Changing the political "climate" is indeed a worthwhile goal. (As was discussed a few pages back in this thread).
However, a lot of times I see people say that and then follow it up with, "so how are we going to get through to those brainwashed pro-vax sheep or those selfish anti-vax monsters?" If you're serious about that goal, and it's not just another talking point in a thread full of them, you need to get outside that framework, look within and not just treat other people as pawns in your political game. That's how I feel anyway...a good practical first step would be to recognize the GOOD, positive aspects of your interlocutor's worldview...for "anti vax", a desire for freedom and autonomy, for "pro vax" a belief in collective action to stymie the progression of a deadly disease
Someone said that there's no way to completely overcome "division", and that's certainly true. Ever since the dawn class society and scarcity there has existed "division", and there's no way to completely overcome it just by singing kumbaya and holding hands or whatever. But at the same time the situation can and SHOULD be improved (in opposition to those who have capitalized upon division and sell it to consumers the same way that tobacco companies sell cigarettes to addicts), and if you're real about that it'll involve more work than simply shaking your head in disbelief that this massive group of people who you don't want, or to care to understand, is so "intolerant" or "divisive" and can't arrive at your destination of reasoned and tolerant understanding (which in practice simply means discarding whatever beliefs they held in the past and adopting your beliefs)
