we leftists want to get rid of the 2 party system. the 2 party system is an inevitability of the first past the post, winner takes all voting system used, which inevitably turns into a one party system masquerading as a two party system

as soon as we switch to ranked choice voting, other parties instantly become viable, everyone is able to have representation in government instead of only conservative right wing neoliberal neocon authoritarians, and the system has to work for the good of all or it doesn't work period since it becomes impossible for any one party to hold a majority, they have to compromise and work with other parties to get anything done

So we're not consuming multiple earths of resources and life on earth for humankind is totally sustainable?

NOPE and all the liberals have to believe in science.

YOU KNOW THIS IS WHY DEMS WILL LOSE ELECTION NIGHT? YOU CAN'T JUST ALL BAND BEHIND GLOBAL WARMING AND SCREAM IT FROM THE ROOF TOPS UNTIL YOU'RE BLUE IN THE FACE AND NOT JUST YOUR DRESSES/SUITS. When Inslee dropped out I knew Trump would win. Have been calling it for months.

It goes something like this

The Earth
2nd Amendment Rights
Civil rights

in the minds of everyone in AMERICA.

Your civil right campaign can't compete with MAGA. It just can't. Even if I HATE IT ALL (and you know how much I <3 PLANET EARTH, my CIVIL RIGHTS, and to me to a much smaller extent 2nd amendment rights I have *never* exercised). <3

Can't afford it till far-left people give me free money.

And we know left politicians at least don't look like pumpkins or like they were born in a fake sun tanning bed machine. ;)

You can hate me for what I'm saying but I'm still closer to wanting to see a Dem in office.

The natural world is more beautiful to me than anything humans can create, in excess, which destroys nature.

Our attempt to civilize on the face of planet earth has failed.

Come visit skid row of any major US city and tell me that's better than nature. Please. Trust me, I've seen enough. We've ruined planet earth.

You'd have to live up, far far away from the billions of us who are ruining it, to see it with your own eyes. The forest is a beautiful place. <3

So.... wait for them to make a bunch of kids, wait for them to get hooked on heroin/meth. The money will fly to another, even larger pile: that of the drug lords.

Tell me how you plan to fight that level of income inequality. Money largely flies from smaller to larger sources, in large scales, and always will by the way this has all been designed.

The best a family/individual can hope for is someone gets a nibble at the food. There aren't 3 planets to go around come next Thanksgiving. We're over-consuming and over-exploiting planet earth. You'd have to dig your head in the sand with the far right not to get that.

How do you plan to value harder workers over non-workers? far left or far right ideology? totalitarianism? forced labor? we're doing the best we can and even that is failing. Capitalism is not failing us; overpopulation is. Also, best highlighted in Atlas Shrugged.

you absolutely, absolutley cannot quantify need and greed

or we just become life support systems hooked up on tubes made of minimalism, meals made of each other, because every other species will die/be exploited/be gone as we have RUINED PLANET EARTH. Climate change is NOT A HOAX. We'll be alright, but there will be FUTURE GENERATIONS. They will want options. These linguistically simple things don't click in the minds of people who aspire for SOMETHING JUST SLIGHTLY BETTER THAN AVERAGE. Not everyone can be reconfigured to be a proud minimalist. I actively use minimalism in literature/audio. I used to live materialistically in absurd ways including being homeless three times.

MOST PEOPLE ARE NOT LIKE ME and will TOTALLY LOSE THEIR SHIT if you touched any of their shit.

Do you not remember stock market collapse footage?

I mean, I could go on, and on. Capitalism, wealth inequality, and at least some humans are here to stay, that I can guarantee you.

so it's the nations' faults collectively, for not buying (or taking at gunpoint?) them all up and shutting them all down. far left, far right, and totalitarian nations would be more than happy.

the emissions are proportional to the population. We all can't live 100% green; what happens when we are 3+x 2 billion that "is sustainable if living green"? I believe in science and numbers, sorry. We're doomed.

I have a hard time understanding such incoherent ramblings. Is there a leftistthat could explain to me what CH means with that? @tathra, @Xorkoth or @cduggles maybe? I would appreciate it.
How can a person that was homeless still believe in this system? I don't get it.

Self-hatred, I think. I think that from his perspective, he feels like it's his fault he is in this position because he doesn't work hard. While not seeing that the same is not true of everyone who is poor, or even close to it. I just try to avoid conversing with CH about this topic as I've been there, done that, and it makes me feel negative. Also, drugs/alcohol (in terms of the lack of coherency).

My argument boils down to a simple statement. I believe everyone should work and contribute to society, and I also believe that, if you're doing that, you should be able to afford the necessities and not go into debt. Right now this is not the case for millions of people. Hence, there is a serious problem with our system.

Damn right. I believe that every human being has the right to all basic necessities and more. How cruel is it to deny other people food, water, shelter, clothing? Those are things everyone needs, regardless of their ability to contribute to society.
I'm tired of this shit. Why do you guys (not you tathra) think only people that contribute to society should have their basic needs met? Don't you think that every human deserves not to starve, not to be thirsty, not to sit outside in the cold, etc.?
We live in a world where the overproduction is so blatant that tons of goods are burnt in order to maintain prices. Why not just redistribute?
You sure will claim that nobody would work, if they would get everything for free. But this is simply not true. People like to be productive, we love to express ourselves. And when there's a certain amount of work that has to be done, I'm sure most people would be willing to work 15-20 hours for the community (it will only decrease over time) in order to keep things running. The rest will be free for leisure.
At some point in the near future (iirc in about 15-20 years) the automation will have killed about 50% of all jobs that we have today. Our economy will try to keep up with the creation of bullshit-jobs in the middle management, etc. but it won't be able to replace all jobs. When will people start to realize that we don't live to work and that work is only a way to sustain ourselves? So if we have robots that take care of that, wouldn't it be good to not define our self-worth through our work? When will people realize that means-testing, making a decent life or even survival dependent on actual or perceived contribution to society, etc. is not only inhumane, but also most unnecessary in 2019?

even though it's probably not necessary to start a new thread since the software upgrade, a lot of the stuff in the earlier pages isn't viewable anyway from broken links, deleted images, etc, plus having different meme threads covering a set amount of time could be useful for anyone wanting to see how memes change over time, or what memes were popular in a given year

the social stuff was moved into the social thread, so please continue those discussions there
