The point is is that the vast majority of people who were harassed (over 680,000 people in one year at the peak of the policy under Bloomberg) hadn't committed any crime, and certainly no violent crime (which Bloomberg credits the policy with deterring)

Ah, thanks!
I suppose I could see a connection on his part, though tenuous. The idea of getting frisked at random may deter people from carrying weapons or illegal goods, thereby lowering the occurrence of such crimes. But, it's impossible to count the number of things that 'did not happen' due to a policy like that.

Those kind of practices really poisoned the relationship between a lot of the public and the NYPD. As a civil libertarian I find it very offensive and problematic, the idea that law enforcement can quite literally push a citizen around whenever they feel like it, to conduct a physical search of someone simply because they happen to be existing within an environment that's associated with crime. It's degrading and only serves to further this toxic notion of the cops as an occupying army who the citizens hate. 680,000 a year, that's obscene!
That's without going into some of the other corrupt practices associated with it, like how possession of marijuana in NYC was decriminalized unless it was in plain sight, a stop-and-frisk search ends up finding marijuana and, ta-da, now it's in plain sight so it's a crime! This was the kind of stuff that the NYPD was involved in, it really set the context for the Eric Garner incident and everything that's happened since, and that's the kind of thing that Bloomberg was defending just 5 years ago...he's such a piece of crap, can't stand him lol

this outraged trump. trump said he never go on holiday. trump said he'd accept no salary (which he hasn't).
on friday it was reported that trump returned from his 29th taxpayer-funded trip to mar-a-lago bringing the total cost of these trips to over $133 million dollars, equivalent to over 330 years of the presidential salary he brags about not taking.

That's how NATO works. Every country sends some troops under NATO control. This way, any country isn't viewed individually as enforcing any rules, but NATO as a group of countries is exerting force where required.

Why would things be tense with Iran?
Idunno. Could it be they are pissed about not getting pallets of cash anymore? Or that they can't hold our sailors captive? Or attack or embassy without reprisal? Or maybe that they can't attack our allies and bases indiscriminately as a show of force internally without getting smacked in the nose for it? Perhaps it has something to do with the fact they got shown we are not to be fucked with anymore? I can see how that might make things tense, as opposed to roll over and take it like we used to.

I find it hard to see Trump's actions in the middle east as helping our position. Abandoning the Kurds shows our allies that we don't keep our promises and strengthens Russia's influence in the region, and blowing up Iran's second in command, while one could argue is a brute-force method of cowing people into submission through fear, is hardly de-escalating our middle east conflicts (when I said Trump is starting a war with Iran, that's what I was referring to... perhaps it won't lead to official war, but can you see how I don't find that it aligns with his promise to extricate ourselves from foreign wars? How it could easily lead to an actual war?) After all, control through fear and violence has worked well for us in the middle east so far hasn't it? What could possibly go wrong?

And then there is the fact that he justified abandoning the Kurds by saying he wanted to bring the troops home, but instead he moved them to Iraq and now according to the article Grimez posted, he is increasing the amount of troops in Iraq as well as planning to leave them there permanently. So is he saving us from unnecessary foreign conflicts like he promised and being anti-war, or is he perpetuating our role in middle east conflicts? Maybe even worsening it due to the reasons I stated above?

I believe that it is necessary to approach something like international relations with something resembling a strategy as opposed as to a string of poorly thought out, impulsive decisions, and then praise someone for not causing an immediate war.
The idea that Trump has done something positive in a region where we now have more troops and less stability is laughable. We haven’t made any progress, just new enemies (e.g., the Kurds) and it bodes ill in the short term and even worse in the long term. Not every country has the short attention span of America.
And then there are our allies... traditionally at least. There’s a way to make progress without taking a dump on people, and Trump’s particular style of leadership doesn’t has great success in the long term.

Michael Milken - On April 24, 1990, Milken pleaded guilty to six counts of securities and tax violations. (started with 98 count indictment on racketeering and fraud).

Trump has also pardoned former Bush administration official David Safavian who was convicted in connection with the Abramoff corruption scandal.
Wonder if he's softening up the public for pardoning Stone and Manafort?
