The 2019 Trump Presidency Thread

In the UK...

The US sucks at getting accurate coverage over what the hell we're doing in our own coverage. As such any news of what's happening in Europe usually arrives via very biased channels pushing an agenda, usually by conservative outlets seeking to fear monger and amp up attention on our 'border crisis'. From what I've seen (more of Sweden than UK), it isn't all the time everywhere, but that it happens at all is appalling and I'm grateful I'm not living there with wife or daughter.

President Trump is our "FUCK YOU" to the mindless depravity of the left, the ineffective tut-tut politeness from the right, and general apathy from the middle. He is the middle finger we gave ourselves.

FIFY

I honestly thought everyone knows about the Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal or the Rochdale child sex abuse ring, which are the tip(s) of the iceberg(s).
It isn't the US that sucks at accurate coverage, it is the entire western MSM and globalist political class that actively covers up the truth hand in hand with Google et al.

Have not heard about it. I tend to keep up with war-front news more than I do domestic stuff TBPH. The media loves the war front.

Donald Trump is a terrible President.
To be fair I didn't vote for Hillary and I can't imagine what shitshow we'd have with her. And it wouldn't even be her fault; it would be what would happen with Russia. An occupier (Trump) is obviously bad but, I often think we'd be in active war or there would be worse economic depression or at least media/voting manipulation attempts, hacking, etc. People like AOC and Tlaib are living proof that democracy still exists here and we have a fighting chance to get rid of the occupied gov't forces. Even though I didn't vote for either and people like AOC normally make my skin crawl.

Trump invokes KKK slogan 'love it or leave it' at North Carolina rally

(Trump) He is the middle finger we gave ourselves.

There's a quote in this article that reminded me your quote above:

““This will be the new chant in place of ‘lock her up’ it will be ‘send her back’,” Dr Hunt said. And how Republicans and how the American public responds to that tells us less about Trump, more about ourselves.”

I have to give CNN credit here, they left a lot of the airtime for the black conservative guy. Yeah, they tried to pick out the anti-Trump words, but they let the strongest Trump supporter in the group have his say and get the lion's share of airtime in that clip.
Oh you give them too much credit. Liberals can't distinguish libertarians from neo-cons from neo-nazi's. At least most can't.

They served in Cruz's place up a bunch of sloppy seconds with one of their deep-liberal anchors when he chose to not even show up to debate O'Rourke though. I think on the nat'l stage they have to stay "liberal" but state-wise they are very conservative.

Oh my.

From the article:
But the ‘love it or leave it’ line is an eerily familiar slogan of the Klu Klux Klan in North Carolina, according to Australian National University US politics expert Jennifer Hunt.

Dr Hunt, who grew up in North Carolina, said the “Love it or Leave it” slogan was used by the KKK years ago when it claimed to be fighting “communism and integration”.

I had a response in mind, but got temporarily distracted seeing them seek an expert on US politics from the Australian National University. Though, they pulled it back to reality by sharing that she grew up in NC and saw KKK signs with this message. Ok, that's her experience.

Mine is that I've never seen such a sign or was aware such a sign existed. I've been to NC many times over my years on earth. However, in those years on earth, I've heard / been told / or said many, many times to "Love it or leave it". Never, ever, has it been racially intoned. Ever. Parents tell their kids this weekly when it comes to eating their vegetables. Boss' tell it to employees when there is an unpleasant task to be done. This is a very common phrase and while this individual associates it with KKK, I think such a view makes up less than 0.01% of the people who have heard such a phrase used. This brings me back a second time to wonder how far they had to go to find someone willing to express such a view.

Perfect example of looking for racism in a statement by Trump where it doesn't exist.

I've probably used the term myself. You are missing the point. Language evolves.

I often miss the point - I'm sure you can back me up on that ;) It doesn't mean I'm not interested in 'getting the point'.

Care to convey the point plainly so that I may learn? I recognize 'language evolves' which then begs the question if the use of the term 50y ago by racists means it is racist today. Seriously, I am open to explanation.

Linguistics isn't my forte. In fact, far from it. But I will try to give you one example. without completely fucking it up.

The word, "nigger," was used during slavery in an obviously racist way (to us to today), but back then it didn't look like it to them. In fact, the word was and is still used in a derogatory way without negative consequence in many circles.

No, Trump didn't come out and specify the phrases relevance to him, and it wasn't specifically directed at anyone this time (like his tweet), so I understand your immediate dismal of the article.

What I think you might be missing is the language he is using:

- His tweet to tell our American citizens to go back from where they came from to fix their own shitty issues.
-The "send her back" chants
-The love it or leave slogan.

Which brings me back to my origin point. Do you see the similarities, the theme here? Go back to where you came from, "send her back", "love it or leave it". It's his rhetoric and it's context is racist.

It's his call to the far right and the dog whistle is loud to me, growing up in the south I guess might have something to do with that, "ear".

I wish AOC did go back to the Bronx though and I don't even consider NYC or any of its burroughs part of the legit US; it's a shit hole country if you've ever been and felt the same way I did you know what I'm talking about. Even the rest of the east coast that I saw was way better, like literally the rest of it: right out of the city in non-NYC NY, DC, Bmore, Richmond, SC, GA, FL, all better. SORRY [opinionated]

I hear from tons of people that in the last 5 to 6 years it's way better compared to when I went but I somehow seriously doubt that. That whole city is a disaster and it's unbelievable it exists. NO OFFENSE to any NYC BL'ers. I'm sure y'all are a lovely crowd. <3

I felt the rest of his tweet was very racist though but I am trying to keep an open mind to the varying opinions, though a lot of the Trump-supporters sound like racist sympathizers at best...
