If it was Britain that Russia was invading, would we all do nothing while saying "this is unacceptable" and patting ourselves on the back for caring?

I love the west. I love my country. We aren't shit. Nobody cares. That's human nature. We care about ourselves. Then our next of kin. Then their next of kin. And so on, and so forth.

We only care about others because we can see ourselves in them. Selfishness is the foundation of empathy. That's why people are racist and sexist. It is also why we don't like eating monkey flesh.

The further something is from us, the less we care.

Ukraine is sufficiently far for me.

Call me a monster.

Out of respect for Ukrainians, I'm not going to pretend to care while doing nothing to help them.

If Australia was in the same position, Ukrainians wouldn't do anything to help us either.

That's just the way shit is. I have accepted it.

Civvies being targeted, i care about all wars, have a young son , did 2 tours in korea, a tour in Afghanistan, hes 7 yrs in and 26 , and hes making it his career, good chance of losing him, but yeah ,,,,oh i better slow my roll, you dont care
 
I have an emotional response to people being mistreated, same as you, but I am aware of the hypocrisy and I'm not in denial about my part.

If this was Britain or Italy or France or Australia or Canada, we wouldn't be putting sanctions on Russia. Why?

Do we care less (relative to other countries) about Ukraine... or do we not?

Actually I see it not one bit as punishment in the traditional sense, because for example climbing mountains or training for marathons can be "punishing".

I see pure orchestration, fate, inevitabilty, plan. Don't know what the plan is.

But I don't see the divine at short fuse boiling to deal out retribution.

I'm living purely in the day anyway, time is ridiculously stretched out.

Does anyone actually want to equalize everything (GDP, health care, resources, blah) across the globe?

We all constantly complain that everything is too expensive (see the CEPS thread: "everything is expensive" for example) but at the same time we have high speed internet on our phones and we care about people not being able to afford to eat?

The left criticizes the right, as if it is any different.

I wonder: if those who identify as left (in the western world) had the option to liquify their assets along with the rest of the world... would they do it?

If white privilege exists, let's get rid of it... but let's make it optional.

People who identify as privileged should do something about it.

In Australia, companies increasingly say a disclaimer before doing anything. It goes something like this: "We acknowledge that this is traditionally aboriginal land."

This is like stealing someone's TV. Then they come knock on your door and say WTF. And you say, sorry mate, I acknowledge that's your TV. They stand there for a second, and you close the door.
