The Big & Dandy Music on Psychedelics Thread (Track #1)

There is something about beatles music that put me in an awesome mood while im trippin!!

Try listening to Beatles Love trippin. Its awesome!!:D

I totally agree, but Sgt. Pepper's was my favorite for a trip. The White Album was my favorite for a smoke session.

Makes sense - they were outspoken trippers, I do believe.

I'm not really a fan of classic rock, but I've always had the inkling that I'd have a pretty good time listening to the Beach Boys with a head full of acid.

Agreed. I usually pull out either Abbey Road, Sergeant P, the White album or Let it Be at some point during a trip. I also frequently hit Rubber Soul and Revolver too.
'Tomorrow Never Knows' can be a calming influence when things are getting a bit extreme. It's good to know that John and the rest might know and have some understanding of the strange places your mind might be experiencing. The words are adapted from The Psychedelic Experience: A Manual Based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead by Tim Leary, R Metzner and R Alpert.
Couldn't resist this thread. I had a day off yesterday and swallowed a big old dose of 4HO-DMT after breakfast about 1030 am. It was a deep powerfull trip with several different layers of my mind separated and pursuing their own particular voyage. There was a middle peak experience in which the narrative sense of self was lost completely followed by an almost giddy euphoric period of ebbing intensity and relocation of self, but still within the grip of a very strong trip.
By 1230 I was ready for some music and hit Magical Mystery Tour. Just the job.
Just getting stuck into the new remasters. You can hear them monkeying about in the studio even more clearly now.
Peace - Pipp

"The Beatles is amazing while tripping"

that's like saying "Lasagna is amazing with cheese on top".

It's just one of those known facts. Same with Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, King Crimson, the 13th Floor Elevators, The Beach Boys, The Stones, Velvet Underground, The Zombies and literally a TON of others in the classic and psychedelic rock era.

The bottom line is good music and tripping go together like beer and salty snacks. Don't give the trophy to the beatles though, they've had their fair share of compliments IMO. There is a shitload of more recent music which is a sort of revival of the trippy sound of the late sixties (or at least very much inspired from it).

Try The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The legendary Pink Dots, Spiritualized, The Apples in Stereo.

Have fun!

I think they are overrated, that's just me though...

I'm a deadhead, so that is my personal fave.

QFT>

I like the Beatles, but there's just not enough going on in the music. No musical conversation, no jumping on the bus and going far out there and coming all the way back.

I need music to take me somewhere, and the Beatles have always just kinda sounded like....well....songs. Good songs, too, but they never GO anywhere man. Live improvised music is like jumping on the back of a bull in the middle of a furious stampede, you don't know where its going and you just have to hold on as tight as you can. That's what music is to me. Recorded songs are just kinda meh to me.

Gimme some John Coltrane or GRATEFUL DEAD any day, is what I say. :D

^oh well now you're just insane :)

of course live cuts are infinitely better than studio tracks, when you can hear the distinct nonverbal communication between artists in a group. unfortunately this is what makes jazz/blues and other heavily improvised styles somewhat difficult to listen to when sober-- usually in the sober mindset the music takes a background to whatever you are focused on at the moment. when stoned/nodding/tripping or any combination of the above, your mind can surrender directly to the music and your subconscious can feel all the nuances that are just glossed over normally. each note (or lack thereof) has a special significance to you because the artist is communicating one-on-one with you.

*cough* The Big & Dandy Music on Psyches Thread *cough*

This thread may be closed or merged with the above... or may not be. Who knows? Tis a magical mystery tour, for sure :)

I <3 The Beatles (several GB on my harddrive will attest to that) but not really for tripping - the films yes, the albums no - for the reasons Roger pointed out: too short, tight and self-contained. One Beatlesesque exception regards tripping is Sgt Pet Sounds which should be so incredibly wrong in every way but somehow isn't.

^Oh yes, how could I forget the films?!

Help! is probably my favorite movie ever. With a head full of acid, the scene where they put Ringo on that shaking machine to shake all his rings off nearly killed me by inducing an epic laughing fit. :D I don't think I've ever laughed that hard in my life srsly. Beatles movies FTW!

Also, these are just some of my favorite picks from these bands, I'd definitely recommend getting a hold of as most of their works as possible.

Anyone like metal?

I like a lot of psychedelic rock like Roky Erickson and Pink Floyd, but Doom metal derived from early black sabbath is awesome on any drug.

Here is some of my favorite doom metal to listen to while trippin out.

i agree with your statement. alot of good bands listed... the brian jonestown massacre remind me of the rolling stones, 'their satanic majesty's second request' is an AWESOME album of theirs...

i love classic psychedelic rock with all my heart.

but

psytrance and psychedelic electronic jam musics are so amazing to me now, especially whilst tripping! ive been real into boards of canada and its so smooth and makes me feel awesome!

anyways its lighting storming outside and i just planted a garden! :(

i hope it doesn't all erode!

music is at the center of my life. listening, producing... with one word, i'm "living" it. so, as the drugs came into my life, the aspects of music has changed, had a progress in my mind's eye. and with psychedelics, music isn't just sounding better, it's felt, seen, smelled, touched and heard finally :) with every note you melt and flow with the music. just wonderful... no true words to describe it.

my choices for most times, some progressive trance or idm'ish things on the come up, true full-on trance and darkpsy on the peak, some psychedelic ambient and chillout at the end of the peak and 70's, blues, classical and psyrock at the comedown... perfection! :)
