I have really bad social anxiety. Ive been addicted to klonopin for about a year and i am finally off it. It helped a little bit it would make me so i wasnt scared to be in a social situation but it would slow down my thoughts so i didnt know what to say to someone and i felt like an idiot. I love raves mdma give me complete and utter relief from social anxiety and im able to talk to people very well. Based on that im pretty sure that its stimulants that i need. What would you guys recommend?

if u are overweight you can try for a presciption of bontril pdm, a weight loss med. It helps me emmensely in social settings, but doesnt make me speed so bad that I can't sleep. When U lose weight, of course you gotta switch gears. Also, it isnt illegal and i think it is easier than establishing that u have ADD I would think. I have been thru all those damn social anxiety drugs:

  • benzos; oxazepam, Klonopin, valium - make me tired
  • paxil - made me fat and couldnt lose weight
  • prozac
  • lexapro
  • cymbalta
  • wellbutrin

Nothing but stimulants have worked just the way I needed. Good luck.

Alcohol? lol.

I dunno, Poppy pod tea makes me pretty chatty.. and im pretty anti-social alot of the time.

Well you probably don't want another benzo. Since you like MDMA, maybe an SSRI would work for you.

Citalopram (lexapro), and fluoxetine (prozac) - clean SSRI's
Sertraline (zoloft) - SSRI, with some mild actions on dopamine and sigma receptors
Paroxetine (paxil) - SSRI, with some mild actions on noradrenergic and muscarinic acetycholine receptors

So you can choose whichever one you think would be best for you. Theirs other SSRI's, but you can research that on your own if those listed don't appeal to you. SNRI's like effexor and elavil - aren't as good for anxiety, but still effective.

Theirs also some OTC supplements which are excellent for anxiety.

GABA - only works sublingually. It not only affects the benzodiazepine site (GABAa subunit), but all the other GABA receptors as well - very relaxing. It also increases human growth hormone levels. It's very powerful IME, but I guess it's marketed unknowingly of that because it's only a placebo when taken orally as indicated.

5-HTP or L-tryptophan - a little expensive, but very effective for anxiety. It's more calming than relaxing, so it tackles the anxiety at the mental level, unlike GABA. They are both precursors of serotonin (5-HT), 5-HTP is more potent, but has some cardiotoxicity so isn't reccomended for regular use. L-tryptophan needs to be taken with carbs if taken with protein. Their are lots of co-factors like many B-vitamins and others, which enhance it's effectiveness.

Their are many others like L-theanine, and various herbs, but I don't have time at the moment to list them all.

I wouldn't reccomend alcohol, because it's very harmful and addictive. Poppy pod tea is also very addictive, even more so.

I would rather take stimulants they work so much more for me than depressants. Dont want to take ssris.

qft...nothing like an inflated ego and the urge to talk to anyone who will listen to get over social anxiety.

mesolimibic reward system=1
temporal lobe= 0

Thats exactly why i dont want anything too strong. Ritalin is almost perfect for social anxiety but it still causes that effect. I would rather have a stimulant that doesn't stimulate too much dopamine.

^ Most stimulants rely on dopamine. If no DA, then adrenergic hormones which cause anxiety and aren't pleasant at all, by themselves. Maybe Aniracetam, which is a nootropic (smart drug) and anxiolytic (anti-anxiety), it's anxiolytic mechanism is facilitated by D2/D3 dopamine, nicotinic acetylcholine, and 5-HT2A receptors. Other racetams would probably also be good.

clonidine is worthless for anxiety. Adderall isn't much different from methylphenidate (ritalin), it just has an additional MAOI effect which means even more dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin is released. But serotonin breakdown or reuptake inhibitors aren't helpful for anxiety, before like 2 weeks of usage, until the 5-HT1 receptors are upregulated, and the others downregulated. Most of the other 5-HT receptors are anxiogenic, thus why SSRI's make you feel like crap in the begging of treatment.

Adderall makes me very social if i do very much, so that should do the trick, although if you are looking for legal venues you will have to find a way to get a script. Alcohol also works pretty well, of course. I don't find other depressants make me tht social.

anything is way better than sweating your ass off becasue of anxiety in an office setting where interation is a must.

Actually now that i think about it aniracetam has worked quite well for me in the past. Maybe i will give that another try.

I did not notice if anyone recommended a group of Meds called beta blockers. Beta blockers regulate your heart rate and give you a feeling of calmness. When your heart rate is kept lower it is also much easier to regulate your breathing. It makes you comfortable in stressful situations such as public speaking and they do not make you tired.

Alternatively, you might try Xanax. It does not make you as sleepy as klonopin.

adderall works really well for me in getting rid of anxiety. just make sure not to take too much.

stimulants will make evrything worse in the end.... how about therapy, sports and healthy food?

The maoi antidepressant nardil(phenelzine) may help. Disregulation of neurotransmitter function in the brain plays a key sold in social phobia. This is linked to dopamine, serotonin or gaba dysfunction in most cases. Nardil boosts the levels of all the above three.

^ Are you sure about gaba? Last time I check gaba wasn't a monoamine.
