US Politics The 2020 Trump Presidency Thread

I figured there had to be something more going on, besides "him being the president", as Melania was not admitted to the hospital. I suppose it would be too much to expect even Trump's doctor to tell the truth.

I read (but cannot find a source now) that said congress is out of session until oct 19 because of the rising covid cases in capitol hill

Oh weird, I haven't seen anything about that. If anything, Trump is pushing for a stimulus deal. Even McConnel seemed more on board when asked about it yesterday.

If the Dems are smart they won't allow another stimulus bill until President Biden in 2021.

Yeah, as much as I want to see a stimulus bill now, like yesterday, I have a sneaking suspicion this is the end game. Republicans will look horrible if Democrats and WH agree and they still refuse to help provide stimulus during the pandemic. Especially now that Trump has Covid-19 and is hospitalized, that would really hurt them.

Trump never took the virus seriously and America is going to get really sick this winter so the reality can set in too. It's going to suck, I wish it didn't have to be this way. Too many Americans don't take the virus seriously. It's not just Republicans, conservatives or Trump supporters. Liberal idiots in my neck of the woods won't use face masks. There's just no hope.

People really can't be trusted to take their health seriously. This is evidenced by serious obesity rates in the US, rates of smoking, alcoholism, drug use... people aren't taking the virus seriously either. It's rather unfortunate.

There is no way with unemployment being so bad, the economy being in the toilet, and covid-19 levels spiking in US that covid-19 won't take over this winter.

What annoys me. Is there's this attitude that this face mask defiance is being American. That it's the American way to be free and that being free means you don't have to wear a mask and none of the other covid19 efforts are legal.

And it's all crap. This idea of Americanism is a modern development. And shit like mandating face masks is hardly unprecedented in America.

It's just education in America is shit and most America's don't know anything of their history past a world War 2 at the absolute earliest.

There were lots of pandemics and epidemics that America had to deal with before this one, and without this crazy and frankly selfish attitude modern Americans seem to have.

I (astonishingly) can't believe that the Senate is still pushing forward at full speed to get that Coney Barret cunt appointed to the SCOTUS. Fuck them all🤬

Honestly, this was the one thing where I agreed with trump in the debate.
Don't get me wrong I don't want the supreme court to end up one sided, but being honest with myself, I can't say that I don't agree with Trumps argument from the start of the debate.

Presidents are elected for 4 years, not 3 years and 10 months. If they're able to get their nominee in in the remaining time, they have every right to try.

They're total hypocrites of course, McConnell previously argued they should wait until after the election to make the appointment when the election was still like 9 months away, and now he's doing exactly that with a month to go.

But the fundamental argument that the president has a right to make an appointment a month before the election is one I can't honestly disagree with. I wouldn't if the president were a democrat, and I won't with a republican. Or whatever sorry excuse for a republican trump is.

Trump to Giuliani:

“I am the president of the United States. I can’t lock myself in a room. … I had to confront [the virus] so the American people stopped being afraid of it so we could deal with it responsibly."

Now I've heard it all. Did Trump more or less just claim he had to get infected, the ultimate sacrifice, to prove it's not dangerous?

LOL

TRUMP CLAIMS HE DELIBERATELY EXPOSED HIMSELF TO COVID?

Oh this is juicy. I hope he fucking dies now. I mean, I already did, but this is just like too ironic.

If enough Republican Senators go down with (symptomatic) COVID, then we are golden. And they don’t have a huge majority.
Chris Christie was just hospitalized now, too.
That was quick.

What I believe that I read is that they hauled Trump to the hospital before he couldn’t walk, which makes sense for the optics. Doesn’t sound like he’s doing great though.
