I have been taking 20mg of zyprexa/olanzapine for 40 days. It has been a month since I cold turkey this drug. After better educating myself of this drug it became clear that I may have had to taper it. I am wondering if there is risk in going back to a low dose for a couple weeks and gradually lowering the dose from there. Am i risking more by doing that?

No that sounds like a good idea if your still getting wd effects. You do indeed need to taper antipsychotics
I feel like I have come a long way since I decided to stop taking it... maybe 40 days is not enough of a duration to warrant tappering, although I have not seen any posts similar to my situation... I did however see some posts warning about potential risks on resuming medication a month after CT without stating what exactly those risks are. unsure

If you are 40 days off you may be better not starting the meds again. What where you taking it for anyway? You do have to worry about your original symptoms coming back though

I was taking it to counter benzo widthrawal which in retrospect sounds stupid. It became obvious that zyprexa had significant side effects that where worse to my day to day life.

I wouldnt recommend anyone taking antipsychotics for benzo wd. That would make the symptoms worse if anything. Well atleast you dont have to worry about psychosis or anything coming back so you might be better off just staying off the zyprexa

watch out for the olanzapine with samidorphin (naloxone analog) if you are addicted to opis; you will go straight into precip.

If you have already been off of the meds for a month and didn't have any serious complications, I think you should be fine to just not take it. Taking it again wouldn't do anything for you, it's already probably completely out of your system, or just about.

Just keep in mind for the future, when getting off of most psychiatric drugs, it is best practice to taper at least a little bit and not drop anything suddenly.

I do still have some problems, I used to sleep better, now I cant sleep more than a couple of hours. When I wake up I always get lots of negative thoughts all at once raicing through my mind.

Im not doing any opioids
I didn't figure you were. I just find it very insidious they are putting naloxone and samidorphan in weight loss and depression medication... according to them to control weight gain. (last thing in the toolbox I would pick for that).

Ah, I see. Well keep in mind that benzo withdrawal takes a very long time. It takes a while for your brain to reset after being on benzos for a long period. Post acute withdrawal symptoms are very real and common with benzos. What was the dose of benzos you were on and how long were you on them for? And how long have you been off of them?

i am still on benzos now. I discontinued antipsychotics however. Thats what is causing the sleep problem at the moment not benzo wd. I am taking clonazepam 1mg for years.

Sounds like that may be a rebound issue, many people use Antipsychotics like olanzapine and quetiapine for sleep aids in low doses, they are also very powerful antihistamines. It should clear up with some time and a regular sleep schedule. If you find yourself unable to sleep at night, don't sleep all day to make up for it. Just keep a regular schedule for getting up and sleeping. That's the best way to get your circadian rhythm back on track. If you're tired, try your best to just stay up until it is your regular bed time. Obviously be wary of doing this if you're driving or operating machinery, don't want to do those things if you're dead tired. In general you should be very careful with things like that when struggling with insomnia, the lack of sleep can cause some serious issues when you least expect it.

Things like melatonin, valerian, and ashwaghanda can help with sleep. I would advise against using anything stronger for a sleep aid as this will just cause the same issues when discontinuing.
