I have a question that's been bugging me and I can't find a consistent or clear answer online:

What is the difference between a possum and an opossum?

I realize this may sound stupid both we have neither (if, indeed, they are different animals) in my country.
 
I'm in the USA and if you call them opposums, someone will punch you for flaunting your high school education in our faces. We call them possums and rarely does someone even know the mistake they are making.
 
Im from the US and i have had this question ever since I read " where the red fern grows" in third grade. Thanks for the answer.
 
Once saw a four foot long opossum on Shrooms. Was some scary shit, walked across the road while me and my buddy were walking home from the beach. Never seen one that big it was the size of a dog.

True story.

See now that's just irresponsible, I mean who gives a possum shrooms? Especially one that big. That's just asking for trouble.

I have possums living in the ceiling cavity and walls around my bedroom. They are nocturnal and make quite a bit of noise when they fuck and a really creepy scuttling sound with their claws as they move around. Needless to say they can prompt a heart attack at 3 AM on the second night of a major amp binge. One night it happened I thought it was a good idea to send my dog into the cavity to flush them out. Sadly my dog is a sheepdog not a savage hunting dog and cried like a baby to be let out before slaying a single possum. She still hasn’t forgiven me.

EDIT (for the P.C. Police and the easily offended): I am NOT saying that all people from the southern U.S. states are ignorant and illiterate.

True or just google yourself and recite / copy of lazy the info. “Just google” to everything is social loser fodder and you probably dont get the whole story anyway let alone learn about the person youre conversing with.

Thanks for that. I often use those services. But when it comes to getting non-time critical information I’d just rather ask the BL community. Sometimes one simple question l could have searched for on the web can turn into days of endless amusement as the responses start rolling in.

I use startpage searx or duckduck go and have tried others and actually have a paid protonmail acct.

google is okay for some things but yeah i know
