There are definitely people dying from this virus, I've lost two in my extended family. But as far as dangerous pandemic viruses go, this one is pretty mild, especially Omicron. We're really fucked if there is a substantially more deadly virus.
Personally I think it's time to stop being so scared and keeping things shut down. This new variant is a lot less deadly. Everyone who wanted to get vaccinated has had plenty of time to and probably already has been. It's not going away, it's just something we're going to have to deal with now so there has to be a point in time where we say alright, let's get back to normal, those who choose to not protect themselves take that risk on themselves. I'm gonna keep masking indoors in public because why not, it's obvious it reduces viral load and it's super easy to do and costs me nothing. I have no problem with indoor public mask mandates in fact. But I'm not going to be afraid to live my life and I think lockdowns are not productive anymore. I mean it's not locked down where I am, it barely ever even was, there hasn't been one point in time I haven't been able to go where I wanted to go (other than the business and music venue closures for a while which did affect me as a musician but it's been a while since then), though I did voluntarily lock down earlier in the pandemic. But I know in some places they're still doing it and I don't see how it's really going to help. It'll still be there afterwards, like the flu. We'll probably have waves of covid every winter.
