A SECURITY guard who saved the life of a Sunshine Coast school-leaver after he overdosed on cocaine and morphine last week says the drug scene among Coast teenagers is “chaos”.

Former RAAF officer Nathan Moore was being hailed a hero after he revived the 18-year-old Maroochydore High student at a school formal after-party on Wednesday.

Yesterday Mr Moore revealed how close the young man came to losing his life, and said he believed a significant number of others at the party had indulged in the potentially lethal drug combination.

“I held his hand the whole time. He was crying and he told me that he was worried about getting in trouble with the police,” Mr Moore said.

“Then he would lose consciousness and his body would start seizing. I have no doubt that this was a life and death situation.”

Mr Moore is employed by Gatecrash Security, which also operates in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Ipswich and Toowoomba, specialising in protecting private parties.

Managing director Mark Ellis, a former drug squad police officer, said the Sunshine Coast youth drug culture was one of the worst in the state and second only to the Gold Coast.

Gatecrash Security say drugs at at 90% of the school parties they are hired to attend.

The cocaine found on the Coast teenager last week was worth about $350 a gram and was a drug of choice for “wealthy rock stars”, he said.

“The fact that this area is a holiday destination means that drugs are usually more available, and easier to access, due to the influx of visitors seeking to purchase a range of illicit substances.”

Mr Moore said he and two female officers were hired to do security at a Diddillibah after-formal party.

He had issued the 18-year-old man with a final warning about an hour before the teenager was found unconscious.

“He had left the party to go outside a couple of times and I issued him a final warning that he would not be allowed to get back in again if he left,” Mr Moore said.

“Once all the guests were inside we secured the premises and we began making our regular patrols every 10 minutes.”

Mr Moore said the young man was found 50 metres away from other guests, lying face down in a garden bed.

He determined from conversations with the victim and others at the party that the teenager had consumed a dangerous cocktail of alcohol and drugs.

“I was told he had consumed a bottle of Absolut vodka straight, four white-coloured morphine tablets and cocaine,” Mr Moore said.

“A bag of what is believed to have been cocaine was found in his pants and handed over to police.”

Mr Moore said he wanted to meet the man whose life he saved.

“Saving a person's life is probably the greatest thing you could ever do.

“I found it an absolute privilege to be able to do that.”

I think that says it all , the kid is dying and all he is thinking about is getting in trouble with the police.

SO the fear of the police is worse than the fear of death ??

I think the police who read these forums should pay attention to that !!!

Good point kingping. That is worrying. (ponders whether I think like that)

it is worse than death. Being locked up, out of your mind - denied all basic human rights, sometimes even water, treated like shit - and this is WHAT REALLY HAPPENS - in most cases. 7-9hrs in a fucking concrete cell with nothing to do but think about the walls moving because you've been up for 3 days and you're psychotic and in no state for interview - denied a call to your mother or a friend to say where you are, the tape thrown out where you requested these rights - it beaten into you to say you waive them on tape...

this is what happens.

sucks the big one when you've been put in lock up on a head full of acid, and they know this so they start pointing guns at you and telling you that you won't make it out alive! The pressure that police are applying to general drug users is insane. They really should be focusing more on high end dealers go all honesty. This story just reinforces the point along with the tragic ones you hear of people ODing at festivals and events because that risk is a better option than police brutality! Harsh word i know.

See I wonder about this. I have never been arrested, but is it *REALLY* like this?? I'm not saying something like this hasn't happened in the past but it does seem very farfetched to say that this is the norm. Australia was recently voted 8th least corrupt country of 2009.

I'm not having a go, it just seems amazing to me that this could actually be happening and noone finding out about it / hearing about it. My experience with cops has actually been that they're pretty top blokes.

The bottle of vodka alone would be enough to put me face first in the garden bed.

Morphine tablets, alcohol and cocaine at the start of a party doesn't sound like much fun to me. Forget about HR, some one should teach these kids how to enjoy these substance properly

Good work on the security personnel's behalf. I don't understand why some people wouldn't research substances and drug combinations before they consumed. Cocaine + Alcohol + Morphine will obviously not be doing your CNS any favours.

You hit the nail right on the head Kingpin. Well done :)

Maybe the title of the article should read:

"Drugs rife among world population".

Then hopefully they'll stop fucking around and help people rather than prosecute.

Too hard for people like Christopher Pyne (Liberal MP) who is still convinced Ecstasy tablets have Hydrochloric acid in them.

What hope have we got with people like that in a position of power.

:\

Really? I'd be interested to see a reliable source quoting him on this.

A pre-emptive thanks Luude =)

Don't trust them one bit chemi

They want you to think they are top blokes

8th place is far from the gold medal

I never believed the stories i heard from people who had been locked up until i had first hand experience

Lets hope you never have to go through it :)

Bollocks, the Gold Coast scene for teens that I know of is over-rated and over-reported. Just in my experience anyway.

Finally a good bouncer. Good to see this. Wish all of em were like that. Ive seen alot of bouncers just kick people out drunk or on drugs and leave em there. They threw them out like dolls.

Well they do, sort of....

The usual salt form of MDMA is it's hydrochloride salt and it's this form that's used in tablets. Ideally this is made by gassing the freebase with HCl. However, it is possible to overdo it, particularly if a solution of HCl is used. The salt might take on a slightly yellow tinge or appear damp. Air drying would cause any excess to evaporate.

Unless there's documented evidence of intentionally adding HCL, then I think Mr Pyne either got some fed some bad info, or was confused, or both.

See that's insane, just the vodka alone would have most people on the ground, throw in the morphine and it's very few who'd still be standing, then throw in the cocaine (which interacts with the alcohol as far as cardiotoxicity etc. goes and provides short term CNS stimulation, allowing further doseage of downers), and well... :/

I know it's a tired line, but this is why we need to educate people. Sure they'll still do dumb shit, but I think if he'd had a full awareness of how dangerous a cocktail that is he wouldn't have gone to such extremes.

The security guard sounds like a decent bloke at least, good on him for helping out like that, most likely saved that kids life.

Im just stoked that someone would mix such drugs together. Surely the vodka would of been enough? Really sad that 18 year olds are doin this without realizing the consequences.

Its Christopher Pyne, he was definitely referring to actual Hydrochloric acid, he is a fear mongering moron and i hope he gets taken out.

David Caldicott OWNED him in that interview though, it was good.
