Tapering Longest you've went without sleeping - did you become a lunatic street bum?

3 am, felt insanity approaching, I need to switch-off, the entire night without sleep is not happening (mind was wandering into the "people at the window that aren't really there" phase).

I definitely want to be shot of zopiclone, so I skipped that and went for the 75 mg prometh (for some reason less than this has no effect - it's slightly above the max recommended dose).

2 hours later, a nice sedation engulfs me, thank the fuck christ.

Solid sleep and not that horrible zopiclone feeling this morning (GABA based drug was messing with my neurons - anti-histamine feels milder).

At some point perhaps I can taper of this also, but to be free of zopiclone, perhaps being a nice plateau for the moment.

I took zops for apx 4 years, but only on and off and as needed, though you can easily do a mini bender on them and take them a full week or so.

Take half as you taper down, you might find it will work just as well. That's the thing with zops I found, more was never much different. The taste in your mouth goes and so did the hung over feeling that you get, I never got either when using, unless the first few times after not using for a while.

I found Ambien to be much weaker and much faster acting

Dammit - sleep deprivation in full effect.

I just got tired of that horrible slow feeling of promethazine, being sedated; no more.

Dropping zopiclone was easy - couple days promethazine only and good nights sleeps but, being sedated feels like a false sleep.

I decided I'd be happier just barely sleeping but unassisted.

So here goes - the clock is 2 am.

I tried no sleep aids a few nights ago and gave in at 2 am, but tonight, I'm determined to go all the way.

I mean I have to sleep eventually.
I freaked out a few nights ago but that was coming off zopiclone and prometh together.

Dropping the zop and using prometh to taper the last couple days, I'm feeling more positive I can hold it together enough now to not take anything.

When I worked as a security guard -- the longest I ever went was 1 week. I strongly believe this job made my brain much more potent to sleepiness but when I left it behind and went back to my normal life -- longest I can go it's 3 and half days.

Longest for me was about 3 days I think? I was on a minor meth binge.

When I finally went to bed it was very weird. It was about 5pm, it was like I closed my eyes in bed, and next thing I know I look at the clock and it says... 4pm..

So I'm like.. Wha? How can it be earlier than I went to bed? I go out and talk to my bf and he's like yeah that really is the time. And I ask "was I asleep like 23 hours?" and he just says "yeah you were asleep a pretty long time".

So longest I've ever been awake followed by longest I've ever slept.

So longest I've ever been awake followed by longest I've ever slept.

Longest I've been asleep naturally was 33 hours. This was after 10 days of almost no sleep, and 3 days of no sleep at all. So all up 13 days, went to bed, woke up more than a day later at 2am in the morning.

Longest I've been asleep (unnaturally) was roughly 70 hours, after imbibing an entire bottle of veterinary Nembutal.

Five days, au natural courtesy of insomnia. I started hallucinating. Sober. Also, I couldn’t lie; I wanted to ask someone to walk me to my place down the street because things kept disappearing when I looked away, but I did not want them to think I was nuts, so I had a plausible alternative story but I couldn’t lie.

Made it - first night in about 6 years without a sleep aid.

Kind of similar to before I started sleep aids.

But, WAAAY more chill.

I was totally cool - going through podcasts, thinking I'd try to sleep but then having to get up, walk about.

Remarkably about 5 am I felt this pleasant calmness that one normally experiences before drifting off naturally.
I didn't totally get to sleep cause I was still conscious of my surroundings but, about 1 hour of that and when I became alert - there was absolutely no difference in refreshed'ness versus coming awake after using sleep aids.

Pleasant to drift away vs being stoned into unconsciousness with zopiclone/prometh/mirtazapine etc.

I was thinking about trying melatonin also but, heard it's not really effective compared to zops etc?

Plus I really want to just learn how to sleep naturally.

23 hours of straight natural sleep.

Pfff - I can only imagine how good that feels.

As a teen, late teens etc - I slept like a damn bear, alarms going off etc, nothing could wake me.

Good times.

Melatonin can have side effects— it makes me depressed.

Oh really, cause I'm hyper sensitive to anything psychoactive - even some supplements can have side effects for me.

I thought melatonin was benign but, making someone depressed doesn't sound benign.

It’s rare, but people act like melatonin is harmless, and for some people it’s not. But, maybe you should try it and just stop if you notice anything.

There is a form of prescription melatonin - agomelatine - being sold as an anti-depressant under the brand name Valdoxan that worked wonders for solving my insomnia. On the downside it’s potentially hepatoxic for some users.

Mind = blown.

I slept from 1 am to 7:30 am this morning, no meds, no sleep aids of any kind, nothing.

I haven't slept that well in, about 12 years - unassisted.

well done!! more than me lol.

i wouldn't feel jealous about people sleeping inordinately long times after staying awake for ages on stimulants. you don't feel refreshed. i think the longest roughly continuous sleep i did was a monday to a thursday, after the 1st 24 hours i'd wake up occasionally but not have enough energy to get out of bed and then just drift off again. finally getting up isn't like waking up from a great nights sleep, you ccan just actually feel your entire body complaining about the destruction you've wrought on it instead of being unconscious for it. its also very disorienting when you don't know how many day/night cycles have been.

Melatonin can be effective, but is not nearly as potent as zops. If it's on nights where you're just getting off work and want to get really good sleep for 6+ hours try melatonin 5mg. If 5mg doesn't seem strong enough try going up to 7mg or even 10mg. Some people's bodies react differently to various supplements, making dosing each person an arduous task . Try it or not the choice is yours
