Convincing Friends

I've been trying to convince some of my friends to try psychedelics with me, preferably acid. I've told them about the good trips I've had, and how psychedelics are completely safe, but my friends will not listen. So my question is... are there any movies that are similar to "The Union" but about psychedelics instead? I'm thinking this might be a good way to get reliable info to my friends. Also, please post any other good arguments you can think of to convince someone to try a psychedelic.

IMO you shouldn't try to convince any body to try a psychedelic drug, if they need convincing than I don't think they are going to be ready to take a psychedelic drug. Provide them with reliable and balanced (not just the positive effects) information and let them decide for themselves

Don't be (that guy) like those anti drug commercials lol, if someone doesn't want to try something so be it.

I'm fairly certain the DMT Spirit Molecule movie is supposed to come out soon...There is a Natgeo show called explorer that is surprisingly unbiased

That said, why the emphasis on a movie? If your friends are unwilling to do a tiny bit of reading, via wikipedia, erowid, university libraries, or other resources, then I personally would not want to introduce them to psychedelic drugs, but thats just me and perhaps my fear of being inadvertently responsible for somebody's traumatic experience

Ok thanks. I'll check those out.

Movies are good because they are easy to watch at any time. Not everybody wants to sit down and read an article.

i don't know if convincing people to take psychedelics is a wise thing to do. If people ask me about them I'm more than willing to talk about the subject (at length ;)) and/or send them links to more info than they'll ever care to read, maybe lend out a book or two if i know where they live, but convince, eh, not so much.

Oh, and both MAPS & Horizons have vimeo channels with lots of good stuff. A lot of it is a bit clinical though. The spirit molecule movie just came out i believe, & dirty pictures, about the Shulgins, should be coming out on dvd soon. There are plenty of docs about Albert Hoffman & LSD. Oh, and there's a good history channel series titled Illegal drugs & how they got that way. The one on LSD & MDMA would be a good one as well.

No don't do that. Lace their weed with acid and get them hooked. Then you will make so much money!

You like me, are a pusher. You see a problem. You see an answer. You want to help. You will give it for free. They don't want your help. People who don't want to be helped won't help themselves.

That link was great. I'm glad they have began research on psychedelics again. Thanks a bunch.

My friends and I joke that were going to dose each other, just to "test" each other out. We have the perfect delievery system: 29gauge insulin syringes with 2 hits of LSD and 65mg of DMT in them, shot out of a blowgun, preferably at a high speed into the desired person's neck or shoulder. Sometimes you have to help people help themselves =D

Hey guise, i've been an amphetamine addict for 10 years, how can I convince more people to start smoking shards?

Doesn't seem harm reduction aimed does it?

neither is coercing them to try psychedelics. If they want to, they will do so, if not, its not your place to tell what to put in their body. Its there decision to make.

i think this thread will get closed soon.

i agree to what others said before. if they dont want to, you shouldnt even consider trying to convince them.

i just find some people are more inclined to try things than others (and youd be surprised at who those are....) but usually they will find the info and each other (meaning you) by themselves. attracting attention by advocating use of drugs is never wise.

so be safe. i think, like me at the beginning, that you are having a wonderful time with your newfound experiences and want to share that. i completly understand, but try to temper yourself. you wouldnt want to be the guy always preaching drugs to people. enjoy them, discuss them if they ask, but my advice would be to keep it at that.

Personally, I think this thread is too filled with people who take harm reduction to the extreme.

I get more of a vibe that OP just wants to trip with his friends, I don't think this is a impulse that deserves to get a thread locked, but more towards linking books and movies describing the psychedelic experience. I know I wouldn't be where I am today without reading a fuckton of books that I spent hours and hours looking up, starting with no knowledge other than "Hallucinogens sound fun, where do I go?"

My first was "True Hallucinations: Being an Account of the Author’s Extraordinary Adventures in the Devil’s Paradise" by Terence Mckenna. Next I read Acid Dreams: The Complete Social History of LSD: The CIA, the Sixties, and Beyond by Martin A. Lee.

I personally have a vendetta against rick fucking straussman, after having to hear hour after hour of fucking bullshit from stupid hippies talking about DMT, I really don't have high hopes for his up-coming movie.

they will try it when their ready, no need to get people with no interest to trip and have it a bad one. then they'll hate you and drugs.
ps: trying to 'convince yer friend' to take drugs, doesn't sound to friendly.

Instead of convincing them what I do is present the scenario as, "This is something that I love and has deeply moved me to change my life for the better, you should give it a try. If you ever decide you want to give it a go I'm here and I'm willing to guide you through your first trip or trip with you or whatever."

Just give them the idea. You have to plant the kernel of oh hey thats not the most awful thing in the world and then just let it grow. Eventually, if they want, they will come to you and say, "Ok, let's go."

Not everyone will want too and if you force them through really aggressive tactics it won't be as fun for them as if they had come to the idea over time and after thinking about it.

If they are at least somewhat interested, but afraid of 'tripping out', you could suggest a low dose trip. Just half a tab or so, plus have some benzos on hand in case even the half tab is too much. This may help alleviate their fear and let them get experienced enough to increase the dose next time.

Part of what creates the psychedelic community is that by and large, psychedelic users are people who have come to be interested in them on their own and who are the type to seek out information. I think it's really almost like a "pre-qualification"... if you haven't thought about it or you haven't had the idea to search out information yourself if you are interested, then you probably aren't ready to experience them, or perhaps you never will be.

Unfortunately, a lot of people, mostly kids, end up trying them because of peer pressure, whether that pressure was implied intentionally or not. And then they end up in a situation that they're not prepared for or comfortable with, nor did they ask for it, really. And hence the idea of bad trips and freakouts being common is propagated. Among those who seek, they are much less common.

It sounds like psychedelics are your thing, which is great. :) But if you have to convince your friends to try them, then they're not their thing. And that's fine too. :)
