Sadly, 2 of my tiger barbs died after I performed a water change yesturday. I might have been a little too hasty when cleaning out more than 50% of the water. They must have died from either shock, or inhaling some of the debris that was picked up after I poured a fresh amount of water.
I replaced the 2 with a Gourami, and 3 guppy's(
yellow leopard,
flamingo, and
phantom guppys) to keep the 4 zebra Danio's. The testing strips all read optimal, except for a little nitrate being detected.
I'd also like to add that my betta is still doing fine. I upgraded his bowl to a bigger 1.75 gallon bowl, and keep it next to my computer lamp to keep the temperature up.
However, the betta is being a really fussy eater lately. I tried 3 different foods (freeze dried bloodworms, tropical fish flakes, and bio-gold) he seems to not touch the flakes (both small and large flakes), he eats the bloodworms as soon as he see's them, but ends up spitting them out soon after he swallows them. Same with the bio-gold pellets. He's been like this since the weather started getting cold.
If he wasn't eating anything throughout this whole time, he would have died for sure, so i'm almost positive that he seems to be finding something to eat in there. Perhaps the mini snails that I threw in there from my regular tank.
Also, one last thing: There's a thin slime layer on top of the water of his bowl... I believe this is because of the lack of surface agitation. Should I remove it when it builds up? or is it something that the fish created just like the bubble nests he used to make during the summer?
Sorry for the low res. webcam won't focus.
