who is better? do you believe that since Kobe has been around longer and led his team to more championships, MVPs, records broken, etc, that he is a better player than LeBron James? or do you believe that Bron Bron is the next Michael Jordan and he could break Kobe's ankles worst than a drop from a 12 story building?

who do you think would win one-on-one streetball? who do you think will have the most accolades when their carreer is over and done with?

Lebron has a lot to do before even being mentioned in the same breath as Kobe. Until then, it's pretty obvious Kobe is the better player today. He has the rings. He has better shooting range. He has more clutch factor. He is a better defender. Hell...he's even more consistent on the free throw line. Kobe is simply the best all-around player in the league today.

If you want to compare them at the same age, then I guess you could give Lebron the edge, but basically this is a non-argument until Lebron does something with all his hyped talent.

kobe is WAY overhyped. im not saying by any means that he's not VERY good... but if youre scoring 50+ points a game for about 8 or so games in a row (?) then your team should be winning. you cant be considered the best player unless youre the complete package, and when your entire team relies on you to get the job done and you take sole responsibilty, then you havent exactly embraced the team aspect and therefore are a LONG way from being the best.

IMO.

i may have left a few words out... my mistake, the jist of it is... a great player can rock the good stats. an AMAZING PLAYER not only rocks the great stats, but boosts the stats of all those who play with him. kobe is great, people like steve nash are amazing.

That argument against Kobe is such a misconception of what kind of player Kobe is. Do you know why Kobe upped his scoring stats during that stretch? Because his team needed him to do it. They were struggling. They couldn't play defense. Kobe (and any other great player for that matter) can only do so much with a roster that was depleted with injuries and had only inexperience to replace the injured. In the end, the only thing He and Phil Jackson could come up with is for Kobe to just do what he can do, and that's take over the game.

Using Steve Nash as an example is misleading because you have to consider who is on Steve Nash's team. Yes, he did a great job with an Amare-less Suns team last year, and did even better this season with Amare working himself back to 100%, but that team has plenty of talent. The Lakers? A lot of potential-based talent, rather than proven talent...except for Kobe that is...and Lamar on good nights.

Think back to the beginning of the season, when the Lakers were rolling and Kobe was a perfect example of being a great team player and team leader. Unfortunately, Lamar, Kwame Brown, and Luke Walton all went down and never really recovered back to full health for the remainder of the season. It was then the Lakers started to tank, and Kobe's scoring outburst was his attempt to save the season, not to mention to stick it to the NBA for those bogus suspensions.

If you're to examine a player individually for what they are able to do and are capable of every single night, there is no question Kobe Bryant is the best player in the game today, hands down...and the players in the league know it and respect it. Just ask Lebron who he thinks is the best...he'll tell you Kobe, like he's said publicly before.

is the fact that LeBron James is still in the NBA playoffs, and Kobe Bryant is not change anybodys' opinions on who is the better basketball player, and who will be better?

^not when you consider Lebron plays in the Eastern Conference, whereas Kobe plays in the Western Conference. It's quite clear which is the tougher, deeper conference.

The Cavs played the Wizards without Arenas and Butler in the first round, while the Lakers played a heavily-favored team to win the Larry O'Brien Trophy in the Suns. C'mon Axl...you can come up with better. ;)

better question would be has rattled off 6 straight in the playoffs.

first off let me say what it all should boil down to is performance in the playoffs. lebron can win 16 games playing 48 minutes. bron knows how to finish 4th quarters, but I'd rather having kobe shooting my game winner

they can both take over games. but against a tougher playoff defense, kobe can be contained, but bron can straight bull through his way to the line. problem is, he hasn't improved and shoots 70%.

um i dunno, Kobes better, lebron will be better. lebron is gonna dominant. he can play any position. of course he can't gaurd yao ming, the greatest player in basketball

Ten seconds to go, up by one, a chance to put his team up by three . . .

. . . and LeBron bricks his FOURTH free throw (out of six attempts) of the fourth quarter of a crucial play-off game.

Has Kobe *EVER* done that?

Cut to the Cavs huddle during the ensuing time-out, and guess what?

"Bron Bron" is biting his nails again.

Magic, Larry, Isiah, MJ, Kobe and every other superstar guard/small forward RELISHES the end of close play-off games - it's where they elevate themselves and show why they're the all-time greats.

Not only has Lebron NOT shown the killer instinct that every player listed in the above paragraph regularly showed/shows in clutch situations, but from "Bron Bron's" body language in end-of-game huddles, he doesn't seem like he even wants to be there.

The talent is clearly there.

The confidence, killer instinct and clutchness, however, are, so far, severely lacking.

I'm not saying LeBron won't EVENTUALLY become an all-time great . . .

. . . but until he gets that "Everyone in the building knows I'm about to shoot the game-winning shot - they're going to put their best defensive player on me, and will likely even double-team me . . . and I still CAN'T WAIT to win yet another important game at the buzzer by draining this shot in my man's face" clutchness about him, he's just a better version of Tracy McGrady.

ouch poor t-mac. what about his greatest comeback in NBA history, cant he get clutch points for that? vince carter on the other hand...

but looking back at their respective stats at 22, lebron wins categorically, but not by much

now kobe won his first ring in 2000 when he was 22. could bron bron win one this year? if so, surely bron would have made a bigger single impact than kobe did because kobe had shaq

now i agree I'd want kobe taking my last shot. that comes with playoff experience, which kobe has had a ton of

and both of them can take over a game. Kobe can do it for an entire 48 minutes, but I think bron is better over the 12 minutes in the 4th (last game excluded). that comes with youth

so overall, Id pick kobe right now, but bron is going to get a ring, get more confidence, and become the ultimate team leader (has kobe licked on that one)

kobe is a great finesse player, but lebron combines power and finesse. that makes him more versatile and better equiped match-up wise for defeating 4 teams in the playoffs. cant wait till that kid turns 27

Wrong.

Nice points Jeff. I think we can all agree Kobe is clearly the better banana.

Remember that Gatorade commercial where Kobe Bryant dunks on Patrick Ewing, Hitler, Winston Churchill, Sonny Corleone, Darth Vadar and then kicks Ghandi in the groin? That shit was sick.

Lebron James was considered to be the next Michael Jordan. I totally agree. Oh, and no I'm not FROM Ohio....I did live there once upon a time.

you don't have to be from Ohio to realize that LeBron James could surpass Kobe Bryant in accolades concerning basketball.

Haha holy shit please tell me that you aren't just making that up. I would fucking love to see that.

....Such as last night popping a grand total of 3 shots in the 4th and then dishing the last shot of the game out to the perimeter when you're only down by 2.
