I'm so sorry that I brought my daughters into this shit life. I hate myself for it.
I live in Istanbul and this infection is really speeding up, doubling everyday. It has been 11 days since they found the first infected person and it's already up to 30 dead, 1247 infected. The scary thing is that the real figures much higher and whatever you do, there will come a day when the health system will just be not enough.
I don't think that there's a way to figure how bad things can get depending on many variables. I hope that we hit the peak soon so people don't start forgetting their values and morals.
I hope that all of you take this serious, watch your hygiene and keep some distance from others especially if you have to be in contact with your elders or people, whom you care about, with existing health issues like high blood pressure/ cancer/ auto immune issues.

Friend of mine was visiting our college campus in Florida as everyone is evacuating to return home. Says it has been like a ghostown for a week. And while back, he's seen and heard animals that have rarely been noticed in the decades we lived there. Point being, people vacate, nature returns quite easily.

I have recently - after feeling like a failure for not meeting someone I match with (narrow margin there...) to have children, in light of this crisis been sort of happy I don't have them. I don't have to worry about them. I'm also an 'essential worker', and don't think I'll have to worry about income. But the future is uncertain. I have thought how we could bounce back from this, and we could look back with a sigh of relief thinking we overreacted a bit, in stress (not to say we are), but I have also thought that it could have long-lasting repercussions that would change everything, and wouldn't be exactly good, for quite some time. I don't really know which way it will go. I hope the former. I have thought that food will still continue being produced, but I don't know - I don't know if what is produced, at potentially limited capacities, won't just be bought out and hoarded by some certain individuals and not others.

I have lived 3 years eating hemp seeds only, in my past, occasionally supplementing that diet with organ meats and various other foods, but 99% of what I consumed was these seeds; I probably got about 400 calories a day, estimating, as in the amount that actually digested. I had other health issues, and did not digest everything I ate. But I survived that, and that makes me less concerned for myself in the prospect of food shortages... but I wouldn't want to raise a child on such a limited diet.

I am also friends with, and have family who grew up farming or are close to farmers, or people who know how to grow food, and who have access to land to hunt. I'm not in the city, so that's a plus...

I had some other reason to come to try to post something, but now forget.

Edit: I remembered; There is a series on television- Outlander, and in the most recent episode- "Better To Marry Than Burn", there is a mention of the common cold, how there is not a cure, and then a cat brings in a locust. This becomes a part of the episode - defending against a plague of locusts. It represents a sort of first success for one of the main characters, saving many people of their community from potentially starving. The leader of the community left his new son-in-law in charge, when he went to a wedding, and he didn't let him down.

An aside from all of this real-life; just a story/show, but found it interesting in its timing, with what's going on. I had just in the past day considered how they/we haven't even a vaccine for the common cold, 20% of which are caused by other coronaviruses ("so how likely is it that a vaccine is going to be effective against this?").

Having some immunological semblance to what might save your life may indeed be the difference between mild/moderate, moderate/severe or severe/death type reactions to a virus. I had the flu *so bad* two years in a row I was struggling to breathe and esp in 2018 the struggling to breathe thing was so real and unpleasant I can't begin to tell you how awful it was (but I DO NOT want to be put on a ventilator!) and I did get the flu shot those years. Without it I probably would have been hospitalized ugh.

I'll still get the covid vaccine. I'm not looking to have the the flu or anything potentially longer lasting/worse than the flu. It sounds awful when people report what it's like.

It is worth asking "how likely will this prevent disease VS cost" - few people are concerned with the price tag right now but they ought to be, US Congress has thrown a lot of $ at this situation and I'm not sure how much good any of it is going to do at this point which is concerning.

I am remaining hopeful though because if it's low efficacy it might change how the world operates for a while. Really hoping that it won't be this bad forever.
