LBJ big decision in more ways than 1

btw, this is all karma for OSU stealing a national championship from UM a few years back.

THIS. This is indeed karma for the worst call in college football history. Thinking of it this way, Ohio fucking deserves this shit.

It really doesn't seem like he gave you guys the middle finger. No matter how he left Cleveland, despite what you say, people would get that impression anyway. You were lucky to have a star born in your state and then drafted by your team. How many franchises have even been that lucky?

You don't think that?

It started way back and came to a climax last night. He hung with the Cowboys' inner circle at a Browns/Cowboys game, proudly wore his Yankees hat at a Yankees/Indians game, again in an interview over whether or not he was gonna stay in Cleveland upon his free agency, he gave up on his team in the playoffs CLEARLY dogging it, he ripped his jersey off as soon as he left the court in his final game as a Cav almost as if to rid himself of that filth he donned for 7 years, he refused to talk to the Cavs franchise about his decision, but said "Cleveland has the edge" giving us a slight inclination that he'd stay, he requested an hour special on ESPN to announce his decision, while still having never actually talked to anyone in Cleveland outside of the meeting to woo him... then in front of the whole world proclaimed his departure from the city that bent over backwards for him. That's not a middle finger? It's pretty blatant to me.

Some of that was less significant, some of it more suggestive, but it all eludes to one thing... Lebron may have been born and raised in Ohio, but he's no Ohioan, and he certainly doesn't give two shits about Cleveland... something that would have been nice to know earlier so that we could have shopped around instead of wasting our efforts on a lost cause.

I guess so. Because the two things have SO much in common and are SO comparable. 8)

That's how karma works. It's mysterious and often doesn't make sense, but it all works out in the end.

As far as you next post, how could you blame a guy for wanting to leave Cleveland for Miami? People don't always want to die where they were born. People don't always feel like they connect to their home city. The Idea that an individual should feel loyal to a place just because it is his hometown is arbitrary and ridiculous. Yeah yeah, he didn't give Cleveland their phone call, but do we really know the history of things that have gone on behind the scenes between James and Gilbert? His overreaction letter seems to point to the guy sort of being a dick. Maybe James had good reason for wanting to give the guy the finger?

Besides, Cleveland would never have given LeBron the welcoming party that South Florida just gave him (I understandingly doubt you would have watched it). But it was a pretty big thing with lots of these SoFla fans (who supposedly don't care about basketball) showing up letting James know that he definitively made the right decision. I like the name they are trying to give the three, the "Three Kings".

I just hope that come the football season the Canes beat Ohio State and South Florida proceeds to completely crush the state of Ohio.

i can't help thinking that no matter the manner of his leaving, some fans will hate on him for that alone - leaving. that is lame.

i just saw this on yahooo sports:

LeBron James will wear No. 6 in Miami, Bosh gets No. 1

As we all know, LeBron James filed papers to change his number from 23 to 6 back when he was still in Cleveland. But now that he's switched teams, that's irrelevant. However, judging by what the NBA's online store is offering, James will be wearing 6 when he joins the Heat this fall.

James' number choice has been confirmed by the South Florida Sun Sentinel's Ira Winderman. The number used to belong to Mario Chalmers, but as Winderman reports, he wanted to switch to 15 which he wore at Kansas anyways, so everything is coming up LeBron, as usual. Personally, I can't believe Miami never retired the number for Eddie Jones and his well-manicured mustache. Nonetheless, James wearing 6 avoids the awkward scenario of him trying to wear 23 in Miami, which has been retired for Michael Jordan because he is so awesome at basketball.
the emphasis at the end is mine - doesn't that read like it was written by a 12 year old?

:)

There are parallels a Miamian would notice, the most glaring of which is that in 2003 Miami was the poorest big city in the US (a distinction that Cleveland and Detroit are currently vying for). The U had commanded the devotion of the entire city for 2 decades and as such, the debacle that was the 2003 Fiesta Bowl was the end of an era. The Marlins won the World Series 10 months later, but this is a football city.

Now a lot of bandwagonnery is afoot in these parts. I think everyone has missed the point: Miami is very very very good at making mountains of money vanish without a trace. The region is an enormous laundering apparatus. There are Himalayan magnitudes of dark capital flowing underneath us. All the talk of opening up cap space and etc. is risible. They say Lebron left $30 million on the table in order to come play with Wade. What about the duffel bags with 30 times that amount that were beneath that table?

we'll give him a pretty cool "welcome back LeBron" party when the heat roll into town for the first time next season. granted, it very well might be the only worthwhile Cavs game to attend next season but boy will it ever by worthwhile!

i will quickly mention that i have no problem with him leaving to play for the heat. who can blame a guy for wanting to play ball with his buddies in a fun city.
it's just the way he did it... utterly disgraceful.

"Lebron is the best player in basketball, but he may not be the best player on the Heat roster." Local sportscaster.

"Local Sportscaster" isn't very good at logic.

Back on point, LeBron is not even a fucked-up self-absorbed megalomaniacal 25 year old man lacking balls.

He's worse.

He's a fucked-up self-absorbed megalomaniacal 25 year old BOY lacking balls.

I wouldn't trade lives with him for all the money and rings in the world.

And if you have any respect for yourself, neither would you.

(1) I would start rooting for the Lakers and Kobe above even my beloved Knicks until LeBron left, or until Kobe retired, whichever came first.

After THAT - I'd be in a sticky situation.

And, admittedly, THAT overall decision would be made simply out of my love for Kobe and my distaste for LeBron (even BEFORE LeBron pulled his most recent charade).

With that said . . .

(2) If LeBron would have gone to New York or Chicago or New Jersey or The Clippers, or if he would have stayed in Cleveland, I would AT LEAST have respect for him as a human being, despite my continued strong opinion that he's the most overrated superstar athlete of my lifetime.

BUT - that aside - AT LEAST he would be doing what the Basketball Gods would have wanted - for the "Next Coming" (LeBron) to try to BEAT the incumbent best players' teams (Kobe's and Wade's) and EARN a ring as his team's (ANY team's) main man.

He was blessed with the ability to be great, he then took the reigns and decided to be the biggest self-promoter I've seen in my lifetime, and THEN, decided to run away from the responsibility to LEAD.

Can't be GREAT without LEADING, in my opinion (and probably in the opinion of Aristotle, or of some other greater mind than mine, centuries ago).

And on top of THAT (which he certainly had the RIGHT to do, but, in my opinion, shouldn't have done), he cock-teased every other team in the running, KNOWING full well the entire time that he was going to play with his buddies instead of embracing a challenge, and THEN ripped out the hearts of his loyal Cavs fans on international television for an hour in an unprecedented move of megalomaniacal proportions.

I never hated him - I merely thought he was an immature overrated baby who couldn't hold Kobe's jock on the basketball court.

Now the whole world knows that not only is THAT true, but he's a piece of shit human being, as well.

I would say that this is "just my opinion" . . . but I'm pretty sure it's *NOT* JUST MY opinion.

Wow LL I never knew the decision of a 25yrd Pro athlete would leave you so bitter ;) Do you hate Miami that much? Oh yeah I forgot you're a NYC guy, it's in your DNA to hate ALL things Miami ;-)

^^^^^^^

I actually LOVE Miami.

One of my favorite cities in North America (JUST behind NYC and Montreal).

I just HATE shitty people.

And in my not-especially-humble opinion, LeBron James is a shitty person.

It'll be funny if Cleveland signs Udonis Haslem and a parody of the whole Lebron desertion saga plays itself out in the streets of Miami, with #40 jerseys being burned, ownership posting angry letters to nba.com, insults and threats flying everywhere, Haslem paraphernalia being sold off at symbolic prices, melodramatic recollections of Haslem's years at Miami High published in the papers, fans ceremoniously throwing themselves off of bridges, conspiracy theories, etc.

I edited the image from the LBJ billboard that WAS in Cleveland. :)

New Yorkers who hate Miami? this would be the first I have ever seen of this, and I have spent lots of time in both cities. Miami reminds me of a New York South and South America North - sociologically speaking. instead of swimming in the Atlantic Ocean on South Beach, I feel like I am swimming in Long-fucking-Islanders!

as soon as this bullshit hit the fan, I said to myself "hey. at least Michael Jordan's legacy is going to remain intact."

If you want to meet people who actually grew up in Miami, you won't find them on South Beach. To judge Miami "socialogically" by what you see on South Beach is like judging NYC by what you see in Times Square or Cleveland from the Drew Carey Show ;)
