When I'm dancing in my living room, getting down to James Brown, at 2pm on a friday afternoon, and I'm not high or drunk. My sister starts giving me strange looks. :D
Another example, wearing bright clothes with psychedelic patterns, skin tight disco pants to the supermarket. ;)

What are things that you do that other people just don't understand?

Abstain from ice cream. You wouldn't believe how many people simply refuse to believe that I don't much care for the stuff.

Ride a bicycle in the winter. It's not dangerous if there's no ice or snow on the road, and if you wear a microfiber shirt that wicks sweat, you won't be in the least way cold after the first mile. I saw plenty of people biking, on ice and snow no less, in Russia and China during the winter.

Some people don't understand why I appear to be smiling all the time, and why I never get angry at people. I dunno! Life's too short to get angry at people. And it feels good to smile.
There, problem solved =D

I do this thing where I rub inside my bottom lip with my pinky finger and then rub my nose with the same finger. Nobody understands why I do it. Neither do I.

I have the opposite problem. People don't understand why I don't smile very often. They usually ask "what's wrong?".

Nothing's wrong! This is how I normally look!

People don't understand why I help others the way I do. I open my home and my heart. I get grief constantly from ppl, telling me it's not my place, I'm asking for trouble....blah blah blah.....
It's what I do....I take care of people. Wish I could do more for others...but am slowly learning that help needs to be given carefully so as not to be taken advantage of.

I sometimes act on principle in a way that many people seem to object to. I've always taken pride in standing up for what I believe in. Some people even seem to object to this on a principle basis (!), as if it's somehow bad to try and be true to your own ideals.

Advanced Mathematics.

On a related matter; Logical reasoning

I often get strong reactions when I make comparisons and use parables, or explain my reasoning in an abstract way. People make comments like "That's a completely different thing!" or "That's not the same!", when in essence it really is. Parables are used to convey a message that might not be as easily and/or precisely conveyed in any other way (it might of course have various artistic reasons but that's not the subject here). I know which point I'm trying to make. Thus, people should try and see in which way the parable makes sense. Assuming for the moment it makes sense in some way, if they won't then they might as well stop listening to me altogether.

In short; I feel I encounter people who are bad at abstractions a bit often. I might add that people sometimes think I'm a bit "hard to deal with" or stubborn. It has been confirmed by others however that my mother has a hard time with abstractions, and I think maybe that has made the issue even more "infected". I might for example object to her use of a certain word in a discussion, upon which she is annoyed by that thinking I'm doing it to be an ass, when in actuality I'm objecting because I think there is a difference of interest to the discussion. Me trying to explain all of this usually causes annoyance. Even if several other people being present can see my point she might not.

I like drinking water straight from my faucet because I think it tastes better than from a glass.

I too do that sometimes, mostly cause I'm lazy or can't get a glass fast enough. I also sometimes drink milk directly from the carton, taking care not to contaminate it though, even though I used to frown upon this practice myself in the past.

I have only recently realized that sometimes when I think I'm smiling or appearing to be happy or at least content I'm really not. It turns out I appear sad much of the time. My social appeal is further worsened by the fact that I sometimes go quite for too long when I'm among other people. But I'm working on it... Getting to know yourself should be a lifelong process, I think, otherwise you're probably doing something wrong. Oh my... I could write a book on this.. better slow down.

The most random and useless talent would be my pancake making abilities. :) Sometimes I'll just start making them, doesn't matter where I am if they have the ingredients I'll just go at it.

Sometimes I get hassled for it, usually people are like "choclate what?" and they'll eat it anyway. People just don't get it. I like a good pancake; often.

Play xbox. A lot. I'm an older woman and when my co-workers or others around my age find out, they are truly SHOCKED and ask a million questions.

i don't like water in a glass either. like, an actual glass cup. i'm ok with plastic though, but i prefer a bottle over a cup. since i have well water, i can't drink from the faucet, but at my moms i like it straight from the faucet; it definitely tastes better! it must have something to do with aeration.

oh, here's my addition to the thread: i like to eat ice cream straight from the container with a fork, and a lotta people find that odd. but i trace it back to birthday parties when i was a kid, cuz you usually got cake and ice cream together with just a fork.

When I'm writing something on a sheet of paper, I sometimes wait until the end of the line to dot my i's and cross my t's, and I count which line won :p

When I write class notes by hand, I'm a big fan of the diëresis. I've reëducated myself to use it when writing about things like microörganisms, oögenesis, and fasciïtis. It's the most space efficient and fun way to indicate that two adjacent vowels are pronounced separately.
