Covid-19 Outbreak of new SARS-like coronavirus (Covid-19)

Antibiotics are overused, for sure, but if I had a serious bacterial infection I would take them in a heartbeat. Of course, COVID is viral so antibiotics make no sense unless there is a secondary infection. Antibiotics wreak havoc on your gut biome, which is why you should only take them if absolutely necessary. You can rebuild it with pre- and pro-biotics, though, so given the choice between life-threatening illness and disrupted gut biome, I would choose disrupted gut biome for sure.

An inhaled steroid is no big deal though, I mean only take them if needed, of course, if but it would help your lungs heal or prevent permanent damage, I wouldn't be at all hesitant.

“…the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1 % or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968 rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively.”

that is a direct quote of a certain corrupt geriatric flip flopping imbecile.

Small anecdotal uncontrolled studies in this situation tend to be very underpowered and next to useless in proving the effectiveness of any treatment. So if you present something as proven you need real evidence to back that claim. Likewise I cannot dismiss inhaled corticosteroids, the correct conclusion is on the basis of the evidence not proven.

What is impressive is the media lead campaign of fear to herd the people and gain yet more power and money, but this it is a zero sum game every bit of control power and money the insiders gain is lost from everyone else, lost from you me everyone who is not an insider.

Eventually most of the the people will figure out this game, it may take as long as it took for 9/11. You can fool all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all the people all of the time.

Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society. In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the medical–industrial complex.

apologies to Dwight

Britain to Roll Out Five Million Coronavirus Tests That Get Results in 90 Minutes

...
The two new tests—both able to detect the virus in just 90 minutes—will be made available to NHS hospitals, care homes and labs. The 2 tests will be able to detect both COVID-19 and other winter viruses such as flu and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), yet do not require a trained health professional to operate—meaning they can be rolled out in more non-clinical settings.

“The fact these tests can detect flu as well as COVID-19 will be hugely beneficial as we head into winter, so patients can follow the right advice to protect themselves and others,” said Health Secretary Matt Hancock in an August 3 statement.

Almost a half million LamPORE swab tests will be available across adult care settings and laboratories starting next week, supplied by Oxford Nanopore. The new test will be able to process swab and saliva samples to detect the presence of COVID-19 in 60 to 90 minutes.

The second test uses DNA to detect the virus, with 5,000 DNA machines supplied by the maker, DnaNudge, being rolled out next month to NHS hospitals allowing 5.8 million tests in the coming months.

The machines will analyze DNA from nose swabs, providing a positive or negative result for COVID-19 in 90 minutes, at the point of care. The machines will process up to 15 tests on the spot each day without the need for a laboratory.

The DNA COVID-19 test machines are currently operating in 8 London hospitals—and are located in cancer wards and maternity wards to protect those most at risk.

The LamPORE test has the same sensitivity as the widely used PCR swab test, but can be used to process swabs in labs, as well as on-location through ‘pop up’ labs. The desktop GridION machine can process up to 15,000 tests a day, or the palm-sized MinION can process up to 2,000 tests a day for deployment in a near-community ‘pop-up’ lab, according to the Health Ministry.

I'm not able to tell if these tests can differentiate between Covid-19 or regular flu, only that you have/had a virus from that family.

I may not understand what you're saying here, but SARS-CoV-2, coronavirus family, and common flu like A(H1N1) or A(H3N2), influenza family, are two different families. I think it would have to specifically differentiate between the two.

COVID-19: A "Super-Inflammatory Illness"

Sounds like a pretty steep claim considering the issues with steroids suppressing the immune system, especially using them early on.

both of these are spin and bullshit, the one thing the British are still world beating at.

they can tell betweeen regular flu and the doom virus corona, but they only look for the prescence of viral RNA so have no way of telling recent infections from current infections, they are simply equivalent to PCR but with more sales hype bullshit attached
DNAnudge is a complete joke look at their device is just a prepackaged PCR type analysis with no information on the sensitivity or specificity, just hand waving and bullshitting but that is all that is needed in the brave new world to get a 200mln USD contract. Here is the good bit, results in 90 minutes but it can only do one sample at a time.....so 15 samples per machine.... per day. even the worst RT-PCR type machine turns around 4 times more samples per hour with much cheaper reagents and availability.

Lampore the second test is technically clever but no more reliable than PCR and for certain less capable and more likely to cross contaminate. Most of the data is secret...yeah we have the data its really good but it is secret...YMMV

If you think PCR in a Lab done by competent and skilled people is bad with >20% false negative, >5% false positive (notice how there are no official numbers for sensitivity and specificity for PCR nor any estimates for false negative and false positive....weird for a gold standard test) then these new devices that rely on exactly the same RNA amplification technology are just or even more flawed but it is proposed these devices should be operated instead by people who have no idea what the pitfalls are.

The NHS, the Doctors and Nurses and Patients along with the UK taxpayer has once again been screwed over by connected insiders and their cronies int he regulatory system. the most obvious being Oxford University's, John Bell (the man who kinda forgot he worked for Roche when he was supposedly an independent advisor, the man who kind of forgot to get ethical approval for taking patient samples, and so on, there is a bunch of other damning information that insiders know that if it was to be revealed the entire charade would collapse)

This is a general pattern, There is very concerning lack of real information about Oxford Vaccitech-Astrazeneca vaccine, most of the insider scientists are head in the sand, and concerned outsiders do not want to give more ammunition to anti-vaxx lunatics so the issue is being ignored. The insiders are set to profit handsomly from head in the sand (deluded optimism or conflict of interest...I guess it depends on your belief) as are another bunch of PE weasels. AstraZeneca was in serious trouble (almost as much trouble as Kodak) before the Covid debacle and IMHO not going to turn its situation around betting on ChOxCoV-2 vaccine...

welcome to medical tyranny serfs

Its a big club and you ain't in it

New zealand has community tranmission after 102 days free country going into lockdown again. Don't know if ill end up eating 22 hits of acid again over a new lockdown like last time hopefully it doesn't get extended past this one week.

Trump on people wearing masks, "Maybe they're good maybe they're not so good, but what do you have to lose? You've got nothing to lose."

Sounds like Trump. Same verbiage he used for hydroxychloroquine earlier this year.

Too bad it took him so long to finally say it.

If he said that about wearing masks, then hot damn, I agree with him about something. You got nothing to lose by wearing one, so why not do it? Throw everyone else a bone. Maybe you'll be helping to keep everyone safe in case you're sick and don't realize it yet, or asymptomatic.

Tbf those neck gaiter things actually break your droplets into smaller droplets that hang around the air longer

So if you're one of those ppl you should just go maskless

That was just one study and involved the experimenters saying a sentence, obviously not a perfect methodology.

Agreed, but where is there any better study to date? Any alternate facts to consider?

Someone sent me the Duke research when I started wearing these, and I was pissed. I read the whole damn research paper to find ways to shoot holes in it (no pun intended) as they said it is worse than wearing nothing at all. However, their methods made sense. Their results made sense. My first point to push back on was after reading the details on their 'fleece' gaiter vs the polyester ones I bought....until I researched to find the difference and there isn't. I was getting the image of those inner wool linings old snow caps used to have as their 'fleece' because I'm stupid. The only other pushback I could muster after that was that we can double fold the gaiter easily and it may protect more. Maybe it would, or maybe it just worsens the droplet effect they found. Either way, weak assed point for my to try and make a stand with.

I still wear the mask to piss them off though.
