Ive had the pleasure of meeting this guy while in the military. I meet him just before BUDs (SEAL training). Just being in this guys presence gave me goosebumps. 2 weeks before graduation of BUDs, I started having seizures (and got discharged). This guy helped me through my depression... Thankfully I was lucky enough to do some Special Operations contracting work with the SEALs (and other Special Operations guys) I trained with before the Military, after I was discharged.

Watch this amazing motivational video from him. I still watch it every week.

Hooya Admiral McRaven. Thanks for everything. "The only easy day, was yesterday"

Hey man great video.

I think the first point about beginning the day by completing a simple task was my favourite.

Reminds me I want to do my daily plan now to get the ball rolling for the day

Thanks, brotha. Yeah, that was one of my favorites too. If definitely helps!

I really like this actually. They showed this to us in a group session when I was in in-patient a while back and it really got me thinking and helped me make some changes in my life. I think most of us in the room got a lot out of it, it was the most engaged I had seen most of the people the entire time I was there. They handed out a few copies of a book he wrote, I can't remember what it was called, they ran out before I could get one though. Think it was something like Make Your Bed.

I can set some of my personal beliefs aside to recognize that this is a really great speech by someone who is a stand-up guy and a great leader.

Thanks for bringing this back to me. I like this sort of thing because it reminds me that I don't actually know everything and that not everything I believe is right. It helps me slow down, take a step back, and realize that just because I might think differently than someone doesn't mean that they aren't a good person. We live in a pretty difficult time and there's a lot anger and emotion to how we talk about politics now, and it leads to people dehumanizing everyone they disagree with, so it's easier to hate them. But you can't bring a country back together through personal attacks, it just makes people dig their heels into the ground even deeper and leads to more and more division and hatred. I don't agree with a lot of the actions of the military recently and on an individual level, I'm committed to non-violence and I refuse to use any type of force against another person. If I was actually eligible for the draft and there was one, I would consider dodging it. But I still like everything this guy said and I'm glad that he's with us.

Respect. Kill a commie for Christ for me. Seriously though I dunno how the draft works tbh, I would be willing to do non-combat work if I had to I guess, and I mean surely there are fitness tests and shit I can't imagine they just throw anyone out there. Don't have to worry about it though unless they change the rules which I don't think a lot of people are really pushing for on either side as far as I know.

Haha xD and there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with non-combat jobs. There TONS of fantastic ones (not gonna lie, if you were to be drafted ... the Navy and Airforce is the place to be for "non-combat jobs haha). There are definitely fitness tests (and you obviously still have to go through basic training as well). If a crisis occurs which requires more troops than the volunteer military can supply. Congress passes and the president signs legislation which starts the draft process. It should be noted that the president cannot initiate a draft on his.

A lottery based on birthdays determines the order in which registered men are called up by Selective Service. The first to be called, in a sequence determined by the lottery, will be men whose 20th birthday falls during that year.

The National Draft Lottery would be conducted publicly with the proceedings being observed by accredited representatives of public interest groups to ensure legitimacy and fairness.

The actual lottery drawing is performed in a similar way to how state-run lotteries select their winning numbers, using drums and air balls. There are two large drums for the draft lottery and two sets of air mix balls: one set is labeled with a date and month, January 1 through December 31; the second set is labeled with numbers 1 through 365, which will represent the sequence for induction. In the case of a leap year, 366 balls are used.

The balls are drawn from the first drum, and then the second drum. The date drawn indicates the birthday, while the second ball indicates the order those with that birthday are to be inducted.

The Selective Service Agency activates and orders its state directors and reserve forces officers to report for duty.

After that is complete, Registrants with low lottery numbers are ordered to report for a physical, mental, and moral evaluation at a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) to determine whether they are fit for military service. Once he is notified of the results of the evaluation, a registrant will be given 10 days to file a claim for exemption, postponement, or deferment.

Local and Appeal Boards will process registrant claims. Those who pass the military evaluation will receive induction orders. An inductee will have 10 days to report to a local Military Entrance Processing Station for induction.

According to current plans, Selective Service must deliver the first inductees to the military within 193 days from the effective date of the draft legislation.

Interesting, I never knew there was that much to it.
