Pet Peeves

Reality dating shows where after like 10 days 15 women are "so incredibly in love even though I was totally skeptical about being able to fall for someone on a television show!"

Also, really, incredibly awkward people who don't know they are awkward and making everyone uncomfortable with the comment the are making/continuously making.

Also, when I do something awkward...that feeling you get inside...I hate that feeling.

Also, the way the word awkward is spelled. I don't think that is really a pet peeve, just something I don't like.

some poeple lack an awkwardness detection organ

when sports announcers deviate from anouncing and start talking about their opinion on a celebrity/something other than the game, while its still in play. Up the shut fuck and get back to doing your job. Its even worse when this occurs over the radio.

When sport announcers totally know that the athelete just got blasted in the family gems......but they don't want to say it on air.

"Oh wow, looks like he took a hard hit to the...upper thigh"

"Oh that blow is low, his stomach...lower stomach has got to be hurting"

Just admit on TV that the guy took it to the nuts.

The other day I pull up to a Mobil station to get some gas. It was around 3 AM. I had my card ready cause i knew the guy wasn't gonne be there. So i swipe my card, enter my pin, and when i reach for the pump the thing is locked in place with a master lock. What kind of bullshit is that? You leave the card machines running but lock he pumps in place. Every single one. That is my latest per peaves.

I would agree that awkward is apelled rather awkwardly.

And I agree about Alex. He is rather smug sometimes. Let's see how well HE does without the answer card in his hand!

Sports announcers in general. Their constant use of hackneyed cliches makes me want to stab myself in the eye. I cannot think fo specifics at the moment but they say some of the dumbest things imaginable.

Sports in general. Well, I should say spectator sports actually. If people love football/hockey/American football/cricket/whatever so bloody much, why aren't they getting off their fat asses and actually playing the game? Maybe then we wouldn't have such a problem with obesity, or the economic money pit that is professional sport.

I am not sure I understand this one Dave. Most of the people I know who watch (American) football also love to play football. We play every Sunday for several hours.

Your pet peeve isn't with spectator sports, it is with the lazy people who do not exercise and contribute to the obesity epidemic.

I actually have wondered how well he would do...I mean, after all these years, he probably would be pretty smart right?

Well Fjones, I have an issue with many aspects of sports, and professional spectator sports in general. Mostly boiling down to people who have nothing other to contribute to society than being able to throw a ball being paid more than thousands of hard working people at the base of the payscale combined. And the millions of people who are to fat/lazy to play the sports, but watch them religiously, thereby 'justifying' these salaries. I'm not even going to get into the antiquated definition of masculinity that requires that someone be interested in sport to be considered a 'real' man.

People who play for fun, more power to you. People who think that they deserve to be paid tens of millions of dollars a year to play a game, go get a shovel and do some real work.

[/vitriol]

kc-- I don't know if he's all that bright. I seem to recall hearing that he's a bit of a lush, or at least was at one point.

Dave, first of all, I want to say, I agree with you to a certain extent. But, I disagree with you to a certain extent also. Society needs entertainment. The best entertainers are paid handsomely because they are the BEST! They entertain millions of people and provide enjoyment for people's lives. Why are you singling out athletes? The top singers, dancers, actors, directors, writers, all make good money.

The owners of sports teams are all billionaires. Why do you object to their paying the top athletes well? Would you rather hate billionaire owners keep the money instead? Who does that really benefit?

The billionaire owners can afford to pay those salaries because people go to watch the games. If you think athletes make too much money, don't go to the games. I don't (go to the games), because I do not wish to contribute to the high salaries. Btu I still enjoy watching.

I like watching because I enjoy watching people excel at the hobbies I enjoy doing myself.

I don't know ANYONE who thinks people need to be interested in sports to be a "real" man.

I appreciate that. You would be the exception rather than the rule if you were among the 'sporting' people that I've known. I'm happy to agree to disagree with you on this Fjones-- I know that I hold an unpopular opinion.

My new peeve-- not being able to find the answer to a software question in the program's documentation. Especially when the program is MS fucking Excel. Grrr.

Ah, you reminded me of another pet peeve.

Office 2007. I hate everything about it. 'Nuff said.

Agreed. While it's unfair that certain industries are abundantly wealthier than others, and is a justified pet-peeve, in general these people do work crazy hours, train for years, and have some natural talent to do what they do, and it’s a personal pet peeve of mine that sports and the arts (but mostly sports) are always seen as “easier” than academics (I honestly think they are equivalent, completing ten levels of my gymnast program took much more effort, determination, and discipline than getting my high school diploma). Obviously this cannot be applied to EVERYONE, and there are many who have no talent, are somewhat lazy, and do not work hard at all, but for some reason rise to fame or are given great opportunities. However, that aside, from my personal experience I would say any professional athlete trains and practices for years before they get to that point-- and those that do make a large sum of money (and that’s definitely not all, I know salaries greatly differ in the sports teams part, but I couldn’t quote) have to be better and beat out an extremely large amount of people to get there. They also pay for it later in life physically. :|

So I would not say it’s as simple as being paid millions for being able to throw a ball. In regards to those in the entertainment industry, you didn’t comment but I’m already ranting so what the hell! I’ll say that I feel similarly-- it disgusts me to see the Nicole Richies and Paris Hiltons of the world, and reality TV stars period, and while there are many pop singers and actors that have no talent and don't work that hard, those that stay in the industry for any meaningful period and manage to maintain their luxurious lifestyle I think do work hard and have talent. I'm more into sports, but my perception is that all theatre actors have training, work hard, and generally have natural talent and the same in regards to directors and writers (they also push for years and years to get to where they are). In regards to film actors, maybe not so much, but there's still a great amount of them that do as well. I would also point out that people who have seemingly more “legitimate” jobs, such as those in the business industry (CEOS and whatnot) make just as much money, if not more, than many professional athletes, also simply because there is so much money in certain industries (oil and technology being too big ones). Is that wrong? Not necessarily, but I don’t think it’s fair to assume that the guy who invented facebook or myspace, or even Bill Gates works/worked any harder or trained/was educated for any longer than SOME professional athletes (and there are so many people who are just born into that as well).

Anyway, rant aside: I fucking HATE when people don’t use their turn signals and then cut in front of me! It takes one second, do it!

things that are sold at the price of X.99

what the fuck?!

Just make it even, add the extra cent.

I guess it's some marketing technique to make things seems cheaper? fuck that.

If something is 19.99, it's twenty bucks in my book. Why do they minus ONE FUCKING CENT!??!

arghh

^And when people take a LONG ASS TIME to move when the light turns green.

Right now: the fact that I tell myself I'll take a five minute break from my work and go on bluelight... and then somehow two hours go by?
