I got up close with a bunch of kangaroos today. They're such lovely, stupid animals. I live pretty far out of town, so sometimes we see them hopping down major roads.
Kangaroos aren't like deer. They don't get caught in the headlights and freeze. They run alongside your car, then look directly at you and hop out in front.
Kangaroos will fuck your car up. They aren't suicidal. They're just stupid. They are like dodo birds. Completely oblivious. You have to look out for them (when you're on the road) around dusk and dawn.
Wild kangaroos can spook easily. It depends where you are. They can also be super tame.
I stayed in this cottage in a National Park in Tasmania once and all of the wallabies and the possums came up to us when we were sitting on the porch and we fed them by hand. It was like a 1930's Disney cartoon.
I was walking down a bush track today and a kangaroo was hopping down the side of the track alongside us.
I saw maybe thirty of them, just hanging out in the bush. I could walk right up to them. There was no fear in their eyes.
There's something really majestic seeing these bizarre creatures hop down major suburban roads as the sun rises.
I love nature. The only thing that keeps me going is knowing that one day I will buy a farm and live somewhere removed from all this shit where lockdowns don't matter and neither do politics.
