Quitting College and going to Cosmetology school...

The nation is a totally artificial construct though. Why is it that all the people who happen to have been born in the UK deserve a slice, but the inhabitants of France or Germany do not? Surely the inhabitants of sub-Saharan Africa are just as entitled to an education? Providing that would be totally crippling.
Yeah, some people are born richer than others. Some people are born more intelligent or attractive too. Should we rob from them to compensate for the inequality?

The top 5% of the population (maybe less) should get a traditional academic education. The rest of us should begin our apprenticeships at 14. I think such a system could be easily publically funded.

How in the bloody hell are you supposed to know what you want to do when you're 14? I think I wanted to be an astronaut until I was about 15. Then a writer until I was 18. Then a computer programmer until I was 21. Then I wanted to be a biologist until I was 25. Now I want to be a doctor.

So I guess that means I would've gone to astronaut school? Or maybe because I wasn't smart enough I could pick between bricklayer and pipe fitter?

Cool system bro. You should run for office.

I don't see why it's so difficult for people to think progressively, and take joy out of the fact that we've come a long way in terms of mobility and life choices. Why do people insist on focusing on the most negative aspects of society, and suggest that despite all the progress we've made, the answer is to revert back to a more conservative way of life in order to fix things? Get out from under your rock and enjoy the motherfucking sunshine.

Maybe they could hook you up with a partner based on psychometric and genetic tests too?

with all the money we'd save, we could even provide government suicide counselling for those condemned to accounting.

Labour isn't the commodity it once was. You need to step out of this mindset. Yes, there's jobs to be had if you go looking, but mechanization and technology has decreased the need for every hand to be busy at all hours of the day.

We have the luxury of choosing what we want to do in our 20's. Instead of lamenting this, celebrate it. I don't know how many times I need to say it. Jobs for the sake of jobs is wasted labour, and wasted time.

surely though Cyc you have to agree (you might have said it) that a four year college isn't the 'best fit' for everyone?

some people simply like being cosmetologists and plumbers (and we surely need the latter at least).

Yes, certainly. Trade school is fine too. I just don't like this attitude of anti-intellectualism. I actually think it benefits society if everyone is an expert at something, even if it's only in the academic sense. It increases thinktank levels, and with the easy flow of information these days, some collateral good is bound to come of it.
