The 2019 Trump Presidency Thread

He's catching (a LOT) more heat for it in MSM, but is he really doing much worse than 'you can keep your doctor' or 'read my lips'? I'm not trying to throw a whatabout at this, my point is politicians DO lie, and HAVE lied since before our country was founded and we're not in the ground yet.

Yes, fair point. Politicians do lie. Although Trump has taken it to a new level by actively contradicting his own statements, indicating either: (1) at least one of those statements was a lie, or (2) gross incompetence.

I have long said that both political parties are fucked and fully corrupted. My issue is that Trump supporters want to believe that Trump is different, that he is our savior from this situation. I can't see how this is the case, unless the whole point is to be so blatant and transparent that it reveals to everyone just how corrupt it all is. Maybe he's deep undercover... 8)

There better be no "moving on for the better of the country" after he leaves office like there was with Nixon. Mueller made very clear that Trump attempted to obstruct justice, and also made clear that you don't have to be successful in those attempts to be charged with and convicted of obstruction. The only reason he wasn't charged because the DOJ has a policy of not charging sitting Presidents.

He should be charged the day he leaves office and given a fair trial.

After this nightmare is over, we should never let the sycophant Republicans in congress that enable him OR his supports forget the harm they have done to this country.

i do.

i suppose i'm part of your "the left" so...
i addressed it. is captain.heroin now "the left"? lol. ok.

alasdair

You are one person. If 99 people on the Left say one thing, and you say something different (you may be even lying to prove a point), then I'll probably still characterise the Left a certain way.

If you come out and say "I as a Leftist condemn the act of throwing milkshakes at conservatives" you would literally be the first person on the Left I have seen state this.

Just make sure you truly believe it before you say it.

but trump's not a politician! or he is now? i don't know. it's confusing keeping up with his lies, muddled statements, rage tweets, flip-flops the whole time he's straight-shooting!

alasdair

He's still President in case you're confused about that, and is on track to win re-election. Remember when he had no chance of winning? One day you won't take him so literally and will learn how to read between the lines of political rhetoric.

This is incorrect. In his report, in his discussions with Barr back in May, and confirmed yet again today - Mueller states that is NOT the reason he didn't charge, but that there was not evidence to support it. Moreover, he was asked explicitly if his investigation was hampered or deterred in any way, to which he replied 'No'.

I will agree that even failing to obstruct can be charged with obstruction. Today's hearings made it clear there was no ground to charge Trump.

The confusion was created, and continues, as Mueller states 'a sitting President cannot be charged, once out of office he can be charged.' This is fact. I can be arrested right now. The requirement for either to happen is that laws were broken. ANY President can be charged once out of office IF they broke the law. Mueller's statements indicate there are no grounds for the charges. The reference to charging a President (note, he never says Trump, he says 'a President') is fact, but for Trump there are no grounds.

But I thought he was a straight shooter and he meant what he said?

Ok, so since the campaign back in 2016 when some of his supporters claimed he was a "straight shooter" can any of you tell me when you've heard anyone still saying that? Aside from those mocking comments (rightfully so) from 3y ago?

I don't get it either. It just shows the ridiculous lengths that people need to go to to demonize him. I do like how they hold him to a higher standard than other politicians when it comes to honesty though.

Fortunately for Trump the Dems have been lying so blatantly and so consistently that they make him look like George Washington.

Politician, President, or Popsicle Stick the man is rude and to be quite frank, a racist. I personally do not like the fear mongering, hate speeches, sexist comments, and his general unprofessionalism. This is the least presidential president to ever run for office much less actually get elected (possibly twice..who knows). All that we, the people, can do is hope for the best, make informed decisions and vote in the elections.

Tell me what you think is the #1 most racist thing he has said or done?

We've gone over this ad nauseum but why was he never accused of being a racist during the decades before he got into politics? He received a fking medal together with Rosa Parks for helping minority youth in NYC. If you think he's racist then you also probably think he's a Russian agent.

Okay listen, i am going to agree to disagree with you on this. Before I go, i would like to point out that racism is not a "black and white" issue; it applies to any and all people being discriminated against due to their race, culture or religion. Does he stand at the podium yelling racial slurs? NO. He does however, make discriminating remarks about other nationalities. This is simply my personal interpretation of things. Just as you believe it is fake news, i believe that he could conduct himself in a more professional manner and be less hateful. Anyway, have great rest of your day and God Bless America ❤

thank you for your opinion Tim, I wholeheartedly agree.

Fortunately for Trump the Dems have been lying so blatantly and so consistently that they make him look like George Washington.

Speaking of Dems and what they say...a frequent refrain in the Mueller hearings was "Nobody is above the law" to which there was no opposition, only agreement that accountability is lacking at times. I foresee this turning around and biting the Dems later this year when Horowitz's report comes out regarding the build up for the FISA warrants. Trump won't have to say a thing to get re-elected, just replay clips of Dems saying "Nobody is above the law" over and over.

Before I go, i would like to point out

Tim - I just wanted to stop and thank you for jumping into the conversation. New views and voices are always appreciated. It may take a bit of time to get used to the peanut gallery and know who is joking and who honestly believes their statements, but you are very much welcome to stick around.
