where I developed a ridiculously high tolerance and degree of dependence on it. I started to get some pretty rugged respiratory issues, and I was very unmotivated, so I decided to give it up at 22, after trying a few times before. Because of the length of time I was using it for with very little time off, it wasn't easy, but there have been much harder things I've had to do. The worst part was the inability to sleep properly which lasted about a week, and the very large amounts of rebounding energy that I had to deal with.

Honestly, I think it's fine, just as long as you do what I didn't do and take a good long break for a while from time to time to break your attatchment, or else it can be a nuisance if you ever choose to give up, especially if it's always around you.

for me it's about cause and effect. i use weed to regulate anxiety and mood which would run my life without it. i'm bipolar 2 with add, and without some kind of drug i can't function in society on a regular basis. weed is a lot more effective and safer than bipolar meds for me and has really improved my quality of life.

what about drug testing?

what about drug testing?

Who wants to work for an employer that requires drug tests?

If it's just a pre-employment urine screen those are easy enough to beat if you can quit for a week or two when you know you're going to be job hunting and interviewing.

If you have to deal with random spot tests as a condition of employment (and you enjoy cannabis)... maybe you should reconsider your career.

I started when i was a junior in high school, but i dropped out by the middle of my senior year. It's unfortunate what drugs fell into my lap in such a short period of time :(.

so it's not that common?

when i worked as a music instructor (well i'm on leave of absence atm) at a somewhat prestigious university i was never drug tested and i would smoke up and be stoned at work all day. i think as artists/musicians we are able to get away with a lot due to the nature of our work...but maybe it's not an exception. besides artists i really only know people who work at clubs or are self-employed..obviously not tested either.

i assume with white collar jobs random drug testing isn't unusual there...other than that i don't have a clue how other jobs work.

maybe i should make a different topic about this tho. i don't want to de-rail this thread.

Growing up smoking?

"The truth is, marijuana probably isn't going to make you kill people. Most likely isn't going to fund terrorists, but pot makes you feel fine with being bored and it's when you're bored that you should be learning a new skill or some new science or being creative. If you smoke pot you may grow up to find out that you're not good at anything."

Ok, well I know this is from South Park. But it makes me think...could this be true?

I'm currently in High school and I smoke alot (at least 5 days of the week). Just recently I've starting thinking about how this might effect me, and if I need to make changes. I'd really like to hear about the experience of others while growing up and smoking pot. Let me know what you were like in high school, how much you smoked, and where you are/what you are doing now. Thanks!
