Google Chrome Vs Internet Explorer

Chrome probably is good but my PC is getting so old and useless it can't seem to handle it. Firefox has been my default for quite some time now.

Strange - chrome is much less resource-intensive than firefox.

I use Chrome (with adblock, which sort-of-works). It's way the hell faster than firefox, particularly with flash/java-intensive pages. I've seen a simple flash navigation bar take 50% of CPU (on a dual core machine, ie, a whole core). Under chrome, same page used 10% of CPU time. I can also keep oodles of tabs open without performance degradation (which was not the case with firefox).

I get the idea that IE 9 might end up being a strong contender. It seems like they finally came to their senses and tried to make a credible browser. For once, they made an attempt to comply with standards. They've greatly pared down the interface, making it look more like chrome. It's also claimed to be significantly faster, with hardware acceleration (ex, for video playback). It will have tight integration with the windows interface, which may or may not be desirable.

That about sums up my PC. But after your appraisal I might give it another try. All I know is last time it seemed to take literally about 10 times longer than Firefox to load ANY page last time I had it. Some wouldn't work at all.

Chrome's speed is truly astonishing. Some pages that take 15-20 seconds to finish loading & rendering in IE and FF seem to just pop up complete in the blink of an eye. I have no idea how it does that. Just goes to show its not the downloading but other factors which make every thing else seem snail-like in comparison. Very stable as well. Safari is nearly as fast but quite finicky at least in Windows Vista, and will just freeze up very very often.

Blah. Was happily using Chrome for the past 2 months or so but am getting this bug where when I go to start it up it says "Your preferences cannot be read. Some features may be unavailable and changes to preferences won't be saved."

I've tried a few things to fix it, but none have worked so far.

I'm back to Firefox in the meantime!
