I don't like going to the mall anymore. I don't like going to Walmart. I don't like going to church. There are so many pretty girls there and I can't do anything about it. I have no libido and sexual dysfunction.

Hello everyone,

I’ve been reading through this thread for a few months now, following along with your experiences. I deeply sympathize with you all and resonate with the self-perception that many of us seem to share after being affected by paliperidone.

In my case, I was given initial doses of paliperidone in December 2023, after an involuntary admission to the psychiatric unit of a hospital. I received a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia following a prolonged psychosis/manic episode related to temporary cannabis use. I was injected again in February and March, but I’ve since stopped all antipsychotic medication. That marks about seven months off paliperidone now.

Emotionally, I no longer feel as “flat” as I did initially. The generalized anhedonia has become milder over time, although musical anhedonia still affects me, albeit to a lesser degree. My mind remains blank most of the time, with hardly any ideas or imagination like I once had. My attention span and memory feel significantly damaged, and I have very little initiative or willpower—though some of these issues existed on a smaller scale before the injections. Libido and sexual function have improved by roughly 30%, and my overall mood is also about 30% better.

I wanted to reach out and ask: for those of you who have been off Invega for months, has depression become part of your experience? Do you feel that the negative symptoms associated with schizophrenia overlap with the effects of paliperidone, potentially “hooking” people onto this medication in some way in case they wanted to get off of it, blaming the sickness?

I think after psychosis there is a depressive phase, and I also think the meds induce same side effects too. So it's a double whammy.

I've 4.5 months off now and I'm doing significantly better than I was in the beginning. Still a long way to go but I feel confident that invega caused a lot of my issues, particularly the strange shift in my state of consciousness. Now at the point I'm at it feels more like how I felt after my first episode some years ago.

Get your testosterone levels checked. I am now on testosterone replacement therapy and im pretty sure its because i was on invega and abilify for about a year and a half or 2 years. I didnt get it up once when i was on either of those poisons. Once i got off the abilify though my sex drive came back after about 3 months or so.

However i didnt know i had low test levels until i got it checked about a month and a half ago. Ive been on testosterone now for about 3 weeks and my sex drive is even higher then it was before. So far im not getting any side effects from it either.

I would honestly recommend any guys that have been on invega, abilify or other depot injections to get their test levels checked. I know doctors tend to sugarcoat just how often antipsychotics can cause low test levels. Ive had doctors say it has a very low chance of causing it but from what i have seen thats not the case at all

@Ayden if I'm not mistaken from reading through the threads you recovered from invega before? Now you're doing the same for haldol? Does it feel the same for both time frame wise to you? Anything feel different this time?
Hi sorry I just saw this. With invega I felt fine 7 months after last injection. With haldol I'm almost 9 months off and feel horrible from one tiny 10mg shot. I imagine 10mg going to the brain instantly is not good tho.

Haven't you been on the threads since 2015?

So your saying your natural desire for sex is back? You can get an erection from looking at women?

My sex drive was already back to normal once i got off the abilify injections but now since ive gone on testosterone my sex drive is back 110%. I can get it up no problemo even when im on high doses of morphine

Mine came back like before. You will heal.
My sex drive came back too.
She says she completely healed after 17 months

I think that’s about time we need to heal our sex drive and other side effects.

I’m returning to normal and I can feel that I am recovering. We just need time.

My sex drive started to come back after about 3 months off abilify. I had previous to this been on Invega and my sex drive on that was also 0. It took maybe 6 months off abilify injections for my sex drive to fully come back.

I have hope

Give it some time and it will come back. Honestly i thought the erectile dysfunction i had was going to be permanent at first thats how bad i had it. Sex was the last thing on my mind on invega and abilify. Also being overweight did not help me either. It started to slowly come back after about 3 months and probably came back fully after about 6 months.

However i managed to go from being 225lbs of fat to 200lbs of mostly muscle by lifting weights like a motherfucker. I also started taking testosterone so i should see good results from that to s i had low test levels.

It's the injections that cause major depression, I've never experienced depression like that, psychosis or no psychosis, it's the medication that makes me depressed, I have major depression, it goes away with time

So your saying your natural desire for sex is back? You can get an erection from looking at women?
With the alcohol injections I never lost my ability to get an erection but the problem was desire and orgasm and semen that is greatly improved, Ayden you have to take medication during your convalescence it's not possible
