do you drive when you're high?

can we all agree that it is unsafe and irresponsible to operate heavy machinery while under the influence?
 
Nah.. ;) You'll never agree on that. There's always people who think that it doesn't apply to them.
 
I drive high all the time..

There have been times I felt too baked to drive and opted to wait before driving, but thats not too common for me. For some people smoking a moderate amount of weed doesn't significantly affect their ability to drive, period..

same thing applies to alcohol.

tolerance plays a huge role i would think. my old boss could drive on 80mg oxy, but i can barely keep my eyes open on 10mg...

I totally agree driving when high on marijuana is easy for some. It does not make it right by any means though.
 
so there is no tolerance to alcohol?

Never do drugs and drive.
 
Never said there isn't a tolerance factor with alcohol..

Just that we shouldn't lump pot in with booze in terms of impairment while behind the wheel.. Every substance is unique in how much and in what matter people are generally likely to become "impaired" on.
 
sorry, i thought you were implying that that alcohol ALWAYS impairs you, when some people can be tolerant to its effects.

If anything, this is exactly why pot should be lumped into the same category as alcohol, where driving in concerned.

No, because tolerance isn't really relevant when comparing the effects weed and alcohol have on driving. Stoners can still get high, and drunks can still get drunk.

If the average person drives an 8 out of 10 stoned, they will drive about as well as they do while sober. If the average person drives an 8 out of 10 drunk, they will generally be lucky to make it home without crashing or being pulled over for obvious drunk driving.. It doesn't matter how many beers or bong hits it takes you to get to that "8 out of 10", the point is that once you get that fucked up on either substance, its better to be on pot than booze when your behind the wheel.

Car rides are fucking awesome when your really high. Especially with some great music. Trippy shit like pink floyd or orbital :).

As cocaine and amphetamines increase alertness and concentration, driving on them is a good idea right?
 
It's not a good idea... but I'm pretty sure it could be proven to be magnitudes less dangerous than drinking and driving. Or doing most drugs and driving.
 
I can't believe we're comparing alcohol and weed in regards to driving at this point.

I've never been so high (from smoking) that I could not drive safely. If I was pulled over, I could "sober up".

Any time I drink 10+ beers, I know I would not be driving safely. Hell, I probably wouldn't make it home.

While this is not universal (obviously), alcohol is a different beast. There is a reason blunt cruising is so popular, and not drink-cruising.

Should we drive while impaired? No. Are there certain substances that are less endangering? Of course.

I can drive high but doing any complex activity while high ruins the buzz for me so what I just smoked is wasted. So smoking weed and driving in my case a waste of good weed. Might as well throw it out the window.
