Noticing people in their cars while they're alone and still wearing masks, and then judging them for it isn't an obsession or a testament to being brainwashed. Wearing masks while alone is abnormal. Lots of people will continue to judge people that do so, judging them as gullible and neurotic people.

People either forget to take them off or can't be bothered to for a few minutes while they drive.

But still, not the same as calling someone brainwashed for something as incredibly mundane as wearing a mask in a car.
