the official 2010 NFL thread!

If you wanna crown them, THEN CROWN THEIR ASS!!!

Axl you actually rank dallas in the bottom 5 of teams this year? you must be an eagles fan or something :|

no way am I a Philly fan, the aforementioned list was on who will not make the playoffs, if I am correct. I don't think Dallas stands a chance a) because they are in the NFC East and will not compete for at least second place and b) because they have not made the playoffs in so long.

haha yeah I am a homer what can I say...

me too. any sports fan with conviction is a homer.

Good calls on:

(1) Mora's "PLAY-OFFS?! PLAY-OFFS?!!!"

and

(2) "We PLAY . . . to WIN . . . THE GAME!!!!!"

Only sports press conference ad-libbed (or at least, ad-libbed-sounding) sound-byte I would put alongside those two are AI's infamous:

"PRACTICE?!!!

PRACTICE?!!!

We're here talkin bout PRACTICE???!!!!"

Good derailing of a good thread.

I love this game, too.

speaking of AI and speaking of derailing, it's kinda funny how he was the one of the only athletes in Philly, whose fans are notoriously deluded with a special type of downs syndrome, to be truly embraced for most of his carreer there. I know I loved him back in the day, I think I have all of his rookie cards.

any Philly fans give me absolute confirmation?

are you guys wanting to do the NFL pick-em this year? I think it's always a good idea.

every year I do this, because it's fun to look back (and sometimes laugh) when the season is over. the conference champions of each division are the first listed followed by the second place team, and so on. my picks for the NFL Wild Card teams are after, followed by the AFC/NFC Championship picks, followed by the Super Bowl then the SB winner.

AFC

AFC North
1. Pittsburgh Steelers - Pittsburgh retains most of their super staff and is poised to have two breakout players in linebackers LaMar Woodley and Lawrence Timmons (great - just what opposing offenses need, more Steelers LBs). the big question is if the offensive line can keep QB Ben Roethlisberger on his feet for the season?
2. Baltimore Ravens - despite losing the significant defensive mind of Rex Ryan and LB Bart Scot to the NY Jets, I don't think that Joe Flacco or the coaching staff will suffer from a Sophomore Slump. the Ravens are good, they just happen to be in a division with Pittsburgh - who does exactly what they do only slightly better.
3. Cincinatti Bengals - the Bengals need to build on last year's solid defensive preformance and hope Carson Palmer can remain healthy while not having Housh to throw to.
4. Cleveland Browns - Cleveland has not settled on a QB - will it be the conservative minded Brady Quinn or the gunslinger Derek Anderson? doesn't really matter, as I don't think they will reach 6 or 7 wins this year.

AFC East
1. New England Patriots - Tom Brady is back and looking to cement his title as this decade's football god. I think NE will be very good, but an aging defense will keep them away from greatness.
2. Maimi Dolphins - for the Wildcat formation to work this year, they need to figure out how to throw the ball from that formation. Miami has done no apparent steps to figure this out and I see them edged slightly by the Pats for the division title.
3. Bufallo Bills - QB Edwards will find a comfy target in T. O. but the Bills will not get out to a great start with losing RB Marshawn Lynch for the first quarter of the season.
4. New York Jets - the Rex Ryan coached Jets will be good, it is just gonna have to wait a year (sorry lady). Sanchez will be a good player in the NFL year, he just needs to get some reps on a professional level. any defense anchored by Rex Ryan and Bart Scott will be good. I can see the Jets maybe stealing the number 2 spot in this conference, but I could also see them suffering a 6 win season.

AFC South
1. Indianapolis Colts - first the bad: Tony Dungy is gone and their defense and run game have some considerable question marks. then the good: Peyton Manning is one of the best QBs in the league and an assistant coach in his own right. the Colts will win the division but not much else.
2. Tennessee Titants - their defense won't be as scary without DT Albert Haynesworth, but they still have some weapons and can prove deadly - specially if they figure out how to work in/motivate QB Vince Young.
3. Jacksonville Jaguars - some people think that the Jags will return to form this year. as much as I like Jack Del Rio I don't think they will be able to get past the division hurdles that are the Titans and the Colts.
4. Houston Texans - this team is perpetually .500 and a big reason is because their QB cannot stay healthy.

AFC West
1. San Diego Chargers - LT isn't the best RB in the league, but he still is damn good. Shawn Merriman is back and should be giving opposing QBs headaches. look for Rivers, Sproles, LT and company to win the worst division in pro football.
2. Denver Broncos - some people are dismissing the Broncos already - and with such a brutal schedule, character problems, and a mediocre-at-best QB in Kyle Orton, who can blame?
3. Oakland Raiders - JaMarcus Russel and Darren McFadden are studs. maybe they have enought talent to finish second in this conference?
4. Kansas City Chiefs - with Matt Cassel injured the glass is definetely half empty.

AFC Rookie of the Year
Rey Mauluga - Cincinatti Bengals
it's hard to dismiss another product of USC linebacking corps.

AFC Defensive MVP
Troy Palamalu - Pittsburgh Steelers
look for Troy to have another breakout year, with around two or three INTs for touchdowns. runner-ups include a number of other Steelers defensemen - including LB James Harrison or newcoming LB Lawrence Timmons. Houston Texans DE Mario Williams could charge in here as well.

AFC Offensive MVP
Peyton Manning - Indianapolis Colts
Manning has still got it and his stats will most definetely show.

NFC

NFC North

1. Minnesota Vikings - Adrian Peterson is easily the best player in the league and all the Vikes need from Favre is for him to keep defenses honest. is it time for the SuperBowl talk to begin?
2. Chicago Bears - I could easily put the Packers here, but I will go with Chicago because Matt Forte bring a better run game than Green Bay.
3. Green Bay Packers - the Pack Attack has been relentless during the offseason, but it is afterall just the offseason. concerning the team, Aaron Rodgers is the veteran QB of all QBs in this division and is poised to have a breakout season. will this division follow the suit of the NFC East and allow three teams to make the playoffs?
4. Detroit Lions - all of a sudden, the Lions look to be surrounded by divisional contenders. expect to hear Stafford to Johnson all season long.

NFC East
1. Philadelphia Eagles - I am very sold on the Eagles this season. they have a disciplined blitz happy defense and a pass happy offense. hopefully Brian Westbrook can be more than a glorified wide reciever.
2. New York Giants - the Giants are still very good with Eli Manning and Brandon Jacobs. Plaxico Burress left a black hole sized gap at WR.
3. Dallas Cowboys - without the cancerous T.O, a two-headed beast at RB, and not many questions across the board; Dallas should have a great year. but I say this every year and I don't expect them to break their recent trend of not making the playoffs.
4. Washington Redskins - I like Jim Zorn, QB Jason Taylor, and the acquisition of DT Haynesworth. it just sucks for the Skins that they play in the NFC East, a division consisting of perpetual players.

NFC South

1. Atlanta Falcons - this division is always the most difficult to predict, but I think that the Falcons will be top dogs this year. RB Michael Turner is a great pick to anyone's fantasy football team and QB Matty Ice should suffer from no Sophomore Slump.
2. New Orleans Saints - the Saints finished last in 2008, but I expect Drew Brees to put up Drew Brees-like numbers again.
3. Carolina Panthers - this team has talent, but QB Jack Delhomme needs to throw less picks. maybe next year.
4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - the Bucs have a tough schedule and don't look fantastic under new QB Byron Leftwich. this year they will go in rebuilding mode.

NFC West
1. Arizona Cardinals - Kurt Warner will find Anquan Boldin many times again this year, and I expect them to implement rookie RB Beanie Wells early and often (if he can avoid injury).
2. Seattle Seahawks - QB Matt Hasselback is back from injury and the Seahawk are going to undergo a facelift from new headcoach Jim Mora Jr.
3. San Franciso 49ers - Head Coach Mike "Crazy Eyes" Singletary doesn't have enough crazy to prove that RB Frank Gore wasn't a one-season wonder.
4. St. Louis Rams - QB Marc Bulger will throw more pics than TDs and their defense will continue to not show up.

NFC Rookie of the Year
Beanie Wells - Arizona Cardinals
although Moreno might prove to be better in the long-term, Arizona needs RB production now. with such grand offensive weapons around him, shouldn't be hard.

NFC Offensive MVP
Adrian Peterson - Minnesota Vikings
does anyone honestly see otherwise?

NFC Defensive MVP
Jared Allen - Minnesota Vikings
I can see how picking two Viking players might look odd on my part, but they could actually be that good this year.

now for the short playoffs version. I don't know why I subject myself to this every year. hopefully some of you find it interesting and it sparks some preseason debate:

AFC Playoff Wildcards: Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans.

AFC Championship: Pittsburgh Steelers VS New Engand Patriots - this would be a very good game, and could very well decide the AFC "team of the decade."

NFC Playoff Wildcards: Chicago Bears or Green Bay Packers and the New York Football Giants.

NFC Championship: Philadelphia Eagles VS Minnesota Vikings. this would be a very good game against two very good teams. it is almost too close for me to call so early, but I will go ahead and go with Philly.

the Superbowl: Pittsburgh Steelers VS Philadelphia Eagles. I see the Steelers edging out a Patriots team because of their aforementioned aging defense, while Pitt's defense is just too fundamentally sound. the Eagles once again make it to the SB after being roadblocked by the NFC Championship game for so long. I think that the Eagles will get over not having any truly talented receivers and find ways to incorporate Vick into the storyline.

the Eagles will win the SuperBowl. there you have it, BL.

he does have two good targets to throw to. and T. O. usually waits at least two years to start poisoning the locker room.

I think that the Bills will get off to a rocky start due to lack of Marshawn Lynch running the ball. but the wagons must be circled. do you think they will be successful without their work horse RB, GM?

Keep an eye on Green Bay this season. Dom Capers is an excellent coordinator and should help the defense rebound from a rough 2008 with the 3-4 switch while the offense should retain its potency from last year.

And Axl...wouldn't last season qualify as Aaron Rodgers' "breakout season"? :) He should have big numbers pending his health.

I do. I've always liked Fred Jackson better than Marshawn Lynch. I think people are going to be surprised to see what he does in the first four games while Lynch is out.

My only concern is the O-Line. If they can even hold up decently I think the Bills will have a good year. otherwise it's going to be a disaster.
