I’m sorry if I jumped protocol. I already posted a question before introducing myself here.
I’m just a patient whose been on quite a lot of very strong drugs for 3 months since having a major surgery and find myself having to go cold turkey.

I’m not sure if im posting this right but I need help. I’ve read through a lot of threads but didn’t quite find a situation like mine.
I had a precancerous tumor removed from my pancreas. I lost half of my pancreas and parts of my spleen went necrotic. Then I had complications. Pockets of fluid, collapsed lung, pneumonia, 3 stent placements ……you get the idea. It’s been a pretty rough 3 months.
Through this all the doctors kept me pretty well medicated. The first month fentanyl patches, 15mg Roxicodone every 4 hours, 10mg oxycodone every 6 hours.
I’m off the fentanyl patches for 2 months now. But I find myself taking 180mg/day of oxycodone now. I have run out of the prescriptions since Friday evening and feel TERRIBLE. I can’t get my refills until Monday.
But…..I really don’t want to be on all these pain pills anymore. Especially after seeing how you feel so BAD when you miss taking them.
PLEASE, I need help.
I have Ativan, Clonidine, Loperamide, Lyrica and Gabapentin (full prescriptions) at my disposal. What can I take and starting at what dose to get through this? Thanks in advance.

Good morning. You didn't jump protocol. Matter of fact more than 90% of people that come here don't introduce themselves so I would say that you did just fine ! More than fine. You did great.

Welcome to Bluelight. Will your Dr. not refill your pain meds and does he think that 90 days was long enough? You can get comments here and you can also make a thread in The Dark Side or health and Recovery if you want more views and help.

Sounds like you are going to need an alternate plan as cold turkey sounds awful. So what's going on? :bear:

It’s coming on 3 months and I’m 90% sure he won’t be refilling the prescriptions. The hospital where I had my surgery already doesn’t like to prescribe opiates but decided because of my type of surgery and my complications it was needed.
I will ask him Monday to refill them but he’ll probably refuse with no taper or anything. I’ve seen them do this to my mom and dad and others before.

Welcome to BL.

Even if they don't refill you the good news is you have some decent tools to help. Do you live in the US? Is kratom available to you?
Yes. I live in the US. No, I don’t have access to kratom and must admit I don’t know much of anything about it.

Unless you live in one of the 2 states where it is banned it can be found in almost any headshop/vape shop/ even gas stations

it's a plant with opioid effects, it will certainly help to some extent if you can find some

loperamide will help some of the physical withdrawal symptoms and the other 3 will take the edge off and help you sleep

Sounds like you have plenty of comfort meds. more than enough to get you through. Your'e going to miss the pain meds but maybe not. They may refill as you sound like you still need them.

Worst case scenario you do have other good meds in your stash. Try not to freak out until you see if Monday you will get your refills. It may still be okay.

I’ve tried going without to see where my baseline pain is and I still feel like I need them. Maybe not as much or as strong though. But this hospital is notorious for cutting patients off cold turkey. I’ve had minor surgery in the past and after 4 weeks they cut me off cold. So I know what they’re capable of.
Maybe I’m panicking because I’m feeling so rotten. I still have a stent inside draining fluid that isn’t scheduled for removal for 2 more weeks. I’ve been without my pain meds for a whole day now and it really sucks.

Well....if you were taking 180 mgs of oxy a day I can see why. You are in WD's.

I'm not saying that you didn't need it just that it's a lot of oxy per day. All you can do is take your Lyrica and ativan and hold on until Monday. If he refills....you are golden. If he doesn't just keep taking those other meds you mentioned that you have as they will comfort you and make wd's easier.

43 is still fairly young. Docs probably think 3 months pain meds is long enough. If you were 63 he might extend them and if you were 23 you probably wouldn't have gotten 3 months worth. Our bodies rate of healing depends a lot on our age.

Don't panic. See what Monday brings. But if you get refilled don't take that much oxy as you will run out and I'm pretty sure he isn't prescribing that much. I hear ya though why you are taking that much. Oxy is damn good and it's hard not to eat them like candy.

I was desperate yesterday and decided to try my Clonidine prescription. .3mg. I think it was too strong. I became disoriented, dry mouth, blurry vision and then I basically passed out. Woke up several hours later. I didn’t like the feeling.
