I had a job for a week and two days. Then there was a training test and I failed it (although I had little desire to work there anyway) so got fired. Getting direct deposit two Thursdays in a row was awesome, especially since the first larger one was two days after getting fired.

I'm just an unemployed recent graduate with a Master's degree yet apparently no one wants to pay me to do some form of work. I never went the selling route with anything, being a smaller female sorta helped in that decision. I've been living off student loans and generous family for a short while now, I feel so guilty when I spend it on drugs but...you know :|

And seriously, no school nor work = increased drug consumption/variety. Boredom seems to be a very bad thing.

Yep, it becomes pretty hard to keep it from becoming a perpetual cycle too. The job market is at a standstill, it really sucks.

Definitely. Doesn't help that even though I can provide a transcript showing excellent performance in college AND an advanced degree, I still have to submit to a drug test for most jobs. The US has an obsession and I'm hoping that doesn't fuck me over. Hard to avoid them when you literally wake up everyday just to go to bed at night. Need to alter your day somehow, I have no idea how anyone could or would do this nothing to do time totally sober.

That's awesome!...my MA is in General Linguistics, so I'm pretty useless for the most part. But thanks.

I'm not keeping busy at all, the last several months have brought me to my mental breaking point several times, I need to close this chapter of my life in so many ways. *sigh* Sorry, don't wanna turn it into TDS in here, I'm just depressed and jobless and thus poor and thus depressed and thus although poor want to use more drugs than when money is coming in.

Hahaha TDS is pretty hardcore, knawmean?

Well..lol general linguistics ive never heard of that, wtf? Explain.

What kind of jobs can you get with that degree?

How hard are you looking for a job?!

Linguistics is the study of language. Since it's in general linguistics, I sorta have an more indepth than an undergraduate degree view into research and the studies about how we communicate. Personally I enjoy sociolinguistics, which is basically how language functions in society and covers my beloved hobby of regional US accents, historical linguistics mostly because I'm a classicist at heart with extensive knowledge in Latin and some in Attic Greek, and I know some computational linguistics which is the money field but it's certainly NOT my thing, nor am I very good at it.

Beats me at this point. Pretty much a funded PhD program, which is not something I want right now. I'm really sick of school and glad it's done.

How hard are you looking for a job?!

Not at fucking all. Decided I'm going to say goodbye to the last 6 years of my life first, then move back home, and then take it from there. Mental health interferes sometimes ya know.

The Rock Monster, you're getting my stoned ass all introspective tonight on why my education is useless.

Watching now!

@ATLL: bro, payday is tomorrow!

Bummer. Most jobs I've had would have the checks ready by Thursday, so I figured I'd see who was getting that paper today. It's all good though because tomorrow is gonna be a good day for the Chemist, right? lol.

PC, you mentioned that youre interested in regional US accents

Well me fucking too! Ha. I love how the English language is spoken in so many varieties.. when i hear someone with a weird accent it always enertains me. I always think people are fucking stupid when they speak all funny, for example the boston accent, canadian accent, new york nasal accent, british proper talk, new orleans, i could go on and on

I always think these people are silly, cause i talk like dr. House from tv, ya know? Greg house md? I dont sound exactly like him, but my voice is flat like his, and deep and very manly, ha

Tell me your views on this phenomenon, pc

Ah, I'm a bit speechless at that actually since that's the opposite of my regional US accent love. I love how they are all different, Southern English where you'll hear "y'all", Boston English which is r-less for the most part, NYC English which is technically my native accent (NYC <3) but I speak a more "standard" English now (you can't figure out where I'm from as quickly or easily). They aren't "speaking funny"...I see you're from the Southwest, your accents are kinda neutral and flat down there, not as much variety going on. I find that people out there don't have as much love and respect for the regional varieties as someone say, from the northeastern US will. There's no "right" or "wrong" accent, and none are sub par to others, they are all different, and that's part of why the US is so interesting.

And, Hugh Laurie is actually British, and that's why his voice in so flat. In most interviews/any other things he acts in, he uses his British accent. I'm actually surprised at how well he fakes an American accent on the show, although I was suspicious when I realized how flat and feature-less his accent seemed to be.

You misunderstand me..aint like im thinkin people is stupid cause they talk different..its funny!!!! Yo it cracks me up

I see youre puttin the southwest on blast, haha

But its a good source for bullshittin..different accents, different figures of speach..i love talkin shit, especially bustin canadians balls hehe, eh?

Youre right about phoenix at least, people aint talkin with some crazy accent its flat, thats what i think is normal
Ever been to the sw? Or have you seen a tv show based in sw, like breaking bad?

"Im a bit speechless" ha ha you took it the wrong way, im surprised i rendered you speechless

Ya i know hugh laurie is british, he does a good job with the american speech, but i can tell its not authentic..you know, never heard another american talk quite like that, good show tho

Ah I'm not meaning to insult the Southwest, it's just a linguistic fact. And none of the accents are really any "crazier" than the other ones, and I've heard plenty samples of southwestern US speech although i haven't been there. Yes, we claim to believe in linguistic diversity but there are many other Americans who don't, and part of that diversity is accepting other languages especially if you are a monolingual English speaker.
