Police Brutality Thread

@Pumpkin2021

Yeah, but he's not going to get a fair trial. It's impossible at this point. Just look at some of the comments in this thread. There's too much pressure to convict. Reasonable doubt exists in this situation. If the victim was white, Chauvin would be less likely to be convicted of murder... Having read an excerpt of Tobin's testimony, it appears as if the pressure influenced his expert opinion also. If he says anything other than Chauvin definitely killed him, he'll be crucified.
I don't agree. I believe the man will get a fair trial. Everything in life is biased. Everything. Chauvin acted the ass and wanted to be the man. He probably thought he could hide behind the City of Minneapolis or be favored at trial because of the millions the family received in compensation. He denied Floyd due process and endangered his life and ultimately killed him because of HIS actions. There is no bias in the video of his death nor in the Autopsy report.

@Pumpkin2021
He is probably guilty of manslaughter.

Let me guess... I may get a response like this:

Yep. I'm not fond of people extrapolating "implied" opinions from things I say.

I don't know if Chauvin intentionally murdered him. It's possible. I don't believe he did, based on the evidence I've seen, but nobody knows. Also, nobody knows how he died.

I clearly said I don't think he had an overdose. So, you don't have to work out whether or not I implied he did. In fairness, you're making assumptions.

while someone was forcefully trying to shove him into the confined space of the vehicle and attempting to take away his freedom

I didn't say it absolves Chauvin of all wrongdoing. At the very least, he should never be a police officer again. Like I said, he's probably guilty of manslaughter. But the justice system requires proof beyond reasonable doubt. The fact that he said he couldn't breathe repeatedly before being allegedly choked to death is another contributing factor to the uncertainty of this situation.

It's possible he would have died if Chauvin was kneeling on his back. I'm not saying he would have died without a knee on his neck. I don't know the answer and neither do you.

People might think I'm bullshitting but if I saw something like that I'd have drop kicked the fucking cop off his neck and tried to cause a scene until paramedics arrived

I can’t even imagine being in a position like that, having to weigh between trying to save someone’s life at the hands of the police and the consequences of the physical force against the police officer(s) it would require to attempt to intervene.

Right, a billion different tiny variations could have resulted in a billion different and varying outcomes in terms of what contributed, at what percentage, to his death.

The universe is interesting like that.

It doesn’t change the fact that Chauvin kneeled on Floyd’s neck for 6+ minutes straight and during that time Floyd went into cardiac arrest. Not once did Chauvin check for a pulse, even after questions of concern from Lane and from the paramedic as well.

If you were kneeling on someone’s’ neck and felt their body go limp, would you have the common decency to at least take your knee off their neck? Check for a pulse? Check for respirations? Let’s not forget, he still had two other people restraining Floyd at this point in time.

For Chauvin, the answer was obviously “no.” And, then have his lawyer try to misdirect and argue that he wasn’t really kneeling on his neck, I guess 🤦‍♂️

He can't not get sent down. Think of the riots that would ensue...
Plus he used excessive force, the guy wasn’t armed, he pleaded for his life, there was no reason for the fir he used especially when Floyd begged fur his life.

He’s the kind of cop that gives good cops a bad name, he should’ve just cuffed him and put him in his patrol car, and none of this mess would’ve happened.

No one deserves to die even if he’s under the influence or is a criminal and especially if he’s unarmed and not threatening the officer’s life, the other officers are just as responsible, they could’ve stopped this from happening instead of just standing there watching.

They’re all equally responsible and should be put behind bars.

@Deru

I'm not defending his lawyer's actions and I'm not defending Chauvin either. This was clearly police brutality (which I've personally been on the receiving end of more than once).

Like I said, he's probably guilty of manslaughter. It's quite possible Floyd could have been saved if Chauvin acted differently. He was definitely negligent.

I don't think it's fair to call him a racist, cold-blooded, psychopath... or even a murderer.

I don't like Chauvin. I never said I did. But, that doesn't mean he murdered Floyd.

@LordOfThisWorld

They tried and he was thrashing around and kicking them. There were four officers trying to get him into the patrol car. He's a big guy. It's not like Chauvin thought, "fuck it. Let's not put him in the patrol car and just kneel on his neck." If Floyd cooperated, he wouldn't have been restrained... I'm not saying they restrained him reasonably after he repeatedly resisted arrest.

They’re all equally responsible

No. Chauvin is more responsible.

So no taser gun or nothing no back up?You mean to tell me they couldn’t call for back even say the officer’s life is in danger? They would’ve sent in the swat team, I’ve seen it happen before my own eyes once, they even had police helicopters and cops from different towns swarm in, the guy was arrested in two seconds, no one got killed, no one could get in or out. And no one got killed.

Agreed, cops like him are why so many people say "all cops are bastards". No, not all cops are bastards, not at all. But some of them really are, and there are enough of them that are that the entire profession is hated by a large portion of the population. It's shitty, especially for good cops who are trying to fill a vital role in society, and are hated for it.

Agreed, why is this a point of discussion even?

Chauvin is charged with second-degree unintentional murder (For a conviction of second-degree unintentional murder, the state's prosecutors will have to show beyond a reasonable doubt that Chauvin caused Floyd's death while assaulting him.), third-degree murder (Third-degree murder requires prosecutors to prove that someone caused the death of another "by perpetrating an act eminently dangerous to others and evincing a depraved mind, without regard for human life.), and second-degree manslaughter (In order to convict Chauvin of second-degree manslaughter, prosecutors will need to show beyond a reasonable doubt that he was "culpably negligent" and took an "unreasonable risk" with Floyd's life when he restrained him and that his actions put Floyd at risk of death or great harm.)

Just to guide the discussion somewhat :) second degree has a maximum charge of 40 (!) years in prison.
Do go on

I think its more the fact that he was on drugs and had a heart condition. I don't think the police screwed up, society put a loaded gun to Floyd's head and pulled the trigger. Poor guy needed a good social worker and some rehab. Give him a job and a place to live, don't force a man to hussle on the street.

Manslaughter, 100%
If the outcome is any different it will confirm totally that the US system is fucking rigged for white fella.

The autopsy is unarguable, a heart attack caused by restricted breathing.
whether that be by OD or suffocation is entirely irrelevant.

The cop was negligent on every front.
Floyd expressed that he couldn’t breath BEFORE he was restrained.
Opportunity 1 to call in for medical assistance. Denied.

Floyd repeated that he couldn’t breath while being restrained.
Opportunity 2 for medical assistance which just so happened to be ON scene in the nurse witnessing the incident. Denied.

Floyd passed out under the cops weight, a pulse could not be located. Medic on site again begged to be allowed to assist. Denied.

Floyd was passed out under the cops weight for more than 4 minutes!!
this point revival was still possible.
denied.

Zero medical assistance was rendered until Floyd was already dead.
It’s the cops responsibility to provide such assistance under any circumstance, once a perp is sufficiently restrained.
That’s manslaughter regardless of cause of death.

Its really hard for someone that got literally ass raped by cops (two at once) and someone whobhad a best friend shot 8 times in the back while fleeing all within the sMe 1.5 years of floyd and the riots to not think acab. I've met maybe 3 nice ones out of 25. Even thought about joining to get into internal affairs and bust corrupt cops but fuck colluding with that system at all

Hence first degree

I would think the third degree murder charge will get proven, maximum sentence is still 25 years. Second degree murder is somewhat more in doubt.

Tough trial, glad I'm not in the jury.

Maybe life in prison for him, hang the cops who raped me, and 15 years for the ones who killed my bestie
