I can only see Xanax being beneficial in small doses. The fact is that they decrease muscle tone and slow reaction times. The advantage is obviously that your fear is possibly diminished pretty drastically and you can maybe get the "benzo rage", but don't count on that. You really want your real adrenaline response to surface, which will be very strong if you are actually needing to defend yourself. If you're attacking someone else, you won't get this same response and the mental game will be tilted against you if your "victim" doesn't act like a victim.
While I'm talking about it, a serious adrenaline rush like you get if you are attacked is way more powerful than any drug. The first time I tried methamphetamine, it was a pretty large dose and I was young. The stimulation was so intense that every inch of my body was quivering and I felt absolutely god-like. This is pretty much exactly the same response I've gotten defending against a serious attack. Being able to channel this energy is key, and way more important than taking any drug. That said, a small dose of a stimulating opiate IMO is potentially helpful; I use them every so often when training and they certainly give me a considerable boost in energy.
