Hardly anybody wants to "ban guns."

Gun control means things like background checks, red flag laws, age restrictions, waiting periods, and limiting access to automatic or semi-automatic weapons.

For instance-- we can't trust an 18-year-old with a beer but a gun is OK. Does that make sense?

And well, if you've never experienced something, how can you know you're missing out?

I just mean I'm happy here in Texas, maybe other Southern states if I did move. Never gonna live on a coast again.

but you can see why your whole gun buying process is a little out of control right?

Arguably yes, it's too loose here in Texas and other states. I can sell any of my guns to a stranger without paperwork and that's legal, I'm not comfortable with that. I can buy guns the same day, that's fine I think if someone gets a license to carry (as you have to go through fingerprinting, etc.), but not great that anyone and everyone can purchase a gun the same day. So yeah I think universal background checks and some degree of waiting periods would both be beneficial without causing undue burden. Getting my LTC took me a few days of spare time and then a few months waiting on it in the mail, which is plenty enough to vet someone in 99.99% of situations I feel. I don't agree with the permit-less carry they enacted here (and other states such as Kansas did it way before we did) and think if you're gonna carry you should be licensed. I do believe in a 'shall issue' law towards licenses, as the idea of some biased person getting to arbitrarily pick who does and doesn't get a license sickens me and goes against everything I believe in. So anyone who applies for their LTC should get it so long as they pass certain checks, as it is now technically. There's still many places I can legally carry in Texas that non-licensed folks can't, it's so confusing I've always just thought fuck it, I'll get as licensed as can be. It's also technically illegal to leave firearms in the reach of children in Texas but I never see anyone being prosecuted, and I'd like that to change.

I can never get behind the banning or limiting of anything though, except in the obvious cases of felons and other violent delinquents. I honestly think the 1986 law banning automatic weapons was unconstitutional and feel our rights are already deeply infringed because we can't buy everything that the police or military could. What I said above encapsulates most of what I think could be positive changes to gun laws that would help reduce casualties while not infringing any further upon the rights of average people.

I can get behind everything you mentioned in this post, save for the fully auto statement. lol. You do realize that everything you mentioned in the first paragraph is a form of gun control, right? So why are all the other people who have boners for 2A so adamant in not accepting ANY form of commons sense gun control? I'm not calling you a 2A boner type, but many Texans and daily carriers are.

Like sure, regulation might certainly decrease the TOTAL amount of weapons around, but it wouldn’t stop the fact that people would still have em and use them wrong.

Black markets feed off regulation. The more regulated, the more some people find other ways to get them. Especially if they have a motive such as malicious intent.

The problem with this logic is that alcohol and drugs are for the most part an issue that affects the user more than other people. I'm not saying there aren't exceptions, like drunk drivers killing people or fentanyl laced drugs killing. But that does not account for the massive amount of people charged and locked up for simple possession or possession with supposedly intent to distribute. Regular everyday drinkers and addicts aren't harming anyone as much as themselves.

Guns on the other hand, by their very nature, have no other utility than death. This fact is undeniable. Yes there are lots of suicides with guns, but over 200 mass shootings since the New Year? C'mon. No amount of mental gymnastics can justify this.
