2024 US Presidential Election

Yea the whole overthrowing the government thing is pretty serious issue with trump.

But trump didn’t do that by himself so I don’t think it’s fair to excuse the rest of republicans from what trump spearheaded

The Republican Party was complicit and as a whole they attempted to trash the constitution. Trump could die tonight and republicans are going to try it again without him

You're absolutely right. I guess my point is, would we be here today if someone like, say, Desantis, got elected in 2020? Would we be so unhinged as a society? Sure, we would be dealing with an authoritarian who wants to ban books and stuff. But would we be dealing with the threat of violent insurrection and worrying about the day when various heavily armed alt right groups all decide it's time for civil war v2?

I agree with that. These people were waiting for an opportunity. But for whatever reason, Trump laid down the yellow brick road for them. My concern is that perhaps that road gets upgraded to an interstate highway if Trump gets elected again. Or maybe even if he gets all the focus on him again and a chance to get elected, and loses. Or if he gets arrested for his crimes. But what if he never got elected in the first place? Maybe we'd have found ourselves here in 4, 8, 12, 16 years, or maybe not. But here we are, and although we certainly have to condemn the opportunists who jumped on his bandwagon, we also have to recognize the damage he caused was. And what potential there is for more damage yet to come, if we even give him the stage again.

Seems like shit is going slow this round. I mean we are like 18 months from Election Day... usually there are 15 candidates by now.

I was really, really hoping for a crowded RNC primary. Right now it seems like they're all pussy ass bitches with their tails betwixt their legs afraid to say one mean thing about the orange jumpsuit man :(

^ i think the republicans had a golden opportunity to decouple from trump in the wake of jan 6th and the recent midterms and they're so terrified of losing the trump base votes they couldn't do it.

and there's is a parallel with the democrats too. as i said elsewhere recently, biden is a poor candidate. the democratic party needs to get real about long term success - they need young, smart leaders like buttigieg and they need to campaign on policy and ideas and refuse to play the power-at-any-cost game that drives washington politics. they may not win the next election, or even the next two or three elections, but they create a party with a soul, a clear platform and a plan for getting it done.

running biden is driven by fear of losing in 2024 and they need to be much bolder than that.

It's been fucking hilarious watching Republican candidates like Haley when they're asked why Republican primary voters should vote for them instead of for Donald Trump. Some of them seemingly have trouble finding a single policy that they substantially disagree with him on! :ROFLMAO:

What is the significance or implications of this?
I was just looking through random studies earlier and thought it would be worth posting with us heading into another presidential election

I couldn't find any threads to post it in and thought about posting it in that "will democrats run Biden again" thread but that's about democrats so I posted it over here so it's more neutral

"Bidens got 1850 boxes and, yknow, that's a hoax..."

wtf is Trump talking about lol?

Also, I love how every phone call Trump has is a "perfect phone call" lol. Also the poetic imagery of big tough cops and, uh, prison guards I guess in Trump's rendering...? breaking down into tears at the sight of our poor embattled former president being persecuted unjustly

That was so over the top... cringey as fuck.

I bet within an hour or so of him saying that, he actually believes it now, too.

Donald Trump is like if a delusional schizophrenic who believed he was Jesus traveled to the Vatican, won the lottery prize, and got to be the honorary pope for a week.

Do you think it would make their delusions less severe? No.
