An interesting take on life as a 17 YO in today's day & age. Something I found interesting is that aside from the drugs we all grew up with, the preteen dealer in this show has pharmas and RC's. He ends up selling the main character 5-MeO-DiPT after offering up several other substances with alpha numeric names I couldn't discern. Distributors pushing Fent on dealers, social media, violence, drama, looks like it might be going somewhere. Sundays @10 -(you know, an hour later than the best show in history was on, GoT.)

"Following a group of high school students as they navigate love and friendships in a world of drugs, sex, trauma and social media, the series will be executive produced by Drake, along with manager Future the Prince. The ensemble cast includes: actor and singer Zendaya, Maude Apatow (Girls), Angus Cloud, Eric Dane, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi, Barbie Ferreira, Nika King, Storm Reid, Hunter Schafer, Algee Smith and Sydney Sweeney (Sharp Objects). Thank you for making this thread! I LOVE this show so far. I immediately identified with Zendaya's character, Rue. We share the same mental issues.
I was laughing as the psychiatrist was going through the list of disorders, "Rue suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder, attention deficit disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and possibly bipolar disorder." I was like yep, this is right up my alley! haha
As Rue narrates, she explains she hadn't been abused and hasn't suffered any traumas so how did this happen?

Rue has been medicated since 7 or 8 years old. She explained to her drug dealer friend that having liquid Xanax administered to her in the hospital after a panic attack was the first time she ever felt normal, it silenced all the noise in her mind. It was the feeling she had been looking for her entire life.

Her character goes to rehab while still in high school. She comes out of rehab and goes straight back to drugs. She never planned on quitting.

There's a young white kid who looks 10 years old and talks like a thug who sells her drugs. I got a kick out of that, it's funny. He lists all the RCs and the new trendy drugs available. I thought about this place and figured others here would be interested in checking this show out.

It's a trip! It's about the lives of these teenagers who go to the same high school, but I'm mostly interested in Rue's character. I like Jules too. I was wondering what Jules kept injecting into her thigh. It was hormones that help her transition. I had no idea Jules is transgender until I read an article after the first episode. Hunter Schafer plays Jules. Hunter Schafer is a transgender model.

The show is shot in such a cool way, it's gorgeous to look at. Can't wait to see how the rest of the story unfolds.

Good to see you here CTC, we have 'Succession' coming up in August too. :- )

Yeah, I have to agree with most everything you said. I had no idea about Jules either, aside from the Progesterone(?) scene in the beginning, but I have a feeling that will be a big reveal later in the show along with her extended storyline.

Wasn't that kid, the younger brother of the main dealer, a trip? It reflected the age we're in when he rattled off a few RC's then sold her 5MeoDiPT "Foxy Methoxy". The rotating room effect was fitting.
Though when Rue was bullied by "Mouse", the supplier, it also reflected the new age we're in. Not that people like that haven't been around for ages, but with Fent the game has changed.

I can't wait to see what Sam Levinson has in store for us this season and I hope this series continues for some time. Being Barry Levinson's son, the apple didn't fall far from the tree. I'm going to watch last nights episode on my DVR tonight.

I watched the first episode, at first it seemed like it could've been better, to be honest with you guys it just seems like a 2019 edition of highschool musical and the singing swaped with doing drugs.

I think it's just hbo's attempt to be like some say "edgy". to appeal to the youth, but I think that they already crossed lots of barriers and there is no reason for it

Yes, Succession! :)

The drug dealer forcing the fent on Rue was pretty messed up. Just a tiny bit too much and she would've been a goner.

I enjoyed the latest episode. Kat is really coming into her own. Her transformation is fun to watch.
Rue and Jules have a beautiful friendship.
I'm really hoping Jules isn't getting set up by "Tyler". That situation is making me nervous.

My friend would agree with you, he didn't like it when he watched the first episode. I also know that I relate to certain experiences in the show that he could never relate to.

This show is interesting to me and it feels very relevant to the times we're in. I'm just thankful that when I was in high school, social media didn't exist and every one wasn't filming every damn thing you do and shaming you for it. What a nightmare these kids are in now.

I am watching the second episode now, the thing is it is too clicheic with american footbal players, cheerleaders etc in my opinion they could've achieved something unique but it became a cliche. maybe this is so so common, I am not coming from an american environment but I will give it a chance

I am gonna watch the whole 3 and decide, the visuals are nice, sometimes the whole neon-esque theme feels weird but most of the colors are nice.

I am 22 but I don't really see the world like this

another thing I want to add is related to their view on drugs as being cool, I admit at the beginning of doing drugs, it seems glamorous but the more you slip into them the more non-glamorous they seem, they present some darker parts of it indeed, but still in a way to seem glamorous, for example like some mafia movies where they make them seem glamorous although they are psychophats killing people

I thought the cheerleading scene when they were dancing was hot. haha So I couldn't complain about that. Yeah, watch the 3rd one before you make a final decision. Every episode seems to give more background about each character. The 3rd one was mostly about Kat empowering herself and I really liked it. I think the 4th episode will be more about Jules and I want to see that too.

Well...I will say that the show could possibly be a trigger when you see Rue snorting everything under the sun in the first episode. They also make sure to show the serious consequences of drug use like when Rue OD'd in her room and her lil' sister found her. Rue almost died. You can see the impact it had on her sister and mom. That's another experience I relate to.

Rue has certain enablers in her life. Just like in real life, addicts have enablers...it can be their parents or friends. When the addiction takes over, it's easier to manipulate the ones you love into giving you what you want. I think Rue's behavior is spot on, it's ugly, but it's what happens when addiction takes over. Look at how the third episode ends, there's some much needed tough love given to Rue.

I TOTALLY did not know Jules is transitioning or using hormones or that the actor that plays her is transgender.

THANKS!

(well, maybe you could have ruined it for us as it is probably coming out later (oh wait, that's a pun on "coming out"!) but I'm cool with it.

Did you hear Rue's quote from the last episode where she said something like: "drugs are cool...actually, they're really aren't, in fact, they are really a very short window of cool" and then there was a short montage of her being put in an ambulance after her coma and other bad drug related shit happening?

I think you are personally jumping the gun too quickly on deciding not to like the show.

I mean, you and everyone else are entitled to their opinions, but I personally try not to make immediate judgments.

Scratch that, I usually start off like "this or that is AMAZING!!" and I'm more into loving everything I watch or her or whatever...but yeah, I don't think the show is really glamorizing drugs, especially now with her going to NA and the character she just met telling her that she probably ruined her younger sister's life and that she shouldn't be going to NA high.

Naw...it's not gonna be all about glamorizing drugs, I can tell so far.

I watched all the 3 episodes now, it's just not for me so don't jump on me. I don't say that the show is shit, just I expected something else, but I am sure there are people very into this show, especially high schoolers.

I respect your opinion, it's just not for you. My friend agrees with you so you're not alone.

We see in the first episode that Jules is injecting herself, it happens to be hormones. I'm not giving anything away. She's on Grindr or some gay dating app finding dudes to have sex with. Have you seen episode 3 yet? Jules is falling for "Tyler" and he asks her "So when did you start transitioning?"

I'm nervous about this Tyler situation. I'm hoping Nate isn't setting Jules up as payback for the kitchen incident in the 1st episode. He can be pretty scary, but I think he has bisexual tendencies.
The guy who plays Nate is either an Aussie or a Brit in real life. I saw an interview with him and he has a sexy accent.

The Skype session with Kat and baby dick will give me nightmares for a while.

Hey man I don't care if you don't like it.

I'm not a high schooler though ;)

I missed that she was on grinder and just thought she was looking for guys cause she's a chick lol.

I'm the worst show/movie detective EVER and all kinds of things go over my head when I watch movies or TV hahaha.

Now I wonder, since Rue seems to like Jules cause she kissed him (or her?) whether she's gay or bi or whatever.

I didn't hear Tyler ask about her transitioning either, must not have been paying enough attention.

Wait, which guy is Nate again? (see...I'm clueless lol...is that her dealer?)

Wasn't Tyler the one who had the kitchen incident with Jules?

Yeah, this show shows more dick than any show I've ever seen LOL.

I mean, I'm comfortable with my sexuality and can handle it, but it's a surprise...I guess it's impressive in a weird way that the shows' producers are so willing to do that?

I mean they are showing a lot of nudity of women too in general.

Definitely racy.

Nate is the guy from the football team, which was in the kitchen, also he pretends to be tyler, so they are the same person. her dealer is that fezco lezco i don't remember

^ Welcome to pay channels on cable in 2019, esp HBO, Showtime :) Yeah I thought GoT was a bit sausage-y, but I think this might top it, already. I'm not the best detective either but that just makes it better when you re watch it and catch something.

Anyway I'm getting caught up and farther into the story line, and have a lot of the same questions & opinions you guys do, with respect to Morpheus, but being adults we can disagree constructively. :- )

It seems like Fezco, is more of a pharma, ecstasy, just lighter drug dealer than H cut with Fent type pusher, as the scene with the supplier scamming Rue sorta illustrated.
~(mouse to half passed out Rue)) "You want a couple patches too? That'll be $300.. You gonna pay for her? (saying to Fezco, ) Now it's $600"~ That resonated with me and a couple experiences I've had. It's not worth shooting anyone over a few hundred $'s though.

and wondered what that RC they mentioned was
I had to look it up... he offered "2C-T-2, 2C-T-7, and 5-MeO-DiPT." Cool!

I remembered the Foxy Methoxy, but SJB did the real detective work. All of those are substituted phenethylamines 1562222477652.png or ecstasy type, empathogens/ entactogens created by a great man.

They are part of the "Magic Half Dozen",, DOM, 2C-B, 2C-E, 2C-T-2 and 2C-T-7. considered to be the most important of Alexander "Sasha" Shulgin's developments. Mescaline makes 6, but that one is nature's doing.
He's the father or reserector of some of the best drugs on earth and should be exalted with the likes of K.W. Bentley. It was Anton Köllisch who first synthed MDMA in 1912, but Shulgin gave MDMA a family of relatives. ?‍?‍?‍? ?

Okay, coming back down to earth now.

-------
So I'm interested in finding out more about Jules, does that motel room scene in the beginning tie into grinder? And wasn't the older guy, Cal, the dad of Nate? 1562227764208.png That's a bit creepy in itself.. Jules with Mr Jacobs

I'm nervous about this Tyler situation. I'm hoping Nate isn't setting Jules up as payback for the kitchen incident in the 1st episode. He can be pretty scary, but I think he has bisexual tendencies.
When Nate went after the swimming pool guy that got with Maddy, it showed his psychopathic issues and jealousy hangups. I think there's plenty more where that came from and it's a little unsettling, which is where Tyler comes in.

They might just be scratching the surface with Nate's darker issues and his need for unrelenting payback for any sleight against him. His dad Cal is already creepy and he raised quite the son.

The Skype session with Kat and baby dick will give me nightmares for a while.

Okay, I'm not even going to go there. I'm just going to let this one lie and try to put it out of my head. "Tell me how small I am, tell me I'm bad", blarph. ? ?

Nate is the guy from the football team, which was in the kitchen, also he pretends to be tyler, so they are the same person. her dealer is that fezco lezco i don't remember

Yeah, you got it right. Nate is the guy with anger, jealousy, revenge, etc issues. 1562227190829.png Fezco is the dealer with a good side it seems...1562227339166.png and Ashtray his bro I think.. 1562227480803.png

Little bro Ashtray has the teardrop tat already like an OG, lol. He made the first episode stand out as far as the drugs and 2019 culture, what's changed and what hasn't.

Good to see you're still giving it a shot MP :- )
