Election 2020 The 2020 Candidates: Right, Left and Center!

IMO, Sanders is the only one with a chance. It's because a large subset of people are going to vote against the establishment, and he's the only one besides Trump (who I'm not sure we can say with a straight face is actually anti-establishment) who is. So the DNC would be wise to quit trying to sabotage him.

MAYBE Warren could do it, but she seems to be set on fucking up her chances of Bernie's supporters moving to her if she ends up the candidate.

Looks like Yang will probably go through NH and then drop out. I think he’s brought some fresh ideas to the campaign trail, and I’m sorry he didn’t go further. Freedom Dividend, anyone? 😝

Yang fires dozens of staffers after Iowa debacle
The layoffs extended throughout his organization.
Andrew Yang’s campaign fired dozens of staffers this week after an abysmal finish in the Iowa caucuses, according to four former staffers who were let go.

Among those dismissed were the national political and policy directors of the campaign, as well as the deputy national political director — all senior-level positions. The people who were fired worked across Yang’s organization, from his headquarters in New York to the now-disbanded Iowa operation.

Yang finished sixth in Iowa, receiving just 1 percent of delegates, according to the most recent count.

A Yang campaign official insisted there were previous plans to reduce the size of his organization after Iowa. The official wouldn’t specify the number of people who were laid off, but the fired staffers said it was in the dozens. According to fundraising reports released last week, the Yang campaign had more than 230 people on staff.

“As part of our original plans following the Iowa caucuses, we are winding down our Iowa operations and restructuring to compete as the New Hampshire primary approaches,” campaign manager Zach Graumann said in a statement to POLITICO. “These actions are a natural evolution of the campaign post-Iowa, same as other campaigns have undertaken, and Andrew Yang is going to keep fighting for the voices of the more than 400,000 supporters who have donated to the campaign and placed a stake in the future of our country.”

Former campaign employees who were granted anonymity to speak candidly said many people expected staffing changes after New Hampshire, not Iowa. They were disturbed by how some people learned they were let go, such as when their email and Slack accounts were cut off.

“Some people found out through gossip or back channels, and things weren’t timed particularly well,” one of the former staffers said. “Some people were shut out of their email, before getting an official phone call [from the campaign] or anything like that. So definitely not the most organized.”

Staffers were given at least one month severance, according to the dismissed workers.

Every former staffer who spoke to POLITICO said they still believe in Yang and his mission. Some wanted to remain anonymous because they hope to work with him again in the future and didn’t want to jeopardize the relationship or his candidacy.

I really don't want to paint this situation over him or the campaign in any negative way. I, wholistically had a fantastic experience,” one ex-staffer said. “Andrew, taking it this far and continuing as far as he can, is incredibly inspiring to me."

Bernie is a mortal threat to their way of life. Corporatism. They won't stop.
They knew he was a better opponent versus Trump than HilLiary, and they still chose her.

He's also a true McKinsey baby. I try to stay open-minded, but that shady international kleptocratic consultancy is to blame for a lot of ills in the world.

isn't this a CIA front company? We were warned after 2016 that they'd be attempting to put CIA operatives directly into office

Lol here's a US gov-backed election observer report sharply criticizing Indonesia for elections with poorly trained officials, slow tabulation of votes, and confusion around reporting of results https://t.co/6XOzV2lJU3

The US spends close to $150 million a year on democracy promotion efforts, including our service to train public officials and ensure fair and transparent elections in developing countries. Kind of feel Iowa could have benefitted from some of that.

In contrast, the Iowa Dem Party, in preparation for a contest to shape the potential leader of the most powerful country in human history, spent around $60,000 on a faulty caucus app that election volunteers didn’t know how to use and failed to correctly transmit the results.

Who do you think Bernie would/will choose as a running mate? Rampant speculation invited.
Tulsi? Sarah Palin is too busy I guess.

Seriously though Tulsi could connect to some of the former Trump supporters because of her support for ending forever wars though she is regarded as suspect by many due to her links with CFR (council foreign on relations, globalist, mostly neocon, think tank ), Bernie appeals to the younger voters and people who will get out there and campaign.

Its not going to happen though, the Dems are determined to stop Bernie and they will through fair means or foul.

'Russians did it! Democratic congresswoman finally says what Russiagaters have all been thinking about Iowa caucus fail'

(feel free to move this to the Conspiracy Theory thread!!!!!!) 😂😂😂

Trumpers say there's no evidence of Russian interference in our elections, but in fact there is plenty of evidence about 2016 and it's laid out in the Mueller report. My biggest problem with people who support your side is that it apologizes and deflects the importance of, or outright denies the reality of, the fact that our historically biggest rival is trying to undermine our election process and our stability right now. We should be focusing on that.

Gabbard could be a strong choice. Like you mentioned, she has the ability to perhaps connect with some independents and conservatives. I've been impressed by some of her policy positions regarding the environment, drug law reform, foreign policy etc. Some of her other positions are more conservative and not so great IMO, or maybe OK but still not not the best option from among the field of candidates (like healthcare), but overall I think she's well-spoken and one of the better politicians.

She's been in the Sanderista-wing of the Democratic Party going back to 2016, though, and a lot of people in the "establishment" of the Democratic party seem to hate her or are suspicious of her for some reason, so I doubt that she'll be on the ticket

Mueller report was pretty laughable. Russia really does have better things to do than interfere in the mythical probity of US elections, the USonians are pretty good at corrupting the process all on their own.

Russia Russia Russia is a convenient bogeyman, the current politicians version of "look squirrel". The USA has undermined its own stability by screwing over sections of its own country for the benefit of a few select elite groups. Once economic disparity and disparity of opportunity reaches a certain level instability always results. Stop blaming Russia start look at around at yourselves because denial is the real heart of the problem. The political system in the USA is broken, Russia didn't break it, Americans (lobbyists politicians cronies think tanks lawyers and on and on) broke it.

id say Stacey Abrams is the odds on favorite
Her work against disenfranchisement is admirable. I tracked her a bit during her Georgia gubernatorial bid, but admittedly don’t know much beyond that about her.

Interesting choice, but I don’t see how she expands the tent with Dems or Republicans.
FYI: @SpeakerPelosi destroyed an official government document.

18 US code 2071 states:

“Whoever, having the custody of destroys the same, shall be fined... shall forfeit his office and be disqualified from holding any office under the United States.”

If Trump broke this law the Democrats would try to impeach him...

Apparently Sanders is looking at a female running mate. Maybe.
Looking ahead to the end of the primary, Sanders he "may very well" choose a running mate before the Democratic National Convention. He did not commit to choosing a woman or a person of color as his vice presidential pick but said it is his "inclination" to choose a woman.

"What I want from a vice president is somebody whose worldview is similar to mine, and there are a lot of brilliant women out there who hold that view," Sanders said.

I was actually just watching this.

Trust me, a Sanders' White House will move our country forward to a place it'd take us 50 years to get to otherwise. Think of the representation we would have at levels of government. From every minority group.

I think Tulsi gets a LOT more pull from conservatives than ANY other Dem candidate for Pres, and would likely be a great addition for Sanders to get more votes.

I question, however, the point of the VP in that they don't really execute their agenda. Mostly, it's following the agenda of the Pres and VPs are used to pull more votes and give a second person for all the White House obligations. It's a great stepping stone for her, or anyone else, that wants to run in the future, but really....the last several VPs have been forgettable shadows under their Presidents, IMO.

I guess there's zero probability of a Sanders-Warren tie-up, given their recent clashes

I think they could put that behind them. I think Bernie wants a female of color though (warrens native heritage doesn't count). Then again if she'd just drop out now that be a huge help for Bernie in the upcoming primaries. If she does that maybe she will be VP.
