US Politics The 2020 Trump Presidency Thread

One can't use 'actual deaths' for countries that deliberately undercount or simply don't report at all.

I'd deduct the overall population from those countries and evaluate based on those who share actual numbers. You take out those massive populations, the US suddenly pops up much higher as a % of global (sans these countries) population, and normalizes (I suspect, haven't done the math honestly) our death rates. Specifically, you drop out those countries that don't report, and I fully suspect our % of global pop is much closer to that 20% death rate you cite.
that seems like a lot of massaging based on assumptions.

but i don't know.

i do think that, if the u.s. government had taken the situation seriously early on we'd have better data: more widespread testing; an effective national plan for investigating related deaths; a better understanding of how the disease affects the body and causes death; etc.
Then, I'd ask a second question about our COVID death numbers and if you don't agree they are inflated (looking at NY and NJ specifically).
i don't know.

Basically America's getting 100% what it deserves.
That's really unfair to all the people who still wear a mask but contract the virus because of a few idiots.

Keep in mind no country has had a 100% success rate at extinguishing the virus; Aus/NZ are prime examples of getting it under control only to have a small outbreak lead to big consequences again.

China was the primary driving force exporting the virus early on in the pandemic, people died as a result, and even if US shut down POE's and borders, nations like China would have kept trying to get people into our nation or tacitly allowed citizens to leave their borders knowing they had a deadly and highly infectious viral pandemic stemming from their country.

China had a major motive for getting the virus outside of their borders; namely, the world would have to deal with it and take an economic hit, and not just China (which would have singularly set them back while the rest of the world would have been prosperous).

Even now NZ and Aus, even with the mistakes, have only a fraction Americas numbers even once you account for the population difference.

There are huge numbers of Chinese in Australia and lots came in after the travel ban here too.

The difference is the action taken by the respective governments. The united states is an enormously rich country and could have done sooo much more than it did.

The US is gonna wind up being one of the hardest hit both economically and in terms of deaths and it's entirely due to its own arrogance, ignorant and hubris.

I don't like saying this, I'm half American, I love America. But we did bring this on ourselves.

FFS, it's not like we didn't know a virus like this was coming. Experts have been sounding the alarm for decades on its inevitability. China didn't make us elect presidents who cut resources for healthcare and pandemic response.

u.s. population as a percentage of world population: 4.23%
u.s. coronavirus deaths as a percentage of world coronavirus deaths: 20.5%

does that include covid deaths in China, Russia, and India? Actual deaths...not the public policy statements to undercount or not report at all.

Excluding China, India, and Russia, the United States contains 6.8% of the world population, and 24% of reported COVID-19 deaths. (Source: Worldometers)

For more granularity: map of reported COVID-19 deaths per capita.

his two signature campaign promises were to build a wall and make mexico pay for it. hasn't happened.

and repeal and replace obamacare with something much better. hasn't happened.

i'm an american. i love america. trump is a disgrace to the office.

but do tell me more about "the clanton gang" :)

alasdair
That would be the Clintons.

nothing to say about president trump's broken promises?

lol. ok.

It's like trump supporters don't recognize that trumps already had 4 years.

If he couldn't make America "great again", or get the wall done or etcetc, why would he suddenly be able to in the next 4 years?

In the last I've said that I wondered if trump supporters may one day feel let down by him like many Obama supporters I know did.

I'm becoming a lot more skeptical that that will happen in particularly large numbers. On account of many trump supporters being significantly less in touch with reality.

I think its 100%. He just tweeted 10 minutes ago he has it. Trump would never admit to that unless he had it. His wife tested positive too.

This guy has the worst karma. XI is partying so hard right now with tea.

I almost think it could be a scam to get out of debates and his promise to the market. We will know over the next couple weeks since he will have to show his face.

This has lots of implications. I wonder if Biden will test positive in the coming days. They both were getting tested around the clock so it's strange he'd test positive so soon after the debate.
