Okay losers, post here! v. The Weight Loss thread

dec 2005 - 122kg
07/10/2006 - 84.5kg

(i am buff)

how i did it:

diet: mon - macdonalds, tues - pizza, wed - KFC, thurs - pub counter meal, fri - all of the above

exercise: running, lots of running (5km+). hit and/or kick boxing bag. swim at beach (against current, long distance, short races, etc). push car up and down street (especially if you live in a culdesac, push it round & round & round until you die). have a lot of sex with spouse or S/O.

i personally believe all this eat healthy business is bullshit. don't get me wrong, TV has no reason to lie, but in my own practical experience losing weight comes down to one simple factor: if you excercise more than you eat, it is physically impossible *not* to lose weight.

Great bump!!! I was actually thinking of starting\searching for a thread like this earlier today.

Congrats theRealFatman :)

Yeah, I really am not too keen on sharing my exact weight until it gets a bit lower (lol). I'm in a healthy weight range but I'd like to shed some fat and tone up. I've been eating healthier for 2 weeks now and lost a total of 4lb :) Lost 3 last week, 1 this week. I'm really happy!

I had previously lost weight on Weight Watchers a few years ago, and although its a good program, I opted this time around NOT to count calories\points or measure food! I try to keep a rough idea of my caloric\fat intake and eat balanced but I don't obsess with the labels. So far it hasn't been too bad- definently an adjustment from fast food and tons of carbs, but I still allow room for a treat sometimes (I had a Happy Meal the other day- way less calories and smaller portion than my old favorite, a Big Mac)

Anyways, sorry for rambling! It's so encouraging reading everyones success stories. Good luck\good job everyone!!!!

I have decided to make another lifestyle change *gasp* Portion control aka controlling the pot munchies!

I eat well balanced meals throughout the day. After I smoke, I eat again. Sometimes it might be an hour after dinner. I know I am not hungry. It is the drugs, man. I am not scarfing down junk but it can be excessive. This is why I do not keep junk in the house. I am not even paying attention to what I am eating. Cereal, frozen fruit bars, wasabi peas, baked potato chips, Kashi granola bars, leftovers from dinner. I don't eat all of this in one night. I used to. At least once a month we get a Dairy Queen Blizzard. Did you know they have trans fats in them?!

I understand that in order to change my body I need to take in less calories. I am not counting my calories through out the day. I am not going to be a slave to the scale. No longer my style. As a recovering binge eater (one year YES!), I do not think it is safe to be strict with myself and re-create an unhealthy relationship with food.

I am taking it night by night. Last night I measured the suggested cereal serving and the milk. Holy shit! What a small amount! I ate it slowly in front of the tv. Surprisingly, I was satisfied and I went to bed.

I estimate by the end of the summer (3 months) I shall have visible definition of my abs and better shape to my thighs. If I don't see this during this time, I have not failed. I will continue to adopt this habit.

Taking in less calories now in my mid 30's is a good thing. About 90% of menopausal women gain some weight between the ages of 35 and 55 due to changing hormonal levels. During menopause, women will begin to put weight on around the abdomen, instead of around the hips, thighs, and rear. Weight gain beyond our control. Great :X I will do the best I can to keep it together NOW.

This might be more suited for my blog. Thanks for reading.

I was at 245 in oct 08. I'm down to 195. I need to hit the gym now but I just watched my calories. Never went above 2k a day. I play sports 4x and I work in construction which helped of course. No one can understand what pita it is to lose weight unless they go through it. I have 4 brother all over 260. It's in my genes to be heavy. I feel like if I look at a double cheeseburger I can 5lbs. Keep up the good work PI and I'm going to be looking for your salad recipes. :)

Good for you! I will post the recipes in the other thread.

The most I have ever weighed was about 145-150. That was at least 10 years ago. I am 5'5". I was overweight, unfit, and unhappy but not exercising. That is the key to maintaining a healthy body.

Currently I am 128-132lbs with muscle, strength, and agility. I no longer have a weight goal. I focus on how much I can lift, stretch, endure, AND look in cute clothes!

Ressur.. wow, good job!! thats a lot of weight to lose.. you must be so happy :) I mean, struggling against your genes is no easy feat, but you are proof that it can be done!!! be proud of yourself!!! Good luck at the gym.

Good luck to you as well PI :) Your outlook on all of your changes is SO healthy and inspiring!! Really, that is fabulous. I like how you focus on healthy and happy vs. being a slave to the scale. As said before, I strive to get to a place where I'm practicing your habits and being happy with myself :D way to go girl.

Ahhh, as for myself, I had been doing well... but I went on a cruise to Bermuda last week and gained back 2 of the 4lb. that I had lost :( I guess I kind of expected it considering I had at least 5 fruity, calorie-filled cocktails a day, and fabulously fatting food (lobster with butter, cheesecake) for a week. It's so hard to resist on vacation!!

And I have a question for you "losers" - is there a way to jump-start weight-loss without resorting to laxitives or straving yourself (yuck)???? I have a short term goal I'd love to meet by July because I am going to the beach for 2 weeks with my boyfriend and I want to look good in a bikini :) My ULTIMATE goal is moderation and healthy habits, but for the next month and half I really need to crunch down and get rid of some fat. Any suggestions would be FABULOUS!!!

Thanks, and good luck to all <3

Couple tips,

1. Eat a small breakfast everyday to start you metabolism.
2. Drink a glass of water 15 minutes before every meal so you're not as hungry.
3. Eat 3 lower calorie meals and 2 healthy snacks, eating 5 times a day maintains your metabolism.
4. Cut down on carbs after 6pm if you need a late snack find something with fiber to fill you up.
5. Exercise at least 30 minutes everyday.

Without knowing your exact size I'd guesstimate that if you counted calories and kept them around 1700 a day you'd lose weight pretty fast. Good luck and pm me if you have any questions I'd be glad to help.

ThaiDie: Think of the fat on your body as a fuel for your muscles. If you fill up your car with gas and drive it at top speed, you will quickly deplete the gas, IE burn all of the fuel.

From this, if you really want to loose weight fast, you need to exercise till exhaustion 4-6 times a week, at least. Its really about physics and energy. Exercise will burn calories. Once you have used up all of your calories from food, your body will burn its internal calories (fat).

I'm talking 4 hours of hard exercise a day. You really need to push yourself beyond exhaustion, then keep going. Remember that the mind will quit before the body, so this is more of a mental exercise than anything.

I know it sounds harsh, but using calories is the only way you can get rid of them. Good Luck!

The main thing is you can't injure your joints and tendons. If you feel sharp, shooting pain, you need to stop. If you simply feel tired, push through.

As for exercising 4 hours a day, its absolutely doable (body wise). Look at people who landscape for 8 hours a day. Professional athletes are another example. The reason most people don't do this is they either don't have the time, or they get board.

What if I just ate less and exercized maybe 1 or 2 hours?

This is just baseline exercise. It isn't really the "jump start" you were asking for. 1 to 2 hours a day with restricted calories will cut weight gradually, but nothing major in two months time.

Thanks. Now when you say 4 hours of exercizing, do you mean cardio, strength training, or both??

I guess I could do things like the ellipitcal machine to keep from constantly pounding on joints. Or swimming or bike riding.

As of now though, I have some kind of throat infection, my lymphnodes are super swollen and I've been having a fever between 100.7 - 101.4 (f) all day :( Operation "get fit" will have to wait a few days :!

^^for sure. It def sounds like you're too sick right now to work out.

As for exercise routine, just mix it up. Run, swim, lots of yoga, weight lift, play sports, hike. Just burn calories :) Hope you feel better soon!

^ Wowza. Is that OK to do??
The science is correct however it is unrealistic. Who can work out 4 hours a day? That is for people who make a living off there body. It is their job to be fit.

So have realistic expectations ThaiDie. Be grateful you were able to go on a cruise. Next time make better food, drink, and activity choices on vacation that won't leave you feeling like you failed. If you are going to indulge, know you need to burn it off. When I look at cheesecake, I think how long must I run to burn that off. More than 2 miles? Fuck that I'll drink dessert. Alcohol calories I am happy to burn off =D

July starts in 3 weeks. Rock the body you have now and be proud. You look good in underwear. I imagine a bikini would reveal less ;)

Keep working on eating well 80-90% of the time and exercise. Feel better!

^ Thanks PI. Yeah, thats my problem, I tend to have an "all or nothing" approach to dieting (which is not good). That's part of my mindset I need to change. It's okay to have a few drinks, but not a few drinks AND cheesecake :) Because I know I will not work out long enough to burn it all. So thank you for the advice (and the compliments!).

I had mono back in late Feb\March accompained by a severe sore throat, and I've gotten a few bad sore throats since then. I went to the doctor today and I have tonsilitis :( I'm scheduled to have my tonsils removed on June 17, but now that I'm sick again that will be postponed. Sucks.

On the bright side, not being able to eat anything for a few days will jump-start my weight loss.

Thank you everyone again for your help :D you guys are great, I'm really lucky to have all of your support. And I am proud of each of you for working on your own goals for your body <3
