Best Anti-Depression Medicine

I am currently tapering off Effexor (which I thought was great when I started it) and onto Lamictal and man, the difference is amazing. I'm alert but not wired, my anxiety is way down already, and my temper is so much calmer I'm like a brand new person. Plus, I'm yet to experience any side effects (up to 75 mg currently). I'd highly recommend it to anyone who has treatment-resistant depression.

My doc prescribed me one of the older ones, Imipramine, because I was having trouble sleeping. Apparently it has a mild sedative effct. Must admit, I started sleeping better after he upped the dose to 6/25mg at night. All I know about it is that it's an older anti depressant. Can anyone tell me anything about it?

Dude I've taken every anti depressant under the sun for anxiety and depression. THe one and the onyl one that did anything but make me want to kill myself is celexa. But celexa is just so damn mild and subtle, it was like some sort of lurking depression "protection" feel to the mind and body.. I could go into a building or do whatever feeling slightly securer due to that lurking feeling but whenever something I didn't like happened all the feelings would wash away the weak blanket of protection celexa offered.

I hear alot of good thigns about celexa from the people I know that've tried anti depressants of all sorts, it seems to be a favorite... maybe due to its side effect profile which is minimal compared to something like zoloft or effexor.

having said that if you havent tried celexa yet I convince you to try it, barely any side effects, well tolerated and it was the only anti D that could offer me any type of relief even if it was minimal.. Also I'm aware theres a drug called lexapro which is the same chemical as celexa just 25% more potent due to active salts and wahtnot, similiar to the dexedrine and adderal relationship.

Like many of the others have mentioned, everyone is different so you should try different ones (following a doctors orders) until you find the right drug. Don't try to switch\mix without consulting your doc tho!!! But I know a lot of people had to try out a few before finding one that worked.

For me, Lexapro worked very well. It's an SSRI. I found that my mood improved significantly after taking it for 2 weeks and the side effects were minimal... dry mouth and difficulty orgasming for the first week and then nothing. Also, some anti-depressants can make you gain weight, but that is not a side effect of Lexapro which is nice.

Lexapro also helps with mild anxiety, which for me improved my sleep a lot... I used to get anxious and panicky for some reason when I tried to go to bed, which caused insomnia... the Lexapro helped a lot with that.

I didn't get any kind of high or buzz from Lexapro (of course, I only took the appropriate dosage, if you took more idk??) if thats what you are after.

This is just my personal expierence, so I'd recommend you give it a try if your doctor thinks it would be good for you. Good luck!!!!

nothing like a point of shards to chase away depression...:P

but from talking to people, I'd say bupropion....it seems to have a good tolerablity and to be nice and effective.

but AD's are very personal and you'll need to find whatever works best for you.

I've tried lexapro, sucked didn't do a damn thing

Tried Zoloft, worked for about two months then things got way worse.

laid off all the ssri's and self medicated with pot. Worked. Depression was gone and even anxiety was gone.

But ultimately had to quit because of probation. Now I feel like shit and have to wait for another year before I can relive my symptoms. Ain't life a bitch. Thank you so much America.

dextroamphetamine helped my depression, reuptake inhibitors didn't, not even psychotherapy or diet+sleep+excercize did. interestingly enough, benzamphetamine and METHAMPHETAMINE did nothing for my depression really.

Anyone considered some of the studies that show Ketamine to be a very effective anti-depressant? the doses used in the trials were as low as 35mg and showed a great amount of improvement in a fair number of the subjects.

ive tried prozac, wellbutrin and celexa, right now im on celexa, and thats the one i would recommend, 2nd wellbutrin.

prozac didnt do anything for me, and i also heard that zoloft makes you gain weight, but everybody's different.

ive tried all of the ssris and dont recommend you try those at all.

Bupropion/SSRI augmentation can work but an SSRI on its own is useless.

Venlafaxine worked well at first but now it is redundant.

I'm seeing my psychiatrist at the hospital next month and want to get a MAOI.

Some guy also said amisulpride is good stuff, and if you actually need sleep consider taking remeron.

Infact, venlafaxine/bupropion is a clinically proven strategy, steer clear of the SSRIs altogether!

QFT ^^

I find Mary Jane to be one of the most effective antidepressants ever :D

Side Effects (from the mind of Katt Williams):

Hungry
Happy
Sleepy

:)

Illegally, Ganj, acid, and of course, MDMA

Legally, erm..dunno, I am on trazodone, but its early doors yet, as I have only been on them five days. I am looking forward to them kicking in.

i've been on prozac, wellbutrin, seroquel, all with terrible side effects. so then my doc switched me to celexa cause its a light ssri, or so he says. was on it for 3 months with my dosage going up to 40mgs a day. i had no sides effects but it also wasnt doing shit.

so now doc has switched me to 20mgs of paxil daily. i'm almost on the third week and i still dont feel shit. still getting bad panic attacks along with my depression.

my doc has even brought up the idea of electroconvulsive therapy if i dont start responding to the antidepressants. i def rather stick to my current high dose benzo regimen to get me through than subject myself to all bad possible side effects of that procedure.

^ High dose benzo regimen would cause even more problems in the long run... ie. addiction, tolerance, tiredness/lethargy. Withdrawal comes with seizures and convulsions which can be deadly, and tapering is a severely uncomfortable experience, even more than with opioids.
In your position, i'd rather go go with an opioid + diet + excercise regimen along with behavioral psychotherapy.

^and opiods wouldn't cause addiction?

except for heroin addicts who are eternally bound to opiates/oids, noone, i mean noone should ever take opiates/oids for depression, as once inevitable cessation happens, whether you built up a too expensive habit or w/e, all good effects dissappear, leaving in its place despair and suicidal thoughts.

Take my advice, taper slowly off the benzos and pick up a new book and exercise, try green tea, the alkaloid theanine has some GABA affinity, which will help with benzo w/d, but you dont want to be taking pills all your life.

Wellbutrin Sr. not the immediate release or the XL...i tried them and Sr. works the best...actually a lot of people said the same thing...combined with dexedrine.
it actually depends on your depression symptoms...
examples:
if your depression symptoms include:
depression with negativity and anxiousness
low self-esteem
irritability, anger
anxiety, panic, phobias
obsessive thoughts/behaviors
suicidal ideation
heat intolerance
that usually indicates deficiency or dysfunction with serotonin and is treated with SSRI's or SNRI's

if your depression symptoms include:
depression with apathy (lack of passion or excitement..lack of interest in or concern for things that others find moving or exciting) also known as Anhedonia
lack of energy
lack of drive
focus and concentration problems
usually indicates deficiency or dysfunction with dopamine and/or norepinephrine and is usually treated with Wellbutrin (a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI) or stimulants

I currently take 100MG Zoloft a day. It use to work very well for me and now it really doesn't help much. What are the best anti-depressants on the market today?

Hey there. I started 100mg zoloft bout 10 yrs ago which was a Godsend and then had a huge car accident and got post traumatic stress disorder so went up to 200mg. I just recently found it not working and am now on Lexapro 20mg, another ssri. You could ask ur doctor to try another ssri or even try an snri (selective noradrenalin reuptake inhibitor). Just dont start takin heavier stuff like antipsychotics. They can work but have hideous side effects like diabetes. If ur interested send me a private msg and ill send you a list of natural suppleents that are really helpful. Soryy but have to go, late for work.
