Lately it seems energy drinks are becoming very popular in the younger generations. It seems odd that no companies have attempted to market some form of legal downer in a way that would be appealing to the vast population of high-school and college kids. It seems that there would be a market for it, but perhaps there are just stricter controls and regulations, and no feasible product could be created? Anyone else have any thoughts on this and what it says about our culture as a whole?

It tells me that kids these days enjoy getting all geeked out on meth etc. When I was younger (and even now) I always enjoyed downers.

I think uppers are just more socially convenient, if you know what I mean. Our culture encourages an "upper lifestyle" much more so than "downer lifestyles". A lot of people drink red bulls when cramming for exam and stuff, downers wouldn't work too well in that situation. :)

Totally agree - thinks that after going up up up.
Everyone uses Benzos to calm back down.

I've heard of these 'reverse energy drinks'

Why aren't they popular? Tell me a good legal downer.

I can think of Phenazepam and obscure benzos which not everyone enjoys.

"Yo dawg, we heard u liek to get fu38cked up, so we put some melatonin, Valerian root, 5-htp, and Chamomile in ur drank" 8)

I'm 16 so u can tell you, teens love getting energy. if your not heavy into drugs you probably never heard of a downer, amphetamines like ecstasy and adderall have taken off. kids want to go get fucked up and party all night.

^Find me a high school kid who won't gobble up some "footballs, totem poles, or school buses" lol.

They make em, I have never actually seen them in stores but I want to try em. Read about them on this http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/company-news/anti-energy-drinks/19182909

Thanks for that link, it was a very interesting read. I was not at all aware that someone had already started marketing this sort of thing!

Does alcohol count as a legal downer?

For sure, but you know, the thought of alcohol didn't even cross my mind when I was posting this. I suppose I was more thinking of things with total open availability, though undoubtedly alcohol has to make legal downers much more popular than legal uppers.

Because there are no FDA approved downers. Caffeine and ephedra were grandfathered into OTC use.

^It would be a tasty way to end the night though. Drinking a nice herbal soda before bed. mmmm

Drank! I can't help but laugh at anything intended to mimic cough syrup.

Also, there are plenty of legal downers. My favorites include Johnny Walker Black, Makers Mark, Bells Two Hearted, Surly Darkness, Surly Furious, Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier, Wild Turkey Rye, and Bells Hopslam (which I think I will indulge in right about now).

And here I thought that diphenhydramine was one of the top ten selling OTC downers of the last decade. Here in H-town we have stuff called DRank, and purple that is an anti-energy drink that has become really popular. They contain kava for the most part.
