Any "successful" long-term MDMA users?

I'd like to know if there is anybody here who has used E regularly for a decent amount of time, a couple of years or more, without significant problems? I would define this as:

-Ability to still have a meaningful/enjoyable experience
-No major tolerance issues
-No psychological issues (depression, anxiety, etc)
-No dependence


The majority of people seem to describe the same pattern of overdoing it and losing the magic, and all other sorts of nasties. This is what I did in the past, and which I want to avoid doing again. So it would be interesting to hear from people who are able to manage to continue using MDMA in a relatively harmless way, to know that this is actually something people are able to do.

And if this is you...how do you make it work?
 
I've used E a long time. I had all of those issues you named and no longer do. With piracetam, I can once again have a meaningful MDMA experience and I'm able to restrain my use to on occasion.

I can also attest for knowing a number of people here that never abused MDMA and managed to be responsible from the get go for an extended period of time with no issues.

I avoid people that would tempt me to roll and situations that would tempt me to roll before I should. A lot of it is also self-control. When I abused it I was much younger and never thought about the consequences of what I was doing.

If you abused it before and you know what the cycle of abuse looks like, you have a better idea of how to prevent it in the future. i wouldn't worry too much about it.

One thing I'd like to add is that these forums (like all support/harm reduction forums) are biased toward people who have problems with MDMA. You're seeing only a minority of MDMA users who have the motivation and the agency to ask for help.

Personally, I consider myself a "successful" user. 8) Every time I've dropped has definitely an enjoyable experience, and I don't feel like I've ever abused it or developed a dependency. I think the key is to realize that you don't need MDMA to have a good time -- it should never be your "go-to" drug. Also, it shouldn't be the main attraction; it's the kind of drug that's better suited to make an already great experience even better. If you approach it like that, I feel like you won't get into the trap of feeling like you have to roll.

Just my two cents, but yeah, I know plenty of people with careers, etc. that use MDMA on occasion to no apparent ill effect.

For over 20 years? Wow! Hopefully I'll still be using MDMA (in a responsible manner) in 20 years.

I've been pretty responsible with my MDMA use. However, I've only been using since May 2008 (I had my first pill in April 2004 - but that was different). I am still very much able to enjoy MDMA if the dose is right (around 120mg), although I haven't had truly awesome experience in almost a year, but that's more to with 'lame settings', ultra weak pills and inability to meet people who enjoy rolling.

I have majorly fucked up with other substances which has led to severe depression and has led me to perform significantly below my potential in terms of academics/career opportunities, so I don't if my responsible use of MDMA says anything about my character.
 
I started taking ecstasy in 2003 but had a break from it for a couple of years. My short term memory is bad, I can be having a conversation with someone and forget what I'm talking about! Bit of anxiety and mild depression but it's had such a positive effect on me overall though but I try not to take it too often.

^^The truth.

I've been using MDMA since 2001, with little to no ill effects. Even before I took a four year break (joined the military), I always had a great experience, and no loss of magic.

As RGB said above, I think the key is not thinking you have to roll every time you go out, or thinking you won't have a good time if you're not rolling. I try to save it for really special occasions, that way it never loses what's so special about it.
 
I've done a lot the past few years. There's been a few months off here and there but not that much, probably average 4-6 uses per month (if you count them all) for 3 years now.

There are some keys. As mentioned piracetam helps enormously. It seems to keep tolerance (somewhat) low and fights the memory issues, which I had begun to have in my beginning days when I was using much less frequently. Buy this stuff and take a few grams every day for a while, see what you notice. I initially took it every day for like 6 months when I started and since cut back to 3-5 days/week, but I take a lot of other stuff too so it's all just a big cycle.

I abused DXM way back in 2001-2002 and it was more taxing than what MDMA does, at least with the more healthy lifestyle I have now.

I also exercise regularly, high intensity, 5 times a week or 6 if I can handle it. Usually after a roll I will take 1 or 2 days off, but no more than that ever.

Healthy eating in general. Handfuls of fish oil and omega oils, antioxidant-loaded superfood, whey protein is the primary component of my diet (usually 2-3 shakes every day, I eat very few of what people consider "meals" - or like I used to when I was younger).

Other drugs in addition to piracetam -- vinpocetine (increases brain blood flow, another great one for post days), aniracetam, growth hormone releasing hormone (good for the night of as it will get you great sleep).

I make sure to try and not neglect my body/mind with the supplements during a roll as well. So I will usually always have a protein shake + superfood (see t-nation.com store) + surge workout fuel (another one of their items, loaded with ions and quality glucose) + fish oil + reefer. Well the reefer is mostly just for fun. ;-P

I don't do go out and drink and get all crazy. Most my experiences are at home outside a big music event. Combining booze with molly is just a terrible idea in my opinion.

Another thing is to try and minimize concomitant use of other serotonergics like shrooms or LSD. I notice when I put them together my back and neck get very stressed (in part due to the soreness I am always experiencing due to the extreme workouts) so I try to not be tempted into combining them very often.

Ah what else. Well if it makes you feel better I typed this all in about 4-5 minutes, and yes, last night was a "normal" Saturday night. ;)
 
Oh one other thing, with MDMA (or most any powerful psychedelic for that matter) you have to remember that you are putting a very large amount of UNNATURAL stress on your body, particularly the nervous system. Your brain doesn't just cue massive neurotransmitter release for fun. So looking for or expecting a "perfect" MDMA experience is something you really shouldn't try to do.

Instead look to fight the negative aspects as much as you can, the first step is identifying them - the second is doing something about it, and you too can successfully roll your brains out without doing too much damage.
 
Great to hear that some of you have been able to continue to experience the magic and minimize potential harm. RGB, your point makes a lot of sense, I didn't think that the sample of people who come on bluelight may not represent the entire MDMA-using population.

I also make sure to eat well and exercise, this has made a huge difference in how I feel. Even if I'm not doing any drugs, if I'm not taking care of my body I feel like shit. I really believe that a lot of the problems people have due to drug use come from the lifestyle and physical neglect. It sounds so basic but food/exercise/sleep are invaluable.

I think what I'm trying to do is develop a balanced view. At first when I started using drugs in my teens I thought they were the answer to everything, which turned into abuse. Then I stopped everything and thought drugs were the devil. Now I'm trying to learn that there are different types of relationships that one is able to have with substances, and that it is possible to reduce the majority of the problems associated with use.
