Opioids Opioid effect on testosterone

Trynna figure out what the effect of opioids is on testosterone based on frequency of use and dosage. I'm making a run at my sport of choice, and going to see how far I can take it over the next three-four years. Want to decide if it would be better for my performance to completely quit dihydrocodeine for that duration, or if instead I should focus on smoking less weed for my lungs.

Doing a couple lazy google searches, I've found studies quantifying the effect of opioids on testosterone between opioid using population and non-users(something crazy like 50% suppresion of testosterone), but I can't find anything specific in regards to frequency and dosing. I usually take 120mg of DHC every 7-10 days, sometimes with a 60-90mg redose.

Anyone that's read-up on the subject, can you tell me if my current use is enough to have such a significant effect on my testosterone? Really appreciate the input

That’s way better than daily use - you might be fine. I doubt the T depression is extreme. But just get your T level checked! Low T is common these days anyway.

Why is that low t levels these days.?

In Spain is very difficult to have a Test rep. Treatment even if your analyst(the doctor who does the blood test) says that you have a testicular hypofunction and test levels are down. Thats my case so Im very annoyed with my doctor who asked the endocrinologist about my test levels and he said that I dont need any pharma treatment, when I have insomnia and had a 4 years of a false depression. Even doctors dont know that opioids long therm use can cause test levels go down.

Yeah, you might have to get meds on the DNM. Have you tried any SERMs like clomiphene? That’s better than going directly to exogenous testosterone, which negatively affects fertility.

Did you try anything else first and if so, why not? Any side-effects and what benefits have you noticed?

No i went right to test since its the first thing my doctor mentioned. Also i was trying to put on muscle at the time so why not anyway?

Ive been on it since october i think and so fr no side effects. As far as benefits i have way more energy now, i put on about 10lbs of muscle since going on it and my sex drive went through the roof because of it

Not if HCG is used

Are you concerned about your fertility?

I really dont want kids so no. Besides lots of guys on test stll have kids i dont think it does it to everyone
From what I’ve seen, it can be reversible, especially with medication. I just hope you don’t change your mind! A lot of young men think they don’t want kids, but then they get older or meet the right woman…

Another thing to consider is what if you suddenly can’t get it anymore, due to the supply issues or a solar flare or some other type of collapse of civilisation? Ideally, you know how to maximise your natural T production if necessary, without meds. But maybe you’re doing that already and only taking the smallest amount of exogenous T necessary.

Ei thanks for the advice. My levels should be alright for now just based on everyday indicators and the fact I'm under 30. I won't be low if I get tested, just don't want to sabotage myself too much from the max my body could be at, you know what I mean?

Doses of that size and at that dosing interval should have no impact on testosterone levels. Or any hormone for that matter. Or, at least no measurable impact. What you're reading about is called opioid-induced androgen deficiency, and it only occurs with chronic, long-term usage of opioids.

But even then it's not necessarily assured. When I was on 380mg/day of methadone, my testosterone was in the 600ng/dl range. Granted I was young. That said, off of opioids my testosterone levels naturally ranged in the slightly supraphysiological level (like slightly over 1200ng/dl). High testosterone runs in my family, and correspondingly, so does prostate cancer (it killed my grandfather in his late 50s). Fortunately, unlike my grandfather, I don't seem to convert my testosterone to dihydrotestosterone at a significant rate, so i have a full head of hair. My doctor once said, "it's a miracle you're not bald"

Anyway, nothing to worry about.
