I know it's hard to admit that you were duped and the conspiracy theorists were right, but the quicker you do this the faster you will heal.

'Their' infectious existence. 'Their' rapid mutation rates. I bet you didn't even spot the contradiction in language here. Projecting identity, agency, on to viruses through the language itself when as has already been stated in this thread that viruses are not living organisms by definition. Shouldn't be referring to them with agency,

This is exactly why I referred to the dictionary definition for adaptation, and not some biased biology text (or even worse, Wikipedia). The dictionary definition has to be succinct and with clarity, no room for distortion and bias.

All living organisms possess basic programming, right down to microbes. Fundamentally that boils down to curiosity i.e. motivation. If organic life did not possess this inherent programming it would never have gotten past the very first single cell lifeforms, because as per physics everything tends towards inertia. There has to be inherent programming, motivation. Regardless of what the Darwinian's and atheists believe, life isn't just purely mechanical. It certainly appears to behave mechanically (the 'how'), but that does not explain the 'why'.
 
You're grasping at straws in phrasing to try and refute a point that you don't seem to understand. Viruses undergo evolution due to selective pressures. Giving them agency or not doesn't matter because it's describing things that happen not agents doing things, that's a really weird perspective to have in the sciences.

Not to mention your interpretation of the use of "their" is totally wrong anyhow, "those, them, their" are perfectly fine to use when discussing inanimate objects and the word "their" gives an association of a property to a system such as a virus.

Applying a general dictionary definition to biological terms is a misapplication of language and a nonsense argument. You're arguing semantics when the words are already defined in the literature by multiple fields of biological sciences which is ridiculous.

The why is energy input into the system, that is why biochemical reactions happen. That's why biomolecules formed around thermal vents on the sea floor but again that doesn't even matter here because you're attempting to argue that a whole field of science is somehow using words wrong and that somehow means the conclusions are wrong.

It's completely unhinged

As Mal said, this forum is extremely lightly moderated. Almost anything goes. If you've been around BL for a while, you'd know that is pretty anomalous here. But there are limits that the banter and shit talking can reach and then we need to reel it back in. And honestly, you and the groupmind may be having fun, but isn't it boring having the same quality of discussion all the time? Anyway, each to their own. But yeah, I think you can deal with the lightest touch moderating possible (which amazingly annoys both sides of politics equally! 😃)
