I find it hard to call any generation responsible. It's like a pendulum swinging (multiple, through multiple dimensions, I don't really get it). You can't really blame them. I find humans about as culpable as dogs in the grand scheme of things. We have a better chance at being responsible, though. I don't mean to absolve us of the need to be responsible. I think of the word - I break it into its parts: 'response' + 'ible', a variant of able. To be able to respond, correctly - with right information/understanding of that information, about the situation. Every generation/person is "responding", or reacting to a state that existed before them. They couldn't control that state, because they didn't exist. ... blah blah blah.

Medical authorities in China have said a drug used in Japan to treat new strains of influenza appeared to be effective in coronavirus patients, Japanese media said on Wednesday.
Zhang Xinmin, an official at China’s science and technology ministry, said Avigan (Favipiravir), developed by a subsidiary of Fujifilm, has produced encouraging outcomes in clinical trials in Wuhan and Shenzhen involving 340 patients.
“It has a high degree of safety and is clearly effective in treatment,” Zhang told reporters on Tuesday.
Patients who were given the medicine in Shenzhen turned negative for the virus after a median of four days after becoming positive, compared with a median of 11 days for those who were not treated with the drug, public broadcaster NHK said.
In addition, X-rays confirmed improvements in lung condition in about 91% of the patients who were treated with Favipiravir, compared to 62% or those without the drug.
Fujifilm Toyama Chemical, which developed the drug – also known as Avigan – in 2014, has declined to comment on the claims.
Shares in the firm surged on Wednesday following Zhang’s comments, closing the morning up 14.7% at 5,207 yen, having briefly hit their daily limit high of 5,238 yen.
Doctors in Japan are using the same drug in clinical studies on coronavirus patients with mild to moderate symptoms, hoping it will prevent the virus from multiplying in patients.
But a Japanese health ministry source suggested the drug was not as effective in people with more severe symptoms. “We’ve given Avigan to 70 to 80 people, but it doesn’t seem to work that well when the virus has already multiplied,” the source told the Mainichi Shimbun.
The same limitations were identified in studies involving coronavirus patients using a combination of the HIV antiretrovirals, Lopinavir and Ritonavir, the source added.
In 2016, the Japanese government supplied Favipiravir as an emergency aid to counter the Ebola virus outbreak in Guinea.
Favipiravir would need government approval for full-scale use on Covid-19 patients, since it was originally intended to treat flu.
A health official told the Mainichi the drug could be approved as early as May. “But if the results of clinical research are delayed, approval could also be delayed.”

Avigan Favipiravir (T-705) is a broad-spectrum inhibitor of viral RNA polymerase.
China's health leadership announced they have found the Japanese-developed anti-influenza drug Avigan to be effective in treating COVID-19 disease patients.
Zhang Xinmin, China’s director of the National Center for Biotechnology Development said Avigan (Favipiravir) was found to be effective in 2 clinical trials completed in Wuhan and Shenzhen and involved 240 patients and 80 patients respectively.
During a conference in Beijing on March 17, 2020, Zhang said the medicine worked for coronavirus-related symptoms including pneumonia and has no obvious side effects.
Zhang said those who were given Avigan reported positive results after 4 days of therapy. This contrasts with a median of 11 days for those without the medication.
Zhang said more than 80 COVID-19 patients have participated in the clinical trial in The Third People's Hospital of Shenzhen, including 35 patients taking Favipiravir and 45 patients on a control group.
One of these clinical trials also found that X-rays confirmed improvements in lung conditions in about 91 percent of the patients who were given the medicine.
The director said he formally recommended the use of this medicine as a way to treat the COVID-19 disease, which is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
According to Zhang, a Chinese pharmaceutical company has been approved by the National Medical Products Administration to mass-produce the medication and ensure a stable supply.
The Avigan tablet was developed by the Fujifilm Group company, Toyama Chemical Co., Ltd., and is not distributed in the Japanese marketplace.
Avigan (Favipiravir) is an anti-viral agent that selectively and potently inhibits the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) of RNA viruses.
Avigan (Favipiravir) undergoes an intracellular phosphoribosylation to be an active form, Favipiravir-RTP, which is recognized as a substrate by RdRp and inhibits the RNA polymerase activity.
Of note is that Avigan (Favipiravir) shows anti-viral activities against other RNA viruses such as arenaviruses, bunyaviruses, and filoviruses, all of which are known to cause fatal hemorrhagic fever. These unique anti-viral profiles will make Avigan / Favipiravir a potentially promising drug for specifically untreatable RNA viral infections.
Previously, a study in 2017 found Avigan (Favipiravir) was effective against a wide range of types and subtypes of influenza viruses, including strains resistant to existing anti-influenza drugs.
And, the French Institute of Health and Medical Research conducted a clinical trial on Avigan’s efficacy as a treatment for Ebola Virus Disease in Guinea from December 2014 to May 2015. Based on the trial results, the Guinean government adopted Avigan tablet administration as part of a treatment regimen for Ebola.
As of March 17, 2020, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not specifically approved any medication for the of the COVID-19 disease in humans.

. You have this little note you need to take with you and your ID if you go outside. You're allowed to solo exercise, get medical stuff, groceries, take your dog out and... That's about it. I'm in a small town and there hasn't been panic buying or anything and the grocery store is well stocked. The French seem to be quite good about solidarity in these trying times. The note and ID check thing are a little disconcerting, kinda echoes of a police state. With that said, I think it's the right move for the most part, still... Papers please? Is a bit scary.

Yeah that would skeeve me out. In America there is no enforcement except for larger public gatherings and restaurants being open... it varies widely by state. We don't get harrassed for going out and socializing, although I haven't been.

The coronavirus death toll in Italy has increased by 475, the highest number so far recorded any country in a single day, according to the latest figures from the Civil Protection Agency.
In total the death toll from the virus in the country, the worst affected in Europe by the outbreak, has now reached 2,978 - an increase of 19%, Reuters reported.
The total number of cases in Italy, the European country hardest hit by the virus, rose to 35,713 from a previous 31,506, up 13%
Of those originally infected, 4,025 had fully recovered compared to 2,941 the day before. Some 2,257 people were in intensive care against a previous 2,060.

This is a war against Iran and China. Russia likely had something to do with this as it is their only natural enemy now (non-signatory party to the nuclear arms treaty) other than US satellite states like Israel which are easily manipulated through US allies to Israel (TRUMP!).
ONE vaccine trial, FORTY FIVE people NOT exposed post-vaccination to the virus but "monitored for a year". IDIOTS. You think there's a cure coming? It's already there. Heels are dragging in the mud yet again. Just watch it fall apart in phase 2 or 3 trials. Think about the time, a year... just in time for all those vulnerable old Democratic voters to die off... I'm not even a Democrat and it's clear who this is targeting. And that's just Phase I trials, don't forget all the stiff FDA regulations that prevent a drug from gaining approval in Phase II or III... and what, they'll do one more vaccine trial, at which point who knows what the US political landscape will look like...
And TATHRA THINKS IT'S GOING TO KILL OFF OLD RICH PEOPLE HAHAHAHAHAHA. They can afford stockpiling food. They can afford having food delivered, self-quarantining, and spacing out from the rest of us. Tathra if you think this is in any way helping your political cause you are WRONG comrade. BIDEN IS VERY CLOSE TO WINNING THE PRIMARY. Sanders will NOT WIN. There are TOO MANY PEOPLE AFRAID OF DYING AND ABJECT POVERTY to vote for Sanders. You have no one to thank for that but innate human greed and selfishness. The human condition, the fact that intelligent life is inherently self destructive is what you struggle with.
If the virus spread so quickly and wasn't within Trump's control, he had no reason to lie in the manner and pattern he did knowing that it was no hoax, and this kind of kool-aid is only tasty to his already FOR SURE TRUMP VOTER supporters. He's not going to lose the white nationalist idiots in the south who are going to vote for him anyways. He had no reason to start with the hoax lie than to cover his tracks and wash his hands of the crime.

This fear for the economy... it will cause people to vote for Trump (was the stock market doing well under Biden?...) and is just as bad as the fear of the virus, the fear of dying.
