Trump shot

In the rest of the world, what is called progressive (socialist, by Trumpers) here in America would be called centrist. Your run of the mill Dem would be called center right.

smokeymcpot, the only problem with communism is that it places too much power into the hands of the gubment. So then, corruption can creep in much more easily, almost inevitably. 'Course, the capitalist system is based on corruption from the get go, so what's a mother to do? I don't have an answer. One of the scariest things going on right now is the crumbling of our checks and balances in the face of the imperial Presidency. Our separation of powers might just be the only real key which has kept us a functioning democracy all these years. Too much power in one spot is never a good thing.

That is the exact question I was posing alright. Capitalism bad. Communism, well on paper but like you say *and I presume know more* than I.

So is it time to invent a new system? Would there even be a point or anyone to pitch it to?

Lol. Don't know about "knowing more". But I do know that the right calling everything Socialism now to scare people is BS. I don't see the workers owning the means of production just yet. How about we get some of the guardrails in place that we used to have just to start. Anti-trust laws have been a joke for years.

"We wish to control big business so as to secure among other things good wages for the wage-workers and reasonable prices for the consumers. Wherever in any business the prosperity of the business man is obtained by lowering the wages of his workmen and charging an excessive price to the consumers we wish to interfere and stop such practices."
Roosevelt

Teddy Roosevelt, not FDR, a Republican (imagine that)

Some kind of system like Social Democracy as has been suggested by someguyontheinternet might be a goal. Standard of living and social equity in Europe is way better.

you seem to be a pretty learn-ed fella. Haha I GED'd into college. (ok I got my diploma but AFTER I took the GED, theres a diploma thread somewhere where I clarify)

Yea I know that much as well. Empathy = Socialism!!! I do really do not understand that group. I understand not liking democrats but not choosing republicans instead lol.

Social Democracy-- suprise they didn't teach us about that one in public school or gov 101... I will have to make myself familiar.

Its strange to me that people are convinced that socialism is even bad in the first place. The basic idea is that instead of profits going to shareholders they go to the workers actually making the product or performing the service

People are very easily convinced that those "other people" (migrants, etc) are the cause for the woes of the working person rather than the capitalist overlords extracting wealth from the labor of the workers
Agreed 100%
It's "farming people", I've heard it described as.

Damn it I live on a farm. I am all of the republican stereotypes except rich it seems *and most of them aren't dont let em fool you*

tech illiterate, gun rights supporting, straight white man on a farm. Still ZERO APPEAL. Id say I wish there were migrant workers here but idk about that either. (they are treated very poorly my most around here)

Beau of the fifth column - edumicated and insightful (and country)

The "liberal redneck" - funny

Dood. I grew up on a farm, worked over the river in Kentucky for 30 years, and I'm blue collar as hell.
Even Kentucky, one of the reddest of red states voted 36% for Biden in 2020. Democrats do exist in the wild in these environments. Might be a little quieter.
(Now... is a red state redneck or Russian red?)

I'm still wondering why that sniper position wasn't covered. The secret service really screwed up on that one.

Lmao. Nobody hates the media enough

I thought for sure I’d come in here with everyone strategizing about where to buy MAGA hats and T-shirts from and how to act appropriately for the next four years.

Hey… when in Rome !! 🤷‍♂️

So like I really want to hear from everyone. I’ve been busy trying to establish myself halfway across the country so I’m not homeless and all that boring noise. Haven’t had a ton of time to do a deep dive in politics.

I hated Trump. Search my posts and admin etc knows how I’ve voted when I was a mod here.

But when the secret service fucks up so bad, how does that not humanize Trump?

I’ve been through some insane shit in my life, but fuck it if I don’t say okay enough is enough. Extreme progressive liberals have fucking destroyed this country, and if you don’t believe this, then let’s chat here instead of reporting me lol.

Civil debates like our democracy and constitution was setup to do.

I still think the extreme right wing conspiracy theorists are even more crazy (yeah, you know who I mean if you’re still trolling around)

But fuck. Like. Fuck!! There are no good options here honestly.

"Bianco told the Southern California News Group on Sunday that he believes Miller — who he said is a member of a right–leaning anti-government group — planned to kill Trump and that deputies thwarted the plan when Miller presented fake VIP and press passes at a checkpoint.

“They were different enough to cause the deputies alarm,” Bianco said. “We probably stopped another assassination attempt.”"

Miller is a registered Republican who holds a master’s degree from UCLA, and who ran for state assembly in Nevada in 2022.

If companies are supposed to give the workers a part of the business, due to their working and producing a product, what are stock options and benefits where depending on certain policies/guidelines, a person can leave a company or retirement with a nice piece of the business they worked for. Each company or corporation is different. The thing about capitalism is the choice one has to change their circumstances and to have the freedom to be self-made. No one said things are ever easy, but if every business worked on a socialist or communist basis, how is profit going to be created?

The thing that many do not get is that the reason this nation is so wealthy is that corporations and businesses generate jobs. The problem is that many skilled labor workers are skilled at only one thing, so it is hard to get another job when a company which employed an entire town leaves the country or goes out of business. Unions are a top cause of complete industries are failing or leaving.

Everyone has their hand out or is bitching constantly about politicians who will never be able to help anyone, nor care. The more government gets bigger, the more many want to rely on it. Rely on yourselves -- The government abandoned the citizens after the Bomb was created. Every man for himself. We have to rely on ourselves and quit bitching and talking about everything. We need to close in ranks and fucking forget about the government. It will be too late if we don't.

We need to close in ranks and fucking forget about the government.
Probably not wise to forget about the IRS and to ignore law enforcement. And who's going to provide infrastructure? Also, who do you expect to organize and run the military? What about state governments and local municipal governments? Do we forget about them, too, or just forget about the federal government? Or are we going full-on political anarchy?

Rely on yourselves
So you're saying I don't have to pledge allegiance to the flag of Amazon.com and to the corporepublic for which it stands, one corporation, under Bezos, with Amazon Prime and Justice for all? Blasphemy! Heretic! Lol

It isn't as easy as saying "rely on yourselves" and foregoing the government entirely. I'm for the market and making a profit, I just think some things shouldn't be left to the profit incentive, like education and healthcare, because they benefit all of us. I don't have any children and don't plan to have them, but I still care about the education system and will pay taxes to support it because it improves the society around me. I think society is better off the smarter we all are, the more educated and well informed the average citizen is, and the better we can educate and prepare future generations for this world.

if every business worked on a socialist or communist basis, how is profit going to be created?
Profit is created by the business being profitable. The question is how should the owner's equity be divided and how should profit dividends be shared? There's a tendency in crapitalism for things to become adversarial between employers and employees, and between buyer and seller. Those who control goods and the means of production will oppress those who work for them unless regulation is put in place to prevent this. Power corrupts and greed is rampant in the corporate world, after all. Politicians have different approaches to these regulations, but they all advocate for forms of regulation and/or tariffs & taxes.

the reason this nation is so wealthy is that corporations and businesses generate jobs.
That's reductionist to say. The U.S. is wealthy because it has abundant natural resources, a stable political system, a well developed judicial system, a strong tradition of upholding property rights which has encouraged corporate growth, technical innovations both by govt. and industry, entrepreneurial spirit, and global economic leadership where the U.S. dollar is the world's reserve currency, giving the U.S. an advantage in international trade and finance.

To be clear though: the U.S. is not a uniformly wealthy nation. There are significant disparities in wealth and income across different groups of people.
